That art decoish building to the slight left in this photo has always struck my curiosity. If this is the correct building I'm thinking of, this one is supposed to be renovated soon. The problem is, some preservationists consider a building that is "on hold" an endangered building since the time spent sorting through finances is also time spent in deferred in maintenance. I just remember a bunch of concern for what I believe is this building. I think they were always worried the lobby would be modified. Regardless, its empty at the moment and dark when I walk by it at night. Don't know about the South shore, but the CTA has these photography guidelines. It is permitted as long as you don't disrupt service or venture into off limits areas. http://www.transitchicago.com/business/photopolicy.aspx It would probably be the least of their concerns unless you are being reckless. I was kind of ticked when someone set off a box of firecrackers in one of the subway stations, security didn't do anything except scold them.

The glass on it actually looks thinner than the one in the CN Tower. I think they said it was 4 inches thick (in Toronto)

Definitely option 1. If you are working to save money, I'd agree with your decision not to paint the whole house. The existing blue goes well with the grayish roof. If you were willing to go all out and sink a bunch of money into it, I'd say put on a new roof with a darker color where you can get more paint schemes to compliment it. But the roof already looks like its in excellent condition, so I doubt you'd want to do that!

What a pleasant surprise this city was. Had a friends wedding to go to so I drove with a group of college friends all the way from Ann Arbor, MI to Sioux Falls. Though we were there for about 4 days, our first day had the nicest weather. I spent about 4 hours photographing downtown. I wish i could pick this city up and move it to Michigan, but knowing the way my state works, they'd ruin such a great thing. Sioux Falls is a booming city, and the recession clearly missed them. They had quite a bit of new construction. Fin.

I couldn't believe the number of wind turbines I saw driving through southern Minnesota. They looked pretty unobtrusive in the landscape actually, and if more rural areas could join in on these type of projects, just imagine the difference it could make.

I'm considering trying it tomorrow evening on my way back from Sioux falls or else I'll make a trip to Chicago sometime next week

This building was near a total loss. Stripped of its beauty in the 50's and in decrepit condition only a few years ago, this structure was brought back to life and anchors the East Hills neighborhood of Grand Rapids. Man, looks like a lot of work to do. My landlord is renovating [technically restoring] my apartment right now. Just watching the plumbing being replaced right now...Oy!

Now that I think of it, Flint, MI had two brand new buildings that collapsed. And Detroit's buildings are basically collapsing by the hundreds. So I guess China ain't all that bad.

This frustrates me greatly. Another "V" shaped building bites the dust. Have fun filling that one up. We tolerated the Tuller, the Statler, and now this? I can't believe it. I could care less what the DDA voted, I'm more frustrated with DEGC since this was their idea in the first place.
