Chicago: Developments and News
K-Station is actually in the Fulton River Neighborhood which is directly west of River North...though just south of what's normally considered the WL. The cap over the freeway was built quite a long time ago. For awhile, they've just parked trailers and equipment over top of it. What they are doing now is cantilevering parts of the building over the cap to join up with the Halsted viaduct. K-Station...or Kinzie Station is a huge complex of buildings by the same developer, all of varying style, size and height, and residential type. The project also includes some retail and a full grocery store. These buildings have been elevated in future anticipation of Chicago getting light rail Future Light Rail ROW If it weren't for the fencing or gates, you could almost walk all the way to Navy Pier through the basements of these buildings Hopefully someday they'll build it.

Cleveland Trust Rotunda - Part 1
What a tour! I'd be nervous to go in that vault for fear of getting trapped regardless of the escape hatch

A Day In Cleveland
Beautiful! I really like how those lofts you show in the beginning have a great lakes vocabulary to their architecture.

CHICAGO - NorthAndre's Spilled Shamrock Shake
Here I am walking on the Michigan Ave bridge, I go to take a photo and my McDonald's Shamrock Shake falls over. All of that artificial coloring was enough to turn the river bright green! And suddenly it becomes a public spectacle. All of these photos were taken March 17 500 LSD, our newest skyscraper is growing up! Hope you enjoyed, sorry about the spill.

Detroit: Cass-Davenport Historic District
Ugh...the Naomi and Chesterfield should have been a combined renovation project. Rewind back to when renovations started...fast forward to today...both buildings would have been filled. I'm not familiar with the Davenport though.

I used the app "Instagram" for iphone which applies filters for that vintage effect to make cell phone photos a bit more interesting. An Android version is soon to be available.

Detroit/Chicago Trip: Part 1, DETROIT
Yeah, I think the trains are running back at original speeds. I know they had a mishap recently, just after they started moving 100+ 5-6 hours is usually what it has historically taken....which unfortunately can be done faster by car. But the wolverine line always sells out. I usually get on/off in Ann Arbor, which is always a packed station. Looking back, I can't really think of too many neighborhoods I've avoided in Detroit. I used to ride my bike around the city just wandering during the summer. I usually avoided some places on the far west side, but the East side always seemed like safe territory for me. I think there's a good number of places you can go without out too much concern besides the major streets.

Chicago Trip Pictures: Day 1, Part 2...
Those night shots are killer!!!! I've never been up in Sears at night, so I'm quite impressed!! "Inside an L train, I call it the Detroit People Mover on STEROIDS, and serves a much greater perimeter in the city than just downtown… plus another major difference, this is a heavy rail train, the DPM is light rail." Though the CTA system is larger, the people mover is actually more advanced by rolling stock...heck at least the DPM operates in alternating current, though by the end of this year, I believe most cars will be AC. Newer CTA trains and DPM are made by Bombardier, though I'm not sure if the CTA trains can run automated (I seriously doubt it) since most switching is manual. The AG system in Detroit is technically (by construction only) heavy rail. But operates like LRT since the system was never completed, and moves at slower speeds to navigate winding turns downtown. Twin track construction of DPM + stations runs around $75 million / mile.....relatively comparable to new EL train construction in Chicago.

Detroit Back to the homeland
Thanks everyone. I think the Packard will be hanging around for awhile, so there's plenty of time to check it out. ColDayMan....the Deeeeeeeetroit Baaaaaaasketball thing is so 2007. The Pistons have moved beyond that. And sucked the past few seasons.

Detroit Back to the homeland
Some photos I took from a weekend trip to Detroit. Scuse the grainy quality, I took them all on my phone and did what I could with them. I'll follow up with a more detailed Ann Arbor thread from the previous day. I couldn't remember if used to order the small or large falafel. Definitely was small cause this was a ton of food Now to head home back to my apartment in Ann Arbor where I haven't lived for 3 years.

Detroit/Chicago Trip: Part 2, CHICAGO: Day 1, Part 1
Nice! The weather looks sunny and nice. Can't go wrong with the Hancock observatory. I happen to work in the perfect Strangers building lol...officially called the London Accident Guarantee Building. It's a beautiful and the upstairs was restored and renovated into classy modern office space in the early and mid 2000's. The ornate lobby is a tourist attraction and a great photo destination. The top floor has a cool basketball court. Unfortunately, the building is closing down the end of this year. When I started it was near 100% occupancy. When tenants tried to renew 10 year leases they were denied. Leases have now been voided and most of us have started moving out. I only have a view more months in this building to take in the beautiful views. I will miss my window seat and watching the bridges go up

Detroit: Packard

Detroit/Chicago Trip: Part 1, DETROIT
Excellent! Looks like you had a ton of fun. The Greektown photos kind of make me sad though. There's about to be some demolition action over there. Over the years, more of those active buildings have been dropped for "future plans" Laikon in your photo is getting leveled so that valet agents can run more quickly to the soon-to-be-constructed parking garage. Just got back from a weekend trip to Detroit and Ann Arbor. Felt good to be back home. Had some falafel in dearborn, and I was considering going to the bbq place in your pics. How fast did the Wolverine go? I heard they were running trains at 110 mph now.

Oh they'll scoot alright. They'll plow over all the able-walking pedestrians on their way. Those things go fast.

Chicago: Developments and News
Here's a terrible photo I took of La Casa in Pilsen tonight Slightly better photo of the 18th street cycle track. Steel bridge plates haven't arrived yet. I believe Chicago has been receiving specially coated plates from SlipNot. CDot appears to be replacing expansion joints as well.
