Well, there was that one semi-urban ohio/ssp meet in Cincinnati. I have photos

Something like this, which happened just a few weeks ago: edit: can't figure out what i'm doing wrong with the vid embed and this may have already been posted somewhere else... Mod: Fixed. Everyone's all chill in that video. The one girl just looks uncomfortable with the situation before her.

I don't recall streetcar ROW where that incident happened unless it's a completely separated lane or a station, which from the photos it does not appear to be. Some of the streetcar tracks are in turn lanes, so the train operator is clearly at fault if the driver was stopped, waiting to turn.

I'm wondering what would have happened if the SUV wasn't there. Actually I'm not wondering. There would have been a train into train crash. There's no doubt about that. Look how smashed that SUV is. I think the orange tram was moving fast and hitting the brakes would haven't done much to evade a collision with the red tram in front.

Why even bother throwing the brakes on? By the way, WHAT A SOUND! :: SHUDDER :: Yeah, it's pretty awful. Apparently there was an "obstruction" on a set of tracks near where I used to live. The sound of the freight train slamming on the brakes sounded just like that. Woke everyone up that night. Cat Pancakes? http://www.Break.com/index/worlds-slowest-cat.html
  6. Hmmm, best without. The music can be really cheesy sometimes http://www.plantext.bf.umich.edu/projects/palmer/UM.mp4

How the heck do I cancel Comcast? (If anyone here has it) Their phone menu takes me in loops. Moving from Ann Arbor to I have no idea, so I can't transfer service unfortunately.

Holy crap! Such beautiful landscape, and really unexpected shots with the wildlife.

I hope Kumar Towers goes away already. Ugly building. When I went in there many years ago the floor slabs in the parking structure portion were starting to come apart. That fence has been up for maybe a year now (?) just in case one of those large precast panels decides to fall off. ______________________ FYI, the base of this building is entirely brand new. It was rebuilt a couple years ago. They did a good job.
  11. The petition is a waste of time, IMO. There's much more serious losses Chicagoans have had to deal with....You know LaSalle Bank, Wards and Marshall Fields. I'd take Willis Tower over Empty Tower, which is exactly what this skyscraper was on its way to being. What part of history does Sears deserve? They bailed on their city for the suburbs and aren't exactly a first rate department store. Why not honor the loss of the stockyard or the steel industry, the true builders of Chicago.

I-75 Fire and Collapse Wonder how many people in Detroit opted not to come to work today http://freep.com/article/20090716/NEWS05/907160605/MDOT--9-Mile-bridge-can-t-be-salvaged This is a very dangerous portion of I-75. It makes a few tight turns through an urban area. Traffic is prohibited from changing lanes and must reduce their speed to 50 mph. Traffic does about 80 through that area regardless
  13. Jeez guys, the article is just mentioning the space station will be visible in the sky. The photo is a nice little bonus. It's not like it's their mission to shoot urban photos from space, lol. Who are we to judge

That's what I've been hoping to figure out. I'm not entirely sure if it was auto related. Here's a link http://maps.google.com/maps?client=safari&q=Detroit,+MI&oe=UTF-8&ie=UTF8&split=0&gl=us&ei=P09eSuidIpWINpjxgcAC&ll=42.305079,-83.101916&spn=0.003428,0.006582&t=h&z=18&layer=c&cbll=42.304536,-83.101946&panoid=d2cYq7IB4K-Ptk41FYcIgQ&cbp=12,6.74,,0,-7.47

Drove around the city today and saw this abandoned factory on a desolate 4 lane one-way. I drove right into the complex. Don't know why, but I actually find this beautiful....and ironic. All this talk about replacing automotive industry with green jobs....to see a literal example of a natural product being manufactured in a man-made structure. The place was so peaceful, only a few motorists drove by. Later on a patrol car briefly paused with an officer instructing to be careful. Indeed, as metal hung dangerously above. It will probably be demolished in the near future, but for a moment it almost seems worth saving as it is
  16. I remember the business I worked for had so many low value transactions (copy printing/convenience store) we lost quite a bit of money on fees. Amex wasn't a card we liked to see. I actually consider using a credit card for anything under $5 as somewhat abusive....unless of course it's an emergency like getting a beverage during hot weather. Believe me, I've been there with only a debit or credit card on bike rides.
  17. I'll have to dig up more official info, but basically if you want a chance to see Michigan Central Station LEGALLY, now is your chance. It's open to everyone.....but only if you are wiling to help clean up a little. Groups of people have volunteered to sweep and remove debris station at no cost to the billionaire owner to help extend the future of this building. Qualified individuals are removing alot of the heavier stuff such as ductwork and broken plumbing. Many aesthetic improvements are being done to make it less of a ruin. Last time I rode past their on my bike, it looked almost like a major construction site. Props to people volunteering to give this building a little TLC. Just think, you can be a part of the action too! The owner has made somewhat muted commitments to saving the building, although we haven't seen much action as far as deterring vandalism and trespass. There is now talk of the GSA renovating this building into a trade center of some sorts or possibly department of homeland security, being that it's close to a border crossing. At one time, the city wanted to make this the police hq, having it act as a centerpiece of the new justice center. The costs of renovating the building were relatively undetermined, and with the city in a budget crisis the plan pretty much fell apart.
  18. Nice shots! It's cool to see these sort of stories about businesses. I also appreciate the construction shots. I haven't seen the Banks up close since it was just an empty site.
  19. This makes me really want to see more, I hope you do post more!
  20. Love it! You know this reminds me of the 3rd Street promenade in Santa Monica, except that the architecture you've shown seems a lot more interesting. Great photos!

Thanks everyone! Yeah I thought about putting more architecture into this one, but I've done so many building and streetscape photos of A2, I figured people might get bored of them by now. Lately, I've been trying to add another dimension to my photography by focusing more on street activity. I'm kind of broke right now, so Ann Arbor is all I really have to offer at the moment lol. Although I'm doing a trip to Chicago this weekend so maybe I'll do something interesting. Your CTA shots were pretty inspiring, rob :-)

Really nice! Despite being out to Minneapolis a few times, I haven't been to Saint Paul. Some nice looking new stuff in here.

Beautiful Sunday evening today. I rarely use my zoom lens, so I decided to try it out a bit and depart from focusing mainly on architecture shots for a break. The End. Hope you enjoyed!
