  1. Guys I moved from NY a month ago. I have traveled to a ton of American cities in my career. Cincy is a GREAT downtown and has a lot of asvantages to it. As I have said for a while, the problem w/ Cincy are a certain portion of Cincinnatians.
  2. I think both parties are relieved too.
  3. Is he really missing?
  4. So guys, not to trivialize murders but what was the number for Cincy in january? My count is 3 but I may be off.
  5. I'm an NYC guy and I like Cleveland. Much better than several American cities. That being said, I like Cincy more.
  6. The key will be for private money investors to fill in the balanks where 3cDC doesn't fill. When private money starts buying/redoing some of these buildings, you will really see the neighborhood take off.
  7. best ribs in the Cincy area are from walts Hitching Post in Northern Kentucky.
  8. A book store would be ideal but like you said, you need a bigger space.
  9. It is tremendous that people seem to be rediscoveing downtown. I will be moving to Cincy next week from NY and am looking forward to exploring the new scene. As many here have stated, I think Cincy's biggest problem is the long-time residents who have such a negative attitude regarding their city. They tell me that "Cincy is unsafe" and "its not what it used to be, don't go down there". Are these people crazy or just unbelievably sheltered? First of all, its not what it used to be but I guess they are completely oblivious to the positive changes that have gone on down there the last few years. As for the safety, I guess its not as safe as Mason but geez, its a big city isn't it? 55 murders for the entire year doesn't seem like its that unsafe to me but hey, what do I know. I am a native NYer and have been around a few times so maybe I have a different perspetive but some Cincinnatians (people that have never left mostly) have to wake up IMO. I will be a downtown regular and I will try and spread the word as much as I can.
  10. Great article. This combined w/ the streetcar will transform the city.
  11. Thx. I know they had set a target date for finishing by the end of the year. is that still possible?
  12. Anyone know how this project is progressing?
  13. what exact block are pictures 9-12?
  14. nice pics. gotta say though, can't wait for Milan. An underrated city IMO.
  15. ronnie, i agree and to be honest midsize areas in Europe have a large degree of provinviality as well (probably moreso than the US). I guess I was spoiled in NY b/c the area attratcs so many people from all over the world. It isn't even the provinciality that bothers me b/c like we have agreed, that exists all over; its more the self defeatist attitude.
  16. 1221, I will be moving within the month and a NY native. My wife who is from Cincy keeps telling me I will be good for the city b/c she agrees with your opinion on the locals. Sometimes I think they need to wake up into reality...many of them live in their own miserable/provincial world.

I don't think it wouls be viable. I don't see enough events being held there to have an impact on the local economy. Add 41+ NBA games and that is a different story. Like people have said, i think its a moot point unless Cincy gets an NBA or NHL team. I don't see the UC secenario materializing although they certainly are running out of space.
  18. As a life long Nyer who is shortly moving to Cincy, I always wondered why so many Cincinnatian's disliked their own city and had such a whoa is me attitude. I'm sure there are several reasons but the Enquirer is a big reason, IMO. What a joke of a newspaper. Thank god I'll be able to get the Sunday NY Times delivered and I can read the NY post online :).

Love the talk on Broadway Commons guys. Some dfeeinite potential there whether it begins next year or 5 years from now. Here is my take on some of the ideas here: 1) Arena: As I said great idea that could be an economic boon for the city neighbhorhood and also help the riverfront by tearing down that eyeSORE of US BANK. I just don't see it happening though. Arenas are several hundred million and unless there is a pro sports team playing there, I put the odds of this at slim to none. Hope I'm wrong. 2) Greenspace/city park - Am a huge fan of urban parks and greenspaces buth with the new riverfront park and Eden park not too far away, not sure there is a need here. I think it would have a better chance of happening than an arena but not sure I see a huge need. 3) transit Hub - This idea seems strange to me, especially at that location. As far as busses go, you alrady got the hub at governer's square and under the Freedom Center. I don't see the streetcars really needing a "hub" perse' so unless a light rail/commuter line was to be added, I just don't get this idea. 4) Mixed resedential/commercial/retail/ entertainment- Cincy will not need another one after the banks. Enough said!! 5) Sports/Recreation Complex - I really like this idea the most. A real state of the art complex with fitness center (to include indoor track, beach volleyball, climbing wall etc), indoor/outdoor tennis, indoor-outdoor hoops center, swimming pool (retractable roof)softball field, soccer/football field. Like I said earlier, this would do wonders to attract potential residents o downtown/OTR and improve quality of life. Kids camps, sports leagues, various classes... IMO it really fills a need. I don't think it has to be a "wow" like the Banks but there will certainly be enough there to really make it great.

You are probably correct. But I guess that raises the question in my head which is better for that space, value added to homeowners with a service related facility or the overall economic stimulus of a concert/sports venue? I do not know. I think a recreation/sports complex could increase residential demand downtown and OTR and if you have city-wide leagues using it i.e. recreational hoops, softball etc etc, it gets more and more people alloverthe city coming downtown.

redmond, I don't think you could ever justify the cost unless a winter sports team played there but ideally, it would be a great idea. JMHO. The more I think about it, though, the more I feel the sports/recreation complex would be a great and feasible plan. I don't think it would have to be private though i.e. you have to pay for membership. You can have various membership tiers depending on what the indicidual wants. I think the sports leagues could play many of their games there. Overall, I think a project like this would go a long way to improving quality of life downtown and Over the Rhine. Think about it...makes the prospect of buying a place in OTR that much better.

Could be similar to the Chelsea Piers proejct in NYC, which has been a huge success. Includes a place called basketball City(5 courts/lockers etc), indoor soccer fields, batting cages, golf range (hotting balls into the Hudson), a very deluxe gym, a few restaurants. In Ny it really improved the quality of life but obviously its much easier for downtown Cincy residents to leave the city and do all these things than it was for Manhattanites to leave and find all these activities. Still, I think this is a very solid idea. I actually agree w/ Redmond 100%. A multi-purpose arena would be absolutely perfect there and would allow probably most importantly, would allow for the destruction of US BANK arena. Right now, it is an eyesore on the riverfront and really of a waste of space. Unfortunately I don't see this happening unless Cincy got an NBA or NHL team.
  23. I honestly believe that everyone involved is working to prevent this from happening, and that this person has no concept of what is proposed. However, if the renderings above are any indication, there is nothing unique about the project whatsoever. I think that bloger from Loveland has a legit point, not just for Cincy and the Banks but for the entire US. Urban developments in typical American cities have left little to be desired. Lets hope they get the Banks right. I know many people disagree with me but I still think one thing that gets Americans out and about is shopping and I think some upper-end/uinique retail could do very well. JMO.
  24. That is pretty direct. It may be a good idea to make the the sixt street overpass over I71 more pedestrian friendly. Right now it still seems like a pseudo highway. Maybe putting some red lights, speed bumps and maybe landscape it up w/ some greenery would make it feel more like a pedestrian walkway. Labeling it better may work as well.
  25. What happened?
