I refer to them as "frickles" It does seem like an odd combination at first, deep frying pickles, but it works.

Sounds like it will be similar to The Pub at Rookwood.....I hope something can be successful at that location. I have a feeling it might be cursed! Good visibilty, right next to Starbucks, I don't know why places can't stay longer than a couple of month.

Cincinnati: Downtown - The McAlpin
Some information from the developer on The McAlpin: How many units are available? ~30 What percentage have been sold? ~45% What is the status of the other retail spaces?one is occupied. The other two are in negotiations with upscale food and drink venues. I will let you know if I hear of any other updates.

Cincinnati: Downtown - The McAlpin
I promise I will ask the next time I see our sales guy about the retail spaces. I don't believe anyone is living on the 5th or 6th floor, and those units are no where near completion. There is a really awesome model on the 5th floor called the Penthouse that is furnished nicely and faces 4th Street. The rooftop deck is ALMOST complete. The only thing it lacks is the furniture. There is a full kitchen, grill, outdoor fire pit, and fountain. We had some people over for Fireworks and it was BYOC (Bring Your Own Chair). I will update more when I can talk to our sales guy.

Hey I used to live on Court Street and used the free parking from 5PM-8AM every evening! VERY reliable parking, even on ball games days.

Cincinnati: Retail News
I think the owners who I believe still have a child in school are renovating the top floor of one of those buildings they own into a condo to move into eventually. My husband and I stopped by one day to see what they had in terms of electric grills due to the fact we can't have a gas/propane/charcoal grill on the balcony of our condo. Electric grills we decided were glorified George Foremans........Love to see good things on 4th street.

I will try to ask our sales guy tonight what the status is on the other retail spaces....

From the Foodie Blog on Cincinnati.Com.............. Restaurant week is coming... Maybe you've heard about restaurant weeks in other cities. Restaurants unite and offer deals on (usually) prix fixe meals, at a heckuva good price. Well, Cincinnati is getting a Restaurant Week, as Polly reported today: "Greater Cincinnati Independents, a group of local restaurants, will sponsor a Greater Cincinnati Restaurant Week Sept. 4-8. The 25 restaurants in the group will each offer a three-course prix fixe dinner for $25.07. (It's 25 restaurants, and the year is '07.)" So far, these restaurants are participating: Andy's Mediterranean Grille, Behle Street Café, Bella Luna, Brown Dog Café, Daveed's at 934, deSha's American Tavern and Grille, Encore Bistro and Bar, The Grand Café, Hugo, Jean-Robert at Pigall's, Jimmy D's Steakhouse, Kona Bistro, Mesh, Mike & Jimmy's Chophouse Grille, Nicholson's, O'Bryon's Irish Pub, One Restaurant and Lounge, Pho Paris, Polo Grille, Pompilio's, The Pub at Crestview Hills, Red and Universal Grille. We'll post more details as we know them, or you can check out the restaurant group's Web site. Make your reservations today!

Cincinnati: State of Downtown
Are you talking about the one on Peachtree? :) I have a friend who grew up in Atlanta, went to a large university in a small college town and then moved BACK to Atlanta for a job. Granted some people find it appealing. I like to call it "The Dirty South" Growing up in SC, I went to Atlanta a lot and I find Cincinnati so much more appealing. It has charm and history and lots to offer. I don't get the same warm and fuzzy from Atlanta.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Mabley Place (formerly Tower Place Mall)
It seems to work for Newport though, right? The Dewey's for example always seems to be packed with movie goers. I still think we need a theatre in Tower Place.

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
My hubby and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary with dinner at Mortons Sunday night. I wanted to do a review of the new location and the restaurant. This was my first visit to the restaurant, so I can't compare it to the previous, but I have to admit the interior decor is pretty cool. One side of the entire dining room/bar area consists of windows that face Fountain Square and Vine Street. We had requested table #12 as all of the articles about the opening had instructed to do, but it was occupied by another couple celebrating their anniversary. Instead they must have put us at table #13. We were practically sitting above the corner of Vine and 5th Street. Mortons was running a special that I found out from their website where for $99 you could do a dinner for two. Believe me it was plenty of food and we brought home leftovers. The dinner consisted of bread, 2 salads, 2 filets, 2 seafood add-ons, a potato dish to share, a veggie dish to share, and two desserts. I highly recommend if you are interested in checking out the restaurant but are concerned about the cost, this is the way to go! All in all, the restaurant seems to have found itself in its new location and the Sunday night crowd seemed to prove this. By 8PM I would say about 75% of the tables were occupied. Kudos to Mortons for staying downtown and investing in our city.

I heard the Mythos next to Fountain Square is doing a promotional event tomorrow with Q102 where they will be handing out free gyros and diet pepsis from 11:30-2PM. I checked the hours on the door and they will NOT be open on Saturday or Sunday.

I invoke a rule I have about the word "douchebag": If you have never seen or used one, you aren't allowed to call someone that!!! Now teabag is ok......carry on insulting each other!

Cincinnati: Crime & Safety Discussion
Guns don't kill people, people kill people If you don't know how and when to use a gun, you don't deserve to have one. Living downtown, I don't leave my place without pepper spray. I have never had to use it, but it makes me feel safe against aggressive panhandlers, over indulgers after a ballgame, and those up to no good. Call me paranoid, but I think I am cautious.

Email I received from Jeff Ruby's mailing list. Check out the price tag on the event! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I firmly believe that Rudy Giuliani will be the next President of the United States of America. I also believe America will be safer in his hands. That is why I am co-chairing a luncheon in his honor on Thursday, August 9th at my steakhouse in Cincinnati. Mayor Giuliani will be making remarks as well as taking questions from the audience. It will be a great opportunity for you to ask your questions of the next President of the United States of America. Please see attached invitation for further event details. Recent polling shows Mayor Giuliani continues to be in a strong position to win the Republican nomination. A new ABC News/Washington Post poll has the Mayor at 37 percent of the vote; a 21 point lead ahead of his nearest competitor. These encouraging poll numbers further prove that Rudy is in a strong position to win the Republican nomination. Although it is only 5 months till the first primary, absentee ballots can be cast as early as October to be counted in these states. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for your interest. I hope to see you on the 9th! The only time I have been to Einstein Bros. Bagel is in Atlanta, GA. The food reminds me of Bruegger's. Looks like they won't put one downtown if they are wanting a drive through to go along with it. The way Cincinnatians drive though, we can put them in for free!

Top Ten Reasons Why I Dispise Grocery Stores
I am going to preface my comment with I like kids BUT my pet peeve is when the kids are at the salad bar "picking" items off and eating them. I want to scream "where is your mother? Go find your mommy!"

You get one chance with me when it comes to dining. There are too many good restaurants in Cincinnati to give second chances! I have been here a year, and am still trying to get to all of them. I do realize that different chefs can affect the quality of food, but for me bad service in unacceptable. That is the main reason I don't go back to places.

Cincinnati: Restaurant News & Info
If I remember right from what I was reading about the place (I know it is posted here somewhere) Jean Robert felt the bar in the restaurant was too small to accomodate his patrons so he bought the space next door where a jewelery store used to occupy for a bar. I remember him thinking it would be a place to go after dinner, before a show, with some small plates for food. I am not sure about the setup whether you can access the bar from within Pigalls' or if the street would be in the only entrance. I think the timeframe for completion was this fall. Again, I am pulling all of this from memory, so correct me someone if I am wrong.

Some credit needs to be given to Jean Robert because he is willing to invest in this city and proves it is a wise business venture when others run and hide because it is "risky". Hey Riverviewer, in mentioning his restaurants, you forgot the new bar next to Pigalls on 4th street.

Newport, KY: Newport on the Levee: Development and News
Or they can cross the Purple People Bridge to Cincinnati, right? No seriously, I think the area is overdue for a new hotel. :)
