"Come Home to Cleveland" - poster/postcard competition!
^I think the latter makes more sense. Selling urban living to those not already somewhat inclined toward it is its own monumental campaign, especially if it's geared toward suburbanites within the region. It'd be hard to entice people who think they already know what's right and wrong with Cleveland. Just my two cents, anyway. (Speaking as an outsider.) X, I like your thought of MayDay's design as a stand-alone brochure with more on the back. That way you can get a bit more information (I know I'd want to see more if I came across it) without ruining the nice catchy design on the front.

Let us acknowledge the forum's January birthdays
When I did a "Happy Birthday grasscat" thread last month, I belive I did promise to not leave anyone behind, so now let us be aware of those forumers who have had or will have a brithday this month (of those who entered their birthdate in their profile, that is). Jan. 1 - J. Star Jan. 3 - Baltimore_and_Ohio Jan. 12 - SarahBeth (Where has she been? Last active in August!) Jan. 14 - inkaelin (Ranking as the forum's oldest member, at the age of 230 ) Jan. 21 - YSOH Jan. 22 - eJacqui; The Last Don Jan. 25 - andrewkbrown Jan. 29 - Clevelumbus Jan. 31 - WalkerEvans All twenty-somethings, except ink, who is apparently older than Ohio itself. To all these people, happy Incremental Increase of Age day! Warm thoughts for you...

Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
I like that. At least in that drawing, it's more subtle and pleasing to look at than the convention center with its big panels that are meant to be seen from miles away. As long as this one is classy enough and well-integrated such that it's not just a tacky billboard, I think it would be nice. (It'd make a great postcard shot, too, with the fountain in the foreground. You wouldn't even have to label the photo!) I hope the trees are not accurate in the drawing, because that does look too forested.

Ohio Housing Density
I was at that site but somehow missed that page where this map is. Thanks for that link!

Ohio Housing Density
While highway development is evident in parts of this map, I think that's not really what's going on in the I-75 corridor north of Dayton. The development there is really following the Miami River, not the highway. In other words, it's the same pattern that's awlays been there. The gap after Sidney is where the river turns toward the east a bit, and between there and Lima there is no linear pattern to speak of (which, if there were one, would be attributable to the highway). Now, obviously the highway has contributed to the growth of these places, but the only area along there that seems to exhibit clearly linear highway-related development is between Vandalia and Troy, including Tipp City.

^ Ah, perhaps that also explains why you're giving grasscat some competition in posting lots articles here. He'd better watch out!

Ohio Housing Density
I've found the web pages for Hammer (in Rural Sociology) and Radeloff (in some forest thing). They and others have some paper on housing density in the Midwest (which I don't feel like reading right now), but scanning through that and looking at the maps shows it includes everything BUT Ohio! :x So what did they do with this Ohio map, and why did they make it? Intriguing... Well, here's that paper in any case (PDF): http://www.drs.wisc.edu/hammer/research/documents/Hammer_LUP_2004.pdf

Ohio Housing Density
That is really cool! Where did you find it? It would be interesting to see a different classification with the highest class being smaller. As it is, some places with regular suburban density are showing up dark red just like the densest urban areas. I see it was made by people here at UW-Madison, but whoever they are, they're not in Geography. Bah!

Gotta go with the "what time is it" slogan. Nothing says Indiana like a confused glance at a clock.

Your city's 'best' 12 stories or under building?
This is biased, what with it being the home of my department, but for Madison I am going to nominate Science Hall. My pictures don't do it justice, but I just love how imposing this building is as you walk toward the University of Wisconsin campus down Langdon Street. The building is right at the end of that street- quite a terminating vista! Built in 1887, I believe, after the original Science Hall burned down. This one was supposed to be fireproof, and it sure looks it! It stands out form a distance, too.

Ohio in literature
^ I think I looked at that book when I was doing a paper on the Xenia tornado for a weather class a couple years ago. Didn't read anything except the Xenia section, though. Perhaps I should have! Thanks to all for the recommendations and links so far! I'll have to check some of them out sometime.

This thread's been inactive for over a month. Is everyone depressed by winter? However you feel about it, here are a few wintry scenes from the other day. Frozen wasteland! Close-up (cropped at 100%) of some snow
