It's ludicrous to argue with a straight face that the City has no need to increase it's tax base. It's not a static situation, and you can't simply cut spending in order to address the structural deficit. New revenues are a must.

Press release just came out: existing Mehring Way to close November 1. New Mehring way (with pedestrian access) to open the same day (albeit one lane in each direction).

Is McCormack Baron Salazar doing Mercer Commons? Is that why that slide is in there?

Looking at the roof of the project, they placed a MASSIVE HVAC behemoth up there near the SE section....on stilts. Looks to be the size of a studio apartment. Kind of disappointing that they do not appear to be making a roof deck anywhere up there.

Bike to work? Show of hands?
I drove my car to work today for the first time in probably three months. Only because I have to drive somewhere immediately after work. Fortunately, for biking at least, rain has been indiscernible.

Philly Hack/Shock Writer Rips Cincinnati
It was also meant as something of a not-entirely-serious, joke-type column, however clumsy in its execution. I can only hope it doesn't go viral and result in a bunch of well-meaning yet insecure Cincinnatians over-reacting in an indignant, methinks-thou-doth-protest-too-much huff (see, e.g. "Fair, Vanity").

the shoving match at City Hall was the best. That dude was completely unhinged.

My main takeaway is that the store will stay open until 10. Avril Bleh's hours are silly.

The park renovation should conclude by the end of 2011 with grand opening festivities in the Spring. The streetcar is also optimistically hoping for Q2 of 2012.

comment about the durability of the structure--back in the spring, high winds whipped through the city, and knocked out two grey panels, one in toto, that other partially, on the north facade (maybe 16 or so stories up). There is another panel out on the west facade, just below the south balcony. You have to wonder about the durability of this thing if these panels can be gashed by high winds. I'm still wondering when they are going to get around to repairing them.

Music Hall renovations sound great, although there is no mention of funding because...well....they have a long way to go on that. One other thought, however, they plan to close Music Hall in May 2012 for renovations. That means it will not be used at all for the World Choir Games which are July 2012. This is somewhat surprising. Apparently the other remaining venues, including Aronoff, SCPA, etc.) will be sufficient (although that is an aggressive timeline if they're counting on the Emery being in play).

I seem to recall that the building going in on that corner will have a slightly different style/shape than the main structure. And it will also not be quite so tall, maybe only 2 to 3 stories, and no apartments above.

I prefer west on 12th and a return on Central. The SCPA pick ups/drop offs has been a clusterfu*# (and kind of always will be) but it is something that can be alleviated with proper logistical planning. Since 3CDC is eliminating the parking around Washington Park, it sounds like there's a convenient layover lane for busses lining up Southbound on Race.

Good to see 3CDC working on Race and 14th now. Both Saenger Hall (east side) and the west side of the street. Saenger is a pretty large project. Also the Lackman Bar has had people working there for a while. The bar is beiong constructed. Also was a sign guy measuring windows next to Senate for something...pizza place is going into the old Lucky Step....Tavola Mangia or something like that. Used to do pizza nights at Take the cake. those are your gateway Q tidbits of the day.

they're now doing wood framing in the upstairs as well.

Was this in reference to the one night art show at Lucky Step...? no, but the announcement was delayed. Let's just say the rumor on the street is that Park+Vine is moving to the old kaldi's space. And a pizza place will possibly be taking over a portion of Lucky Step. Further....Moose on Main/Coopers, which will be "MOTR," is in process on getting liquor license transfer (based on what I read in the Courier) and plans to be booking bands for MPMF. Finally...not OTR...but I heard Tiffany's downtown was rumored to be pulling out. Anyone hear that one?
