If you look at that temperature in kelvins, it doesn't seem so very different from Ohio.

Metro Cincinnati: Road & Highway News
I was going to come in here and say something similar. Why in the world would someone build a bridge like this without anticipating future highway widening??

columbus affirms smoke ban
I saw on the news the other night a report about a bar owner who is conspicuously (obviously, since it attracted news coverage) flouting the ban and collecting donations to pay the fines he expects to incur. He was doing pretty well with his collections, but I wouldn't expect that to last forever. (I have nothing substantive to add to this discussion; I just thought the story was kinda interesting.)

Cincinnati: Brent Spence Bridge
I think they mean just a regular road bridge, not a highway.

Small-town Indiana - Noblesville, February 5, 2005
Another "nice courthouse" post here. And a good-looking town overall, too.

Where do you live?
^ My suburban experience has been remarkably similar. Even tonight, in fact, there will be a neighborhood progressive dinner in which everyone will get together. For the most part, neighbors know one another and are friendly with one another. Of course, true to suburban nature, when we have a neighborhood function some people will actually drive to the house where it's being held! (A maximum distance of about 1/3 mile) The exception for me was when I lived in Hawaii. For some reason there was no neighborliness where we lived.

Where do you live?
While I don't necessarily agree that suburbs have more to options for kids, I don't see that there is any big advantage to a city for kids, at least in terms of what they want. What's actually good for them may be a different story- as already mentioned, the lack of diversity can be a Bad Thing™. And, of course, kids often can't do a whole lot on their own without being driven somewhere. I have lived in suburbia all my life, and as child I never felt like I was missing out on much. At present I don't have much dislike for life in the suburbs as I have experienced it, but I don't feel particularly devoted to it either. The one thing that is starting to annoy me the most is having to drive everywhere; I've never lived within walking distance of anything but other houses and, in Hawaii, a recreation center (not counting my current college years, in which I can walk to some stuff). The more far-flung sprawl is beginning to aggravate me, too. I am prepared to raze everything in southern Delaware County and force all the residents there into Columbus. I find most of that area very unpleasant to be in.

University of Cincinnati Quad - WTF?
Yay, wacky! Thanks for showing... I was at UC exactly once, probably five years ago, and I remember very little of what it looks like.

Cincinnati - Prospect Hill
Wow, that's a nice-looking place!

Dayton: Downtown: Arcade District
^ Good idea! Let's see, with 202 members here, that's only about $29,703 each. I'll go see if I can dig enough change out of the couch... (Edit- Cool, I think I just made post number 20,000 here. What do I win?)

Dayton: Downtown: Arcade District
The Dayton Daily News website has some good pictures that accompanied the article. I was just going to post a link to them because they included captions and so forth, but the site requires registration, which I consider a pain. So I'll just post some of them, omitting most of the captions. "Holiday lights hang in the Arcade rotunda, left over from the last time the public area was used." There's also this illustration.

Warren County growth
That's not enough! We need more highways! Here's my proposal.

Dayton: Downtown: Arcade District
From the Dayton Daily News. Let's hope it doesn't come to that... Owner sees no future for Arcade Complex on market, but little interest, he says; demolition considered By Shannon Joyce Neal and Jim Bebbington DAYTON | The owner of the historic downtown Dayton Arcade confirmed Friday he has put the five-building complex up for sale for $6 million and will apply for a permit to demolish it. Anthony F. Staub, president of Brownfield Charities Inc. and owner of the Arcade, said the building is draining his resources and he's frustrated by the lack of financial support for its redevelopment. "It's just too much for me right now," Staub said. "Nobody seems to want to cut loose with any money, and my bills are piling up." ... http://www.daytondailynews.com/

Where do you live?
Yes, I know there is a place for "location" in everyone's profile, but that's not what I mean. What I seek is a description of the setting, the type of housing, or whatever. For example: When I am not living in a dorm in the center of Delaware, Ohio, I live in a big house on a cul-de-sac in suburbia. My house was built in 1991, and the street itself is perhaps two years older. If I were to attempt walking beyond my own street, I would surely be run over by several cars. My situation is likely to change later this year when I become a grown-up and move to some place of my own.

Beavercreek: The Greene Town Center
There is another article about this thing in the Dayton Daily News today. It pretty much just says they are near approving the tax increment financing plan and the developers will break ground next month if it's all approved. But I'm mainly posting this because it includes a little rendering of an aerial view.

The Five Ohios
Since it's alphabetical, with a little bit of thought it's sometimes not too hard to figure out numbers I don't instantly recognize. The ones I do recognize right away are: 09 Butler 12 Clark 18 Cuyahoga 21 Delaware 25 Franklin 29 Greene 31 Hamilton 51 Marion 55 Miami 57 Montgomery 83 Warren

What's your avatar?
Mine's a kind of population density map I made that was posted in a thread which grasscat recently bumped (here). But I think I'm going to change it to a picture I took of Dayton.

The Five Ohios
I'm starting to get good at identifying a lot of the numbers, but I still don't know most of them.

Dayton: Heritage Trolley/Streetcars
Interesting, but how would this be much different (functionally) from the trolley buses that already exist? Just pretend you're on rails instead of wheels.

Dayton skyline at night
Here are a few from back in November, assuming pbase is cooperating. The Miami River was a veritable mirror that night. Click the next two to see a larger size. That's all.

Taking the Mead off the Mead Tower in Dayton?
Didn't the logo come off when it became MeadWestvaco? I don't think it was ever replaced, because a quick check of a couple of my own pictures shows no logo currently on it. (You are talking about the top of the tower, right?)

Metro Dayton: Road & Highway News
Findlay St. is not downtown, so it's probably not the bridge you're thinking of. Maybe it's Webster Street that you're thinking of, but there's no good reason to believe me on that.

Around Cincinnati's West Fourth Street Historic District
Very nice! I hate those stupid fire escape things on the front of buildings. Oh well, safety first I guess. What are the boundaries of this historic district?
