Ohio Random Graphics & Maps
They're in the same MSA; it's just that the map ColDay posted doesn't include Kentucky. MSAs have changed from those shown on the map, though. Springfield (Clark County), for example, is now a separate MSA from Dayton, though they're together in a broader CSA. And maybe Preble County was added to Dayton? I think they may have changed the way MSAs are defined. It was a couple of years after the last census.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine, Part II
Quite nice! Little one-story buildings as in #26 always seem so weird.

Urban Ohio "Picture Of The Day"
^ And to contrast with that summer image, here's a fair depiction from today of how this winter has been in Madison. By the middle of February we've already set a new record for the season snowfall total. The slushy stuff in the foreground here had a fascinating look to it.

Greene County: Fairborn, Yellow Springs, Cedarville, Jamestown, and Bellbrook
He was slaughtered but carries on in the form of delicious bacon. No, I'm still here, mostly just skimming the forum and rarely posting, but still visiting every day. I've just become too distracted by other things to keep up anymore, especially not being in Ohio these days. Hey, thanks for the bump, Columbusite! Now I just need to fill this in with the county's remaining big cities (apart from Xenia and Beavercreek): Spring Valley, part of Clifton, and Bowersville. They have a combined population over of 1000!

Ohio Random Graphics & Maps
Random maps- these I have. Here are a couple I have posted over the years. U clickz on dem 4 teh big verzhuns. A population density map styled to look like one of those night lights pictures. Inter-county commuting patterns, probably from the 2000 census, but I forget at this point. I may have made a nicer version of this, but honestly I forget that too.

Plain City, Ohio
I used to drive through Plain City somewhat regularly on the Beavercreek-Delaware route, but always took a shortcut that avoided the main intersection and thus many of the buildings pictured here. Thanks for posting!

The *New* UrbanOhio - SUGGESTIONS
I also think there is too much intro, but I'd much rather see it shortened than eliminated entirely, and not so that there can be more dynamic content, but so that everything can fit "above the fold" (to carry on with KOOW's newspaper terminology). I'm thinking from the perspective of a first-time visitor, and in that regard the bottom line for me is that when I visit a site I want to be able to figure out just what the hell it is within 10 or 15 seconds. Front pages cluttered with links and with no explanation of the site's subject or purpose do not tend to captivate me. Heavy emphasis on the dynamic content caters to us regulars without enticing n00bs. So, my USD 0.02: Brief introductory text, a picture or slideshow, easily-located links to the photo pages (the existence of these, BTW, doesn't seem obvious enough in the current design) and the forum, and short lists of recent posts, news, upcoming events, etc.

ohio wesleyan interns vs nyc housing
Dammit, as the resident Ohio Wesleyan alum, I'm frustrated that in two days I haven't managed to come up with an appropriate joke about this. Therefore it is with a heavy heart that I relinquish my Bachelor of Arts degree along the rights and privileges thereof.

What's your favorite building in Downtown Dayton?
I really don't know why, but that Wright Stop Plaza (does that have an older, quainter name?) seems to top my list, at least when I'm not looking at the unadorned sides of the building.

Web design help & discussion ...
I can give it a shot, at least. Can't make any promises, but if nothing else I can bug my friend for ideas- between the two of us we usually manage to figure things out. But then, usually we're figuring out things that we're being paid for. Maybe send me a PM or something? I don't know if my e-mail address shows up in my profile, but if not and you want to send stuff I'll give it to you.

Cincinnati October & November 2007
Nice- I especially like those evening OTR shots. Forgive me for not keeping up, but what is the construction activity next to Washington Park?

The "Apple Macintosh" Discussion Thread
So, anyone using Leopard yet? I am a new Mac owner, having just purchased a MacBook after my PC laptop's screen died. (I have been regularly using Macs at school for a couple of years, though.) I've probably been too casual a user to know the full extent of updates, but nothing seems wildly different. The new features I most appreciate are Quick Look (or sometimes the iTunes-like "Cover Flow" view in Finder) and Stacks, and perhaps Spaces once I actually get going with lots of stuff. Anyway, new OS X version or not, I love the computer! I also installed Windows with Boot Camp, just for the hell of it, but don't have any particular intentions of using it.

Please help me complete my degree (a short online survey)
Thanks again to all. Is it all right if I give this one or two bumps? It'll probably only go through the rest of this week, so I promise I won't be bothering you all with this thread for very long.

Dayton, Ohio: Seat of Montgomery County
Eh, Dayton's all right, I guess. Which is the bridge they're working on in the fourth picture?

Please help me complete my degree (a short online survey)
Thanks everyone so far! At some point in writing my thesis I'll make some composite maps showing how people's responses differed between the map types (for each map location you see, the type of map you got is random) and will post them here. Hayward, if you still care, don't bother to restart- it didn't log your info but it wouldn't be an exact repeat if you started again. Thanks for the effort, though!

Please help me complete my degree (a short online survey)
I've got enough results now and have removed the survey. Will report back on this at some point. Thanks to all! Hiya folks. I've been doing all I can to delay completing my master's degree in cartography, but the time has come to try to get this crap over with. My "research" (cartography is really junk science sometimes) aims to assess in what ways aerial photos, such as those in Google Maps, can actually be useful as maps in online settings, as opposed to just something cool to look at. The means by which I am doing this is something of a user test in which I have people perform short tasks on different map types. Part of this is done entirely online to (I hope) generate a fair amount of data in addition to some more detailed surveying I'll do with smaller groups. Anyway, I'm looking for a population comprising regular users of online maps, and I think most UrbanOhioans qualify. So please, I beg of you, if you have 15 minutes (max) to spare, help me out by completing my survey. Maybe some day I'll give you a cookie in return. The good kind, not the internet kind. I know this isn't a good sampling method, but like I said, it's kind of junk science anyway. Thanks ever so much!

Some Madison 'hood or other
Thanks guys. DJ, the colors generally turn out nicely from my camera to begin with (no special settings or anything), but I did do a bit of Photoshop enhancement. RV, yes I think we probably did drive through there. Good memory!

Some Madison 'hood or other
It's been well over a year since I last took a camera and hit the streets in this town, but the other day I finally got to a neighborhood that's been on my list forever. It's called Schenk-Atwood, at least officially, and it's one of the main east side neighborhoods in Madison. The commercial district actually didn't seem nearly as cool when walking around on a hot Sunday afternoon as it always seemed when driving through. I guess there's really just one lively block, which is probably the only block I'd actually seen on foot before. Anyway, whatever. These are not very exciting, but here they are anyway. Barrymore Theatre, etc. This would be the more lively block mentioned above. Heading west from there. As you can see there are some new buildings among the older ones. This vicinity is called Schenk's Corners, named for some dude. Same Pepsi and Mountain Dew? Color TV? This must be the most popular place in town! Taco Palace! Gotta try that one of these days... More new stuff. Now I'm east of where I started. An icon shop, apparently. I used to always see this church above the treetops from my previous apartment, and always meant to go take a photo of it. Whatevs. This I find fascinating. Back to about where I began. And here we are. There's the top of the Barrymore again. Uh, yeah.

Dayton Skyline Time, Suckers!
^ Hey, thanks! Yes, that is my picture too. ForeverGlow, I think I'd agree with you on the angle you said is best (your photo from the highway ramp). If only there were an easy way to get a picture of it, or at least have a moment to enjoy the view!

Dayton Skyline Time, Suckers!
It's nothing unusual, but I'm a fan of the spot in the first set of monte's pictures in the linked thread, just across the river or on the Riverside Drive bridge.

mrnyc crosses the delaware
It used to say "I love my country but hate the government." (Must have been one of those radical OWU students!) Whoever cleaned it up opted to leave the first half. Thanks for the pictures!

beavercreeke: thee greene
It was sad earlier this summer when I ended up going there three different times in one day.
