  1. So are we talking about the Uno's downtown across from the Aronoff?
  2. I have to agree about The Greenup Cafe. I hate to say anything negative but my husband and I went for brunch a couple of weeks ago, and we won't go back. We had terrible service, it took 45 minutes to get our food, and we were still hungry when we left. We sat outside at a table on Greenup Street so the atmosphere was nice, but it didn't make up for the other things I mentioned. One more thing, I also think it is ridiculous to pay $8 for a beer at happy hour at JeanRo's Bistro. I am cheering for success in his ventures though! His style is definitely appealing to a certain crowd.
  3. I think it does seem he is taking some risks in this new "bar" and in the restaurant in OTR....but this city will never improve unless we have people like him with deep pockets who believe in the city and will invest.

I felt a need to redeem myself after Jean Schmidt kicked my butt in the marathon.....so today in the Hyde Park Blast which is a 4 miles race, I beat Mrs. Schmidt with a time of 29:50 to her 31:31. I was just feeling good about it until I noticed her age and she is almost 30 years older than me. Way to go Jean! Check out the results at www.hpblast.com and also come to the Block Party tonight at Hyde Park Square.
  5. Being an engineer, do you know how I describe my job as an automation controls engineer? See the quote below: "You know how Homer Simpson goes into work and puts his feet up and everything just happens? I make it all happpen."
  6. I just remember how much Monte hated country in general, so he was not too excited about The Cadillac Ranch, but a mechanical bull? How can that not be fun?
  7. Sully's had a similar opening as The Lodge Bar and Cadillac Ranch in terms of a large number of crowds. Anyone been to Sully's lately? Are the crowds sustaining? I don't want the same group of people to move bar location everytime one opens up. I think their are enough people downtown to support these businesses, but I worry too much too soon sometimes. Hey Montecarlos, you know what would make my day? To see you at Cadillac Ranch on that mechanical bull? :)
  8. If the police horses can do their business in the middle of the street, AND not have to pick it up, I can't see why anyone would make a big deal about dogs on the square. Unless the Square is afraid it might become liable if someone is bitten by another person's dog. (People always go after the deep pockets, right?)
  9. Check Craigslist for ATL.
  10. Good Reply PhattiNati. I hope people give this place a chance before they go throw up about it. ANY busineses that wants to invest in our downtown should be commended not criticized. It will be appealing to someone who lives in the area.
  11. Just the fact it has an outdoor seating area is a BIG plus. I heard a mechanical bull, too. Yee Haw!
  12. See, I disagree. I believe that some people need the familiarity of a chain to visit or live in an area. I mix of both I think would be good. I think if a Starbucks came to the area, regardless of your opinion of the company, the area will then have "made" it. The marketing department of Starbucks does extensive research to determine whether their stores would be appropriate in an up and coming area. If they bought into the OTR redevelopment idea, I see it being a positive thing.
  13. Next to the Westin on Vine street directly across from JeanRo there looks to be a new restaurant under construction called "Mythos". I didn't see anything in this thread that mentioned it. Does anyone know anything about it? Will it be a Greek restaurant? Isn't there a Mythos in Newport?

They have a marathon in Florida that you can rollerblade...now that would be fun!
  15. I work near Bahama Breeze and it was a lunch time favorite with my office! It was slow at times, but the food was fresh and somewhat healthy. Oh well, we still have Pappadeux's.
  16. Just got a Calzone about the size of a polar bear liver & I liked it. That is the best analogy I heard all day. I hope it didn't taste like liver though. I confirm that Jalepenos is closed in the evening. My hubby tried to go after work last week....Is ingredients still open until 7PM? I took my parents there over the weekend and they LOVED it!
  17. What about Javier's or Jalepenos downtown? Their menus are limited but I would still classify it as "authentic". I am not that into chain restaurants but Chi-Chis was one of my favorites!

I would just like to clarify that Crystal and I are "recreational joggers" I think Jean would be classified as a "runner" FYI, everything is pretty sore today, but I am definitely planning on doing another marathon this fall. :)

By the way, the previous post was from me! I was using my sister's computer and didn't realize she was logged in. Yeah we share a lot!
  20. Yeah, near Florence, SC!
  21. If I tried to get one 4 months ago, and never received one, are yall going to send me one now? Or do I need to request another one?

This would be a suggestion for the Cincinnati Day of Service....I know the Downtown Residents Council just had their spring cleanup event. Maybe we could volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club downtown Cincinnati on a Saturday? I don't know if there would be kids around, but I bet they have a need for some small constructions/painting/gardening projects. Just a thought. I used to volunteer at a Boys and Girls Club and I really like the ideas it promotes.
  23. I am not sure what this building looks like...are there pictures posted somewhere? I haven't had a chance to do the Brewery Tour where I can be further educated on this part of Cincinnati's history.

The owners of Boca were looking at the Bella location. The McAlpin has the frame shop going in one of the spaces, and the developer mentioned when we closed on our condo that a Caribou's coffee or a Starbucks would occupy another space even though there is already a Starbucks directly across the street.
  25. I wonder why Bang is not participating in the Downtown HopAround this weekend. Maybe they feel their customers will not be the same ones who will be participating in the HopAround? I think that any sort of publicity would be good publicity. I was a little disappointed not to see them involved. The hubby and I will be at the Federal Reserve for the Hop Around, so we might walk down and check out Bang. I think they have a cover charge, and I don't believe I have to pay to get into places, and then turn around and pay for drinks. So we will see.....
