2008 Chicago, Michigan
If only the buildings on Jamaica Ave were a bit taller, then maybe! Rob, don't give nofunk here on the forum any ideas, he's from Milwaukee!

2008 Chicago, Michigan
Michigan is boring and depressing at times so I travel to Chicago about once a month and pretend that it's part of Michigan and there's no such thing as a recession. C H I C A G O 2008 in Review Get the hell out of my way! Uptown Chicago. Still hood IMO Uptown Theater. Currently being renovated. It's being dismantled and reassembled piece by piece. Chicago has a heavy emphasis on it's parks, and it's clear they are heavily used Cabrini Green (what's left of it) Note all the shiny condos surrounding it. Chicago tends to leave their scaffolds unattended so it's easy to get these 10 foot up shots. This is right by that devilish red CNA building My flickr account shows this as 08, but I don't think it is. Still, it's one of my favorites Hard to believe this was a railyard at one time. Attendance cap was accidentally overshsot by about a million OOPS.... Someone was at the Kanye West Glow In the Dark concert If you plan to do night shooting, I'd highly recommend 3:00 am in the morning. Chicago streets in the loop are so dead, you can set up a tripod in the middle of any street, although Most of these shots were done just holding the camera steady. Nikons are pretty good at that. This is the view from my friend's office. I'd love every morning sitting down and looking out this window Turn the other direction and you get this! BTW, they are hiring. So long Chicago, until next week! :-D

Q for architect familiar with home construction
Here you go MTS, this is 4 stories tall and in a public building! One day I went to the small cafe on the ground floor and got cruel laughter as a few people bombed going down this. It was mostly their faults for not paying attention, but very dangerous. They do look kind of nice though. Ironically, the building name is 211 Hayward. Maybe this was my evil plan.

Detroit: Demolition Watch
BTW, I love this building and I'm happy to see the facade being saved. It's a facade that MUST be saved because of what it contributes to the scale along the streetwall. However, I don't believe anyone here knows what lurks beneath this facade. The whole structure cannot be saved. It would take an act of God. It's so collapsed and dangerous that every little step you take this building groans. I have photos of the interior if anyone is interested.

Louisville: Developments and News
That Frankfort Ave development is amazing. I can't believe it's new. A job well done.

Ohio verse NY drivers license
A lease doesn't necessarily force you into residency, even buying a home in another location. It's really what you choose to list as your permanent address. If a lease meant something, I'd be in trouble.

Dubai: Developments and News
Our architecture/engineering firms depend on it. Without these projects, expect the largest US firms in that sector to collapse. A couple of my friends work for firms in Chicago doing exclusively work in the middle east since even public projects in the US are slow.

Tagging East Dayton
That's worst graffiti I've ever seen. Where's the talent and clever location? It's little kids trying to make it hood on aluminum siding. Please. Find an alley or railroad cut. Do it well and the city may declare it historic. It's like Nas vs Soulja boy. David are you with me on this?.

Ohio verse NY drivers license
I thought it was required in most states for drivers license only (not ID) after a couple months of residency, although I don't know of a single person who has abide by this. I know so many Michiganders who have gone to Chicago, don't change their licenses for years, don't pay city vehicle registrations as required by law since law enforcement has no way of checking or caring, and somehow manage to keep their insurance in their native state. hmmmm.... Seems if the system is broken, may as well use it to their advantage.

The courts will probably throw it out. While frivolous lawsuits seem to be more popular everyday they are wasting courts' time and many of these are getting tossed.

It actually won a bunch of design awards I think. Great set Zach

I was thinking about this the other day. It makes me laugh all the time, but my friends have told me it's good when they last visited Canada.

Favorite Music At The Moment?
Chris Brown doesn't bother me all that much. And I think T-Pain was replaced by Lil Wayne. Yeah, the whole voice thing was interesting for two tracks but it got old. The real offenders of redundancy are Akon and Ne-Yo. I sampled Akon's newest album at a borders and couldn't stop laughing.

Yeah, I don't really understand what you can do to a pair of glasses that necessitate that kind of price. You can get decent sunglasses for 10 bucks. You see so many women with the staple 'LV' bag, it's clearly just a way for women to try and look wealthy in public. Those bags are ugly if you ask me. They all look the same. 90% of those are probably fake. My wife asked out of curiosity what the price of this one particular bag was. "oh , that's one of our new cruise bags. It's $2,300.". Cruise bags, eh? Is that because they cost as much as one? lol...2300. That's crazy. If it's not a classic design it'll probably go out of style in 1 year. That's why I always try and buy classic looking stuff. I only spend a lot on clothes if it's a t shirt, polo or button up because the higher end stuff still doesn't cost that much. If I can scrounge up some money within a few months I really want to get one something like this: I only have 1 polo. I love that burberry polo and ralph lauren stuff is always classic. You can get really good deals online for expensive clothes - a lot of vendors give you exact measurements of the stuff so you know how its gonna fit without trying it on. Up by where my parents live they have an unusual outlet center that's carries overstock from higher end stores. I have a friend who buys a lot of Burberry and got it all at a normal store, only to return it all later when he got it for 1/4 of regular price at their outlet. It shows the reality of pricing quite clearly. I mean, they are still profiting at outlets.

Season's Greetings - 2010 Additions
Just thought I'd post another tree before I head to bed like the rest of the fam. In a place many of you will recognize. It's actually one of my favorite Christmas trees: Mid-concourse - Toronto Eaton Centre

Kanawha Hotel, Ice House, Russell Railyards YMCA, Ro-Na Theater
That's sad, but why was it demolished? Instead of waiting for another plan 7-10 years down the road?

Merry Christmas and happy holidays. Here's the tree at my parents house. It's real btw, so we can't turn the fireplace on.

Cincinnati - An abandoned rail tunnel and the Big Mac Bridge
Woah! I love these types of tours. Isn't there a tunnel that used in Cincinnati to exist a few years ago parallel to the freeway but was covered on one end by a park? I want to check that out too.

Gary, Indiana
I've always had a feeling Gary will be one of those cities that surprises us someday. I know it's difficult for cities in the Southern shadow of Chicago to draw some strength but you never know.
