Dayton: Restaurant News & Info
I drove by there the other day and thought I saw a for sale sign, but I just figured it was for one of the other nearby businesses. I hadn't been there in years, but I've always heard good things about the place and thought it was about time to go back. Oh well, guess not.

Sadly, if they were straight out of the 50's, most would be much more vibrant and active.

I'm really not sure what to think about Shelby... I don't think I would have guessed that the population was about 10,000.

Ashtabula: General Business & Economic News
Wow, for some reason I always envisioned Ashtabula as a relative pleasant place on Lake Erie. That's certainly not the picture that the article paints, which just makes me want to check the place out even more.

Findlay: Random Development and News
Findlay, Ohio - February 2008 County seat of Hancock County. The population was 38,967 at the 2000 census. It is home to The University of Findlay. The city's official nickname is "Flag City, USA". Findlay is the headquarters of the Cooper Tire & Rubber Company, founded in 1914. Findlay was also the longtime headquarters of the Marathon Oil Corporation, from 1905 until 1990. Marathon is now based in Houston, Texas, but still maintains operations in Findlay under an organized subsidiary, the Marathon Petroleum Company. Downtown has suffered major flooding in August 2007 and February 2008. Source: Wikipedia

Snow Day - West Central Neighborhood (Fort Wayne)
Wow, your neighborhood always looks beautiful, but it looks simply stunning with a fresh coat of snow. And the snow on the trees is really one of my favorite forms of beauty in nature. Thanks for braving the cold and sharing your photos with us! Well worth the effort.

Cincinnati: Urban Grocery Stores
^ Just for reference, here is a pic of the grocery store in Indy while it was still an O'Malia's. I can't imagine how hideous it must have looked with that aqua siding, but now looks great in the neighborhood. But the real question is how is the store able to stay open without acres and acres of parking in front of it?

Ohio & National Intercity Bus Discussion
Grrrr... MegaBus already goes right past Dayton on one of their Columbus routes. What will it take to get them to just add a stop? I don't care if it is at the airport or some shopping center right off of I-70 in Huber Heights/Vandalia/Englewood/Trotwood, it seems like there should be some sort of easy way to add a stop in the Dayton area that isn't out of the way and doesn't take too much time.

Sanibel Island, Florida
With all the snow and ice, here are some pictures from a couple of weeks ago from my trip to Sanibel to help you with some nice, warm thoughts. Sanibel Island, Florida Sanibel Island is an island located on the Gulf coast of Florida, just offshore of Fort Myers. The city of Sanibel incorporates the entire island, with most of the town proper at the east end of the island. After the causeway was built to replace the ferry in May 1963 the residents fought back against overdevelopment by incorporating the island as a city in 1974. A new, higher bridge without a bascule (drawbridge) having to open for tall boats and sailboats, was completed in late 2007. The 1963 bridge was broken up and dumped offshore to create an artificial reef. The lighthouse was requested by islanders in 1833, commissioned in 1877, and built in 1884. First lit in August 1884, and manned until 1949. Now, fully automatic, the light shines on to this day. Here's our wonderful little island motel You can easily get everywhere on the island with a moped and its way more fun than taking a car places on the island The island is home to many birds, especially in the winter. The J. N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge is a 5,200 acre refuge located on the island. Sanibel is a barrier island – a collection of sand on the leeward side of the Gulf Stream from the more solid coral-rock of Pine Island. Looking towards Ft. Myers Beach The Gulf side beaches are excellent on both islands, and are world renowned for their variety of seashells, which include coquinas, scallops, whelks, sand dollars, and other deeper-water mollusks, both univalve and bivalve. The Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum is the only museum in the world dedicated to the study of shells.

(Dayton) Benefit for Stivers ...
Looks like an awesome event. Did you happen to make it to the dedication and open house at Stivers a couple of weeks ago, Jeffrey? I'd like to hear someone's opinion on the new additions and renovation. Hopefully it is a great space, because these young adults are incredibly talented and with the recent staff and budget cuts, I'd hate to see these programs suffer. (Not that I think ANY of the schools or programs in DPS should suffer.)

Dayton: Downtown: Development and News
It seems as though in past Hutchins has made big announcments and never come through, so I'm expecting the same with this. Hopefully the owners, Vontz Realty, are committed to doing something with the building, but as along as Hutchins is involved, I'm not really expecting anything to come of this.

Its on MVH's master plan, but I don't think they gave any specific details. I think it was just listed as "future expansion" or something like that.

Yellow Springs
It's nice to see people out and about, even in February. The village itself and the surrounding parks make it such a great place to just get away for a day. John McCain was just at Young's Dairy just a few days ago, getting some ice cream. He must have seen this thread! Nice job, Columbusite.
