What, if you have one, is your workout routine?
This isn't very routine, but I'm very happy that I did a 36 mile bike ride today. I'm working on doing a bike ride from Ann Arbor to Detroit. Both cities are 36 miles apart, but as you can see, I only went halfway today. Much of my journey involved using a complex network of bike trails, then cutting through a college campus, through a couple neighborhoods, then taking Michigan Ave the rest of the way. The speed limit on Michigan Ave is 60 mph, so it's a bit dangerous, BUT the shoulder is 11 feet wide. It's actually only used as a turn lane in emergencies, meaning drivers can't use it as a deceleration lane even to turn into driveways. At intersections it's a valid turn lane, but sidewalks appears at least 200 feet prior, which I use. You can see where they block it out here: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=Ypsilanti,+MI&ie=UTF8&split=0&gl=us&ei=rZcTSunfDtrEmQfnzdzuAw&ll=42.267675,-83.502515&spn=0.001701,0.003278&t=k&z=19&iwloc=A It should be interesting taking the second half of the route where's more urbanized and hood. I want to have ridden 100 miles in just two days.

What's crazy is when this type of incident happens on a bike. I remember I was coming down a big hill on a busy street at about 28 mph. This girl had her dog break loose off its leash and it ran out across the street at an angle in front of me that was unpredictable. I figured this may not end well, but better to keep a straight line then swerve out in vehicular traffic. Well, I slammed into little fluffy and surprisingly didn't fall off my bike. Had this impact been with a person, they definitely would have been in the hospital, but the dog was ok. The owner was said "I'm glad you didn't die, sorry!" lol

If the prankster is the 911 caller, then indeed they should be fined. However, if some 8 year old accidentally jammed the stuffed animal in the drainpipe then it's the taxpayers loss. Oh well, just forget about it and move on.

Cincinnati NBDs Map
That's pretty cool, atlas.

I think the stitching program in photoshop cs4 is pretty good. I've fire through some pretty sloppy images and it was able to join them without any issues. It even leveled the color out a bit because I had shot each on auto. A website with a bunch of these would sure generate some traffic, but you would need to implement an interface that's easy to move around in. I've tried doing this type of thing in flash, but my controls made moving around kind of choppy, and the images wouldn't always resolve correctly.

I really wonder how well those fire safes actually protect documents. There were a lot of instructions with mine where it had to be set over floor joists. It also only has a 1 hour fire rating on it. FYI, many residential buildings have walls and doors with a 1 hour fire rating, yet after the FD leaves, you have a burned out hulk......so basically your contents will be heat damaged regardless. I should have never bought this safe, which I rarely even lock. It's better to have duplicate copies of things in a safe deposit box instead....that includes external hard drives.

There's a lady catfight going on the balcony 15 feet from my bedroom window.

^ LOL. Awesome site. I think you could just take photos all in a row zoomed in. Stitch each photo in each panoramic together, and take those completed panoramics and stitch them vertically.

It's Amazing How History Repeats Itself...
Well, if I was a landlord in Athens, I wouldn't let them party there. The typical near-century-old college rental can stand up to all the people and spilled beer. But when you get kids smashing things or lighting stuff on fire, I'd never consider it.

Career Networking / Job Posting Thread
Community development jobs are popping up every day in many cities. It's not really my area of interest, but I do have a solid educational background on this. I wonder if I'm just going to have to push myself to apply.

The catering menu is actually pretty weak to be honest. I've been to a few corporate owned suites at minor and major league games and it's like a freaking banquet. The amount of food and options is almost to the point of absurdity. Plus there's the open bar, with tons of drink options. Maybe they don't want to offer as much to be sure people's stomachs won't cramp up in the pool lol. Here's a Midland vs Dayton game I went to. They brought out Dessert. And this is actually kind of cool [non cheesy] addition to a ballpark. I'd also like the to mention this particular ballpark is solar powered

Ballparks today are full of so many distractions. Food Courts, bars, carousels, ferris wheels, music every 5 seconds, water features, oversized scoreboards. I actually call this the Navy Pier Syndrome.

Zaha Hadid
I like a lot of her work too, but it's an engineer's nightmare. Look at all that reinforced concrete supported by think columns.

It's Amazing How History Repeats Itself...
The story is the same with Michigan State's Cedarfest. People come from all over, sometimes causing the situation to escalate if they have no real incentive to respect their peer's hometown

It's Amazing How History Repeats Itself...
Dang! If this stuff happened in Ann Arbor, it would be the end of the world. I don't think we even have riot police, or at the very least the gear for this type of situation. Yet we manage to have big block parties, and the party cups scattered about the next day are the biggest concern of the event.

Where in the world is... Sherman Cahal?
I think my father bought a really nice North Face tent about a decade ago for what was supposed to be family trips. But then he started his PhD program and my sister went off to college. So much for that. I'm sure my parents would be more than happy to lend it if they can find it. I seriously can't remember the last time I camped using a tent. There was those leadership camps (that looked good on college aps) I went to back in high school, but we stayed in barracks or cabins with modern amenities. Maybe Sherman would suggest we stay at the abandoned Brach's Candy Factory west of Chicago. We won't even need food when we can scoop up the spilled corn syrup on the floor. I heard every floor is a different flavor. We nay be able to pass on the stove too David, because I hear they still have the fire canons form filming the Batman movie there.

That hacker may have infiltration skillz, but their web design skills are lacking. If you are gonna brag, at least get out of tacky green fonts and centering all the content. I see a broken image link too.

Urban Ohio House Cleveland... other cities?
No offense dude, but there's no need to wait for others. You can nail those boards (literally) like joining Habitat for Humanity. Find out, and show up at neighborhood cleanups. What happens then, is you network and build relationships with CDC's and residents. Who knows, you could even join an established CDC and make a REAL difference because they have the money. Doing it yourself or with a small group of people is difficult. You need to do a lot of research, obtain the right information, and have quite a bit money to invest in repairing a home with people that you trust. I have some experience in community development...it's very difficult and you will encounter many unknowns that will complicate a project. My point is that it's extremely difficult to initiate change on an internet discussion board and get people to contribute money or at the very least show up. Keep thinking big, but look in the right direction first.

Where in the world is... Sherman Cahal?
I'm just glad Sherman is patient taking photos when in those abandoned places. I feel like the Michigan Central Station visits for forum meetups are like 17 floors in 15 minutes. Hey if we do camp at Indiana dunes, Chicago must be in the plans shortly after.

Where do you live?
That's pretty cool. I would like to buy one for my next apartment. It will go with my city photos, and my architecture models from undergrad.
