Downtown Detroit in Danger of Demolition
- Detroit- abandoned Rivertown
FYI, Rivertown was actually a viable area with restaurants, bars, clubs, microbrewery etc, but the city killed it when the proposed casino was supposed to go there....which it didn't.- Visiting Chicago - Looking for things to do
I've seen anything and everything at the lounge. I would say dress "Friday Casual" at work. You know.... nicer shoes, jeans, and a nice button-up shirt or sweater.- Andre's Chicago Photo(s) of the Day(s)
Chicago had its lights festival this past weekend. It was ridiculously crowded all the way up and down Michigan Ave. At the river they shot off fireworks. A group of us went up to my warm office and sipped hot chocolate, watching the spectacle from above. Fortunately the windows open so we were able to hear and see everything clearly- Visiting Chicago - Looking for things to do
If you go to the hancock building definitely go to the lounge. I went up to the observation deck after not trying it in a few years and it was a tremendous disappointment. Bright lights and a new coffee shop obstruct views. Don't forget to visit State Street! I also agree with Chris. Take the brown line to armitage and walk around. Lots of great architecture Get breakfast at Ann Sather's on Belmont. Amazing cinnamon rolls. Shopping is expensive on Oak Street. Even people who live on Oak Street can't afford the retail. :-D Although I've found plenty of reasonably priced stuff at Barney's I do enjoy their restaurant on the top floor too. Check out Wicker Park. Take the blue line out there and get off at Damen. Marvel at the 6-way intersection and all the people and great architecture.- Downtown Detroit in Danger of Demolition
Was back in detroit on business and got some photos of the Lafayette. I can't imagine this block without it.- Detroit: Demolition Watch
These buildings are actually several blocks and one major street away. IMO they are trying to dump a liability- Columbus: Downtown: Hilton Columbus
That's pretty bland and boring design. Gotta love all that blank brick wall at the base. Definitely would be a bleak experience walking past this. Convention centers and their accessory buildings really need to do a better job to liven up their immediate surroundings even during non-event times. This hotel isn't helping. When I hear clients talking about how they want to liven up a commercial street, or make an area exciting or welcoming to the public, I'd be thinking much differently than this.- Show a pic of yourself!
Again, I avoid J-Crew because their dress shirts wrinkle very easily. I remember the days before paying for full laundry service I'd spend at least 40 minutes trying to rid those shirts of wrinkles.- Andre's Chicago Photo(s) of the Day(s)

I know he's considered joining UO from time to time.- Andre's Chicago Photo(s) of the Day(s)

Building being demoed are the red brick one on the right and the structure behind all the scaffolding (which has major sinking issues). The red brick structure with the large glass windows on the left is being renovated. Eventually E-W university will expand next door.....eventually....eventually............ You can actually see one tiny chunk of the back of the YMCA in the first photo below at the very far right where's there's a chunk of common brick at the top.- Show a pic of yourself!
Urbanohio just isn't built strong enough to handle the forumer over on the left. And if second to the left posted his photo threads, we'd have to shut City Photos USA down.- Andre's Chicago Photo(s) of the Day(s)
Logan Square- Beautiful Toledo
Where's the photos of the hot Lebanese chicks? I agree that Toledo is underrated. The city has a lot of great architecture. Those aren't bullet holes in the slide. It's from kids pounding holes in it with sticks. Our park and school playground slides had a bunch of those- Chicago- YWCA building
Two older buildings almost immediately behind this structure have been demolished. Reason for demolition, the owners said they were "vacant and boarded up" Uh well okay...dumb reason, but I guess the site will be built on in the near future though.- Chicago Skyline - 1 panoramic photo
Thanks Guys The Century Center is further Northeast from here. I don't care for that view as it compresses the skyline. Not to mention that place is depressing. 8 story mall of gloom and doom.- Chicago Skyline - 1 panoramic photo
Like Rob did, I just want to do one photo since it's big and would bog down my Chicago thread. Hope you enjoy. I shot this from the Childrens Memorial Hospital on Lincoln Ave. It offers a further out, but unobstructed view --- which became the fate of the North Ave Collection Garage, now with a tower plopped in front of the view. As long as zoning restrictions continue to keep stuff below 8 floors, this view should remain complete for years to come SCROLL ----------------------> SCROLL ---------------------->- People your city loves to hate.
LOL! At least people from Columbus can identify where those people are. Michiganders: "I hate OSU! Where's Columbus, is it near Cedar Point?"- Winter! Post your pics here!
It's 66 degrees right now in Chicago. I can't imagine winter at the moment- Detroit- Jefferson Chalmers
I know the first one is on the demo list, but I can't say it will be for long. Some of these buildings go on and off for years depending on the circumstances.- Chicago- YWCA building
If people knew what is getting saved, what should be getting saved, what we lost and what we are building, and what older building stock we have, you would likely agree that this building has got to go. It's cheap for its time of construction. The article had a lot of fluff, but I'm missing the part about lavish ornamentation. This is actually pretty watered down in comparison to the rest of Michigan Ave. If we save this building, we may be making sacrifices. So many other beautiful buildings could come down for a tower that could have gone here. Note this is virtually the only abandonment in the area on some of the most prime property. It failed at getting renovated in at least two phases of building booms where restoration was a priority, especially in this area. So something is very wrong with this structure. - Detroit- abandoned Rivertown
