I'm really not fond of people coming over to my desk during Monday Morning administrative tasks at work. Really, I got to get the forms filled. I need to focus. Stop Standing Over Me!!!! What ever happened to the unwritten "wait till 9:00 am" rule.

Wow, this city really messed up bad. I've never heard of any place that doesn't swing clear their stoplights prior to a parade. You know...that's why they build them that way? Rudolph Impaled On Traffic Light

So with all the buildings "texturized" what do you think is next? My prediction is as connection speed improves, google will dish out fully modeled 3d buildings. The technology exists. My company uses laser scanning for some of our projects. What we do is set up these machines on tripods and they basically laser scan all surfaces generating point clouds. We then usually down sample or (dumb down) these 3d images..tremendously to remove things like dust and insects, hairline cracks, etc. They are then extrapolated to form surfaces and volumes, and brought into any modeling software. They help us accurately model complex spaces. Just imagine what this could do for google, and how scary it kind of is. Every detail could be modeled

EDIT, nvm, didn't realize iTunes can sort them automatically. That was easy. As for the other hard drive I intend to bring to work, any tech people here know if you can spilt the USB/firewire cable between multiple PC towers to just one hard drive, or do you need to use NAS drive? Since I do alot of 3D Animation / Video I need to be transfering data between towers in single file sizes up to 4 GB

Well, just got about all my photos I've ever taken backed up and organized. Some were buried deep with folder, within folders, within folders, within folders within folders within folders..... Of course those folders weren't any specific name or anything. Just a complete mess. My music is next. I have no clue how much. One giant block is around 40,000. I got alot of it from my friends, and they didn't do much to organize either. The rest is scattered from CD's I've ripped into my computer and at least 15 iTunes libraries of purchased music. Anyone know some good automated sorting programs for music? Getting nervous though, I'm well over half way filling up this 1 TB hard drive. I was hoping that eventually by the time that filled up 10 TB drives would be out on the market lol. Once I finish sorting everything entirely, I'll purchase another 1 TB, duplicate it and store it in a safe location in the event the current one gets damaged or fails. Once that is done, I'll just donate/give away the other drives, but use one for work since my HD space is filling quickly (as well as allocated server space)

The design of these bridges was incredible back then. Engineers knew how to make art out of these structures. I think it's sad alot of these are disappearing, but this one will survive and become an important piece of history. Today's bulky box-beam and concrete segmented bridges just don't compare to the intricacies you find in steel truss bridges

I do have to wonder what's next. They got every reach of the media and communications market covered. Appliances next? BTW, I'd like to mention the people that convinced me to use apple were actually my parents. They've always gotten stuff before me. My dad has had the ipad since it came out and it's great using it when I'm home for the holidays. My parents like to travel, and the internet is a major plus on this device. It's easier to hold an view than a laptop. Unfortunately it will and always be out of my budget range. Still plan on getting a new itouch sometime soon. The photo and video quality is great. Heck, I could do photo tours (by bike) just using that and not have to drag around my DSLR all the time.
  8. Impressive. A shame it can't be brought back into service.

Some nice buildings. And wow, haven't seen a Ben Franklin store in a very long, long time.

Totally agree. That's what I love best about it. The tight canyon of aging concrete bounded by brick buildings. It's got NYC vibe to it.
  11. The elevator entrance is a visual slap in the face compared with much of the surroundings, but I think the rather whimsical nature of the leaf-inspired canopy and railing fits. I guess I'm not much of a fan of whimsical. I think it would be 100% appropriate for a playground or park, but not a transit station. I wish when it comes to designing transit stations we'd look toward Europe for contemporary or at least early 1900 U.S. if were going for throwbacks.

I'm almost 100% positive it is the tallest. I remember following a construction thread on this one. It came out nice.

I knew this girl....or shall I say I was introduced to this girl who owned a whole apartment building near SoHo. She was absolutely crazy. The person we were staying with had a family emergency with the death of her grandmother so she hooked us up with her friend who owned this building. The whole apartment building was empty and was entirely under renovation. So we were each sleeping in these half complete apartments with only the stud walls up. In the middle of the night this girl would wake up screaming about something or other, and it would just echo throughout the whole place. Daytime she would just start up these weird conversations. At the end of our stay she was like "Oh, I want some of those photos if you don't mind emailing. If you don't, I'll kill you." We laughed and she said again, "No, really, I seriously will." I was so glad we left.

Well, I don't actually run antivirus software. I only install it when I want to check and see if I have any viruses. I figured it would be a good idea. Better safe than sorry. Turns out there were no problems. I uninstalled the program and will consider checking back time to time.
  16. Very cool neighborhood, but the transit station is absolutely hideous!! Why don't they design it of architecture area restaurants and businesses can be proud of instead of?

Funny thing is it's one of those towns that about half the state Michigan can say "I've been there." Located on US 23, most people will pass through on a vacation up north. Pass through though...

Alright, so I've had my imac for 20 months. I figured what might be a good idea is to run a Virus Scan I took all night to run scanning millions of files across my Mac as well as external hard drives How many were found on my iMac? 0, zero viruses, none. I never really bought into the "Mac's don't really get viruses" but I do now. At least there's not really many out there, and your chances of getting one are incredibly rare. I had a very old hard drive connected that had an image of my old PC laptop. It found viruses on that (of course). The software was having trouble deleting them though because of their nature be on external hard drive. So I dealt with the problem manually. I took the old hard drive and threw it in the trash. It was my way of saying, I'm never going back.

Anyone remember that Mystikal song, Shake it fast? or (Shake Ya Ass) Someone at work has had that as their ringtone fro the past two months or so....just the first part of the song with the synth clarinets only. Cracks me up every time it goes off.

Hope you had a good time with all the 16 year old girls. But not too good a time. God, it was terrible. Worst concert I've ever been to. I only went because it was a free ticket; I'm always up for trying something new. Not trusting anything out of Lombard, IL
  22. There's somewhat of an illusion that the dorms form a continuous circle around the field, but they don't. They are all different buildings of various architectures, but their walls are only 40 feet apart so it's tough to tell if they are joined or not. Couzens only borders the North side of the field. Its last renovations were done in the 90's I believe. Green and beige tile with green doors and transom windows. It actually wasn't horribly out of date, and the rooms had drywall in superb condition. People would still pound nails to hang pictures and paint ugly colors, but the housing staff at the end of the year would patch up where necessary and repaint the rooms back to the white, beige, and forest green color scheme. I painted my room grey and white, which I believe was left unmodified for a few years after. Other parts of the building still had the original wood paneling, fireplaces, and french doors. The 2nd floor, which was the main level had most of this in the lobby, living room and admin offices and halls. The ground floor had this horribly ugly retro-lounge thing, with ugly rainbows and circular seating. Strip club or day care? It was never used, more than a walk-through space to get outside. If you sat there you were weird. At one time it was a popular cafe. A nasty grease fire ruined that and the fire damaged areas were never repaired, walled off and forgotten. Certainly during renovations the false walls have been removed. No idea if the former function of a cafe will be restored.

The neighbors dump untreated sewage? What are they doing, pissing in buckets or something?

I shower in the morning to feel fresh going to work, and then shower immediately when I get home from the office, or right after I workout when I get home. Because I don't cook, nothing feels better then taking shower then going to get a nice meal. The best part of my shower is the view. There's actually a window inside of it. It's frosted glass, but I'll turn off the bathroom lights, and open the window up to look out. During the winter the hot water and cold air outside make a ridiculous amount of steam
