^ I remember having problems with the tank toilets all the time when I rented in several old homes during college. My current apartment had a new toilet installed, but they kept the pressure valve system from the 1920's that you see in commercial toilets. I got rid of my plunger, never needed it. If you do end up managing to plug the toilet...run. The plumbing is about to explode.

^ LOL!!!!! That's not fair... That building was covered in scaffolding for eternity. ----------------------------------------------- Today I was walking to the food court in the basement of Chase Tower. They have extra wide concourses, yet groups of people always seem to walk side by side....very slowly.....taking up nearly the whole width. I realize this has been discussed before, but here's part 2. Just as the hallway opens up into the large food court area, they diffuse just as you began to go around them. And no matter which way you try to go, they are still in front of you. MOVE IT!!!

DO NOT CROSS TRACKS - | - DO NOT CROSS TRACKS. What do people not understand about NOT CROSSING THE TRACKS. Wire and signage don't seem to stop people from doing this.

Merry Christmas UrbanOhio!
I had a great Christmas and was home for a week with family. I just relaxed and ate. No pressures, no deadlines, no checking email, no waking up early. Tomorrow I catch a train back to Chicago. Jan 3, vacation ends and it's back to the grind. 3 full miserable months of Chicago winter. My next week off is April. That seems like forever from now

Hmmm, installing this laminate on the countertops in my apartment is not easy stuff. I need to heat the stuff to make the curves. I haven't dripped glue on the floor yet!

Well yeah of course my 8-core 3 ghz, 24gb of ram pc blows away my humble duo core 4gb ram iMac. Super high performance isn't for most of the market. For marketability to the average user the pricing seems to be the only limitation. Yet my 3 year old iMac can have the entire adobe suite open with hundreds of images tabbed plus be rendering and still have good Performance. Again the average user isn't rendering 3d images or has 100 things open at once.

Seriously enough. Yes, the website you posted merely listed buildings and places that have been a part of litigation. It doesn't mean building owners were successful at stopping an image of a trademarked building from going to market. The 1990 Law covering 3-Dimensional Architectural works stops short of mentioning a representation of an architectural work from a visible location in a 2D application. Furthermore, as an accessory to a rendered scene, it's not convincing that the author of that image claims control over that trademark to confuse viewers over what is official. I mentioned art in my initial post, because art falls under different protections than buildings. Furthermore its a case of copyright vs trademark which is different. Architectural drawings are copyrighted, buildings are trademarked.

Meh, I liked the old design of this proposal better. Anyway, it's replaces a crappy 3 story parking garage. Image + Read more at curbed chicago: http://chicago.curbed.com/archives/2011/12/12/42story-lake-wabash-tower-rendered-anew.php

I went by Optima of Chicago today. It's now under construction Chicago Tribune http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2011-11-25/classified/ct-home-1125-development-notes-20111125_1_hardwood-floors-loft-optima-old-orchard-woods According to my counts, there's 7 highrises that have started construction downtown. 2 highrises are nearing completion. Then there's a couple midrises including the one on Wells. 2009 and 2010 were slow years, but it looks like the end of 2011 picked up the slack. 2012 will bring the New Northwestern Hospital tower, and maybe Waterview tower will resume construction.

Notice the words on this list. "alleged", "may." No only that, but we don't know what courts ruled in favor on that list. Furthemore, most of the items on that list are logos and signage..... Not Architecture. Everyone knows better than to slap a building with a bank of America logo into a 3D rendering, why would they want to? The particular ones that raise questions are the Chrysler building, Rockefeller Center buildings only, Flatiron, and superdome. This is just an example of legal paranoia and unusual interpretation to attempt to impose unreasonable restrictions. Fortunately, there's a 99.99999999999999999% you will never find yourself faced with this kind of problem. The closest I've seen this issue arise first hand was with the inclusion of real life buildings into the SimCity game. Modeling the architecture exactly was OK. Using the building names, not so much. Seems fair to me.

Nice tour! Is the abandoned subway still open?

No, that's not actually true. The buildings are ancillary subject matter to the main focus of the rendering...the new tower. If this was the case, nearly every architecture firm would be sued by now. However artwork is protected under different copyright law and is protected from being misrepresented.

^^^ Haha yeah. I remember when I got my 19" monitor in 2004 I thought it was huge. When I got my 24" iMac in 2009, it dwarfed that. Eventually I'll be getting a new iMac for the updated hardware. But it's crazy how this machine still runs like the day I got it.

That's messed up. And the interior space looks strange. The wood paneling from Grandpa's living room is everywhere! Crazy thing is I wonder if they got permission to use the flamingo statue in those renderings. I can tell you with 100% positivity that if the artist discovers the renderings, they'll be sued out of their minds....because it has happened.

Crains Chicago Reports on Sara Lee moving from the suburbs to the city. And it doesn't stop there. They are rehabbing this gem in the West Loop! Unfortunately SL is splitting into two companies. While 500 jobs come to Chicago, another 500 go elsewhere, meaning the Chicagoland region loses. http://www.chicagobusiness.com/article/20111208/BLOGS02/111209823/sara-lee-gets-up-to-6-5-million-to-move-headquarters-500-jobs-to Photo from curbed chicago http://chicago.curbed.com/archives/2011/12/08/sara-lee-to-bring-jobs-rehab-to-west-loop.php

Foundation work at AMLI Rendering is a few posts above. The Greenway Garage to the right will have the roof deck for the building on the top floor. For those who have been to this part of RN, the garage next door has those wind turbines on it. ecofriend.com

Spyguy at skyscraperpage has posted this image of a new tower in River North that will replace a parking lot. It appears to include the rehab of the old vacant fire station. Very exciting. What's also great is the parking entrance is located in the alley, dedicating 100% of the sidewalk frontage to lobby and retail. This project is proposed by JDL and it's 26 stories http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showpost.php?p=5507390&postcount=6663

Everyone keeps telling me that. I need to check it out! BTW CDOT took count of inbound traffic toward the loop on Kinzie where the new cycle tracks are 53% OF TRAFFIC WAS BICYCLES!!!! That is insane. Kinzie is a major connector between the Milwaukee Corridor and River North and Northmost parts of the Loop. We need more cycle tracks
