Ne-Yo gets on my nerves. All those harps and sh!t he throws in his music. Bout time he got slapped for no reason lol. The fact that it all happed at Louis Vuitton cracks me up. I walked through there last year (of course I couldn't afford anything) but it's the last place I'd imagine something like that happening. Sounds like a Boondocks episode in the making for season 3.

Is it just me or does google maps now suck. They slightly revised the layout making it more difficult to use street view.
  3. Architecture asside, it's still a very up to date facility. U of M's was constructed in the late 60's I think. It feels like a cross between A Sam's Club, a Toronto Subway Station, and maybe an elementary school. Bright orange and blue painted cmu block walls. Very low dark ceilings made of metal grating with wonderful fluorescent lighting. For the art students, lockers everywhere, just like a school! U of M's arch school has the potential to be really nice after a massive renovation. The studio spaces and the recently renovated courtyard are really the only major selling points of the building. It has the largest contiguous studio floorspace of any architecture school in the world.
  4. That's right, they got sued didn't they? I think it was originally less time than that though. Anyway, an Ohio based chain Michiganders love is Marco's.
  5. I've always loved the Youngstown Courthouse. Anyone got photos of it at night?
  6. I'd take OSU architecture school and move it to U of M any day. We'd love to have it. I've been in there three times now and love it more on every visit. Our architecture school is kind of ugly and dated.
  7. We've had a lot of new buildings go up lately. Just figured I'd share a few that are rising at the moment. Some of these projects will officially mark the end of available building space on U of M's Central Campus. We were fortunate to have only a couple surface lots, but they have all now been filled with new buildings. I applaud the U's efforts for realizing the importance of urban density, as well as encouraging staff to take public transit instead of driving. Although the costs of parking on campus are almost equivalent to those in NYC All projects are funded internally or privately through donations and gifts. Some of this may be coming from the $3.1 billion the university raised through it's recent giving campaign. NORTH QUAD More: http://www.si.umich.edu/north-quad/ Architect: RAM Stern (noted for his excellent revivalist architecture) Cost: $175 Million Completion Date: 2010 Status: Steel construction complete, masonry work begun Interesting Note: Incorporates the facade of the old Carnegie library, nearly a century old SOUTH HALL Note, the red building behind is the recently completed Ford School of Public Policy Architect: Hartman-Cox (another leading firm in revivalist architecture) Cost: $102 Million Completion Date: 2012 Status: Site work to begin in early 2009 Interesting Note: The project is across the street from the historic law quad. Historic contracts mandate additions to the law quad must be of the same construction and materials. The U in the 70's bypassed these restricts by constructing a 3 story library underground. The new building doesn't have comply with these rules since it's across the street. But hey, why not! C.S. Mott Children and Women's Hospital Architect: HKS Cost: $523 Million Completion Date: 2011 Status: Steel construction complete Interesting Note: Lots of donations went into building this. In fact a special bike was made on American Chopper and auctioned to raise money for the hospital. One day we were randomly switching channels, and there was my housemate (#20 jersey) on the show: Michigan Stadium Architect: HNTB Architecture Cost: $226 Million Completion Date: 2010 Status: Steel construction complete, masonry work begun Interesting Note: The stadium will now have luxury suites. A lot of students were against this. The seating capacity of the bowl will not be enlarged. Current technical capacity is 107,501. Actual attendance is 109,000. Expected technical capacity is 108,000. Future actual capacity is unknown, but the largest attendance in stadium history was over 112,000 against OSU in 2003. I was at that game, but in the 90th row :-( I'll post more renderings soon. And of course construction photos.
  8. Riding the train into Chicago is one of those "real chicago experiences" I believe in. Great photo thread rob!

I'll check the battery connectors, but man I'm really hoping it won't end up being my fuel pump. That will be some $$ Yeah U of M will do that too. Except they keep track and will actually make you pay after the 3rd time.

No that's good, I want to make sure everything is clear. So yes, problems getting it started, and then the battery immediately draining after the car is running. The battery is almost 1 year old (still under warranty). But this problem (with the battery) I'm having seems to worsen in cold weather. In other words, I don't seem to have this problem when it's warm outside.

    Yes, this exactly.

How are such facilities dated. They are timeless monuments unless you want to be stored in a modernist piece of trash. I don't know about being memorialized by a park bench. It's like being sat on or something.

Figured someone on here might know something. So I've had a 1996 Chevy S10 pickup for about 3 year now and have had no problems until about last year, and I think the problems are related. It started with really slow startups last December when it was cold. I thought it was the fuel filter, so I replaced it. We got some warmer weather and all was good for about a month. Then one day I came out and the battery was dead. I jumped it and all was good, but I still had slow startups, and then a week later, my car battery died again. (I was NOT leaving lights on/stuff plugged in) So I replaced the battery Fixed. The car still had slow startups, but never failed. Weather got warmer all was good. Then came November of this year, and it was cold out again. Battery dying all the time! Well, it's a new battery so I figured it was the alternator. Bought a new alternator A month passes. Now I go outside in this cold weather and the car won't start. I figured because I hadn't drive in a week or two. I jump start it, drive it around, although I still notice my voltage is only charging until 10-11 v, which isn't enough. Usually I'm at about 12 v. WTF? I'm going to Sears to have this fixed. But I'm not about to replace the regulator and call the whole system new. Could I just have a bad cell even though its new? Possibly a power draw from some unknown source? I've considered removing all the fuses and letting it sit a week to experiment. Except my battery dies so often, I can't even set up the experiment. BAH!!!!

Sets usually take 2 years to construct, so you might want to work on the rest of the region first lol.

I plan to either go to a bar or club. I have to contact my friends early on this since you need to buy tickets at some of the best places. Otherwise I'd bar hop at places that won't be incredibly crowded. I'm keeping open to anything this year. I've done NYE at Navy Pier before. It's mostly family oriented, but you can still buy alcohol and get wasted next to the Children's Museum lol. Actually, I wouldn't advise NP to anyone my age. It's extremely crowded with families (you know how children make crowded places unbearable). It's usually freezing and snowing hard as your standing in 2 inches of water at the edge of the pier, and the fireworks are small. I was so effed up. I remember getting back to my friends and ordering one of those huge buckets of 100 chicken wings. Damn, I should get some sleep. It's 6:00 a.m and I work at noon. Ahhh post college exam insomnia..

No need to worry, they do not smell, and they have no environmental output. Although if your residents are really opposed to this facility moving in, they'll have to look at other valid complaints such added traffic or compliance with zoning. You can't really complain about the environmental aspects since the average home or apartment puts out way more pollution. As for other some of the other responses, I think I'd want my body stored in mausoleum. Some of them are incredible architectural landmarks, but I think it would come down to whatever my family thinks is best.

I'm heading to Chicago as I always have since I have a bunch of friends there. And then I'll start off the year fresh by driving home to Ann Arbor the next day likely through a snowstorm (as always). I'll probably just take the train there to and from AA this time. It's usually like $20, but being the holidays I'm sure prices will be awful.

What is actually visible in this photo is temporary, it's not intended to support a building, but hold back earth while foundation work proceeds. If this thing sat there for 10 years left alone, it would probably collapse. It's like leaving scaffolding up on a building without any construction...the forces of nature eventually knock it down.

I've decided I want to purchase a laser cutter. They are $10,000 But I heard you make a lot of money off them charging people to cut and engrave materials.

While the thread title is Mozilla Firefox, I noticed that when I load large photo threads in FF at work things freeze up. This happened today and yesterday. To make matters worse, I was using the main computer than runs my building's server which handles everyone's print jobs. So I had to reset it resulting in 15 minutes downtime, and of course wiping out 150 job in the print queue.....oops. It works fine in IE so I guess I'll use that instead.

It's really crazy though to look at Chicago back in the 50's-60's. Ugly as hell. North River looked odd with it's taller buildings gripping to the edge of the elevated street system while warehouses and parking laid scattered about to the East of them. All the buildings were covered in dirt and grime and railroad tracks dumped into downtown fro mall sides. Then of course the JH rose looking entirely out of place, and way too tall for the city. Now it blends perfectly, and the city couldn't be without it.
  22. Yessir, University of Michigan has cut out most of the lower level seats for standing room, although there are still a few seats up front for the elderly and seats arranged against the wall instead of perpendicular to it. The sliding double doors at the back creating an ample 4.5 foot opening also adds to that affect.

Well, I just prefer being considerate of other's prvacy. Just because you can repost pictures of people either looking normal at a party or looking like fools doesn't mean you should. That doesn't mean I've posted party photos before. I have, with friends with friend's holding alcohol in them. But I did get their permission before putting them up on my flickr, and of course facebook gives an option to remove it. Furthermore my flickr photos have specific licenses on them, so I can slap anyone with copyright infringement if they do choose to repost without permission. But to put their photos up on a forum is just weird to me. It's taking them from a site where content can be regulated (such as facebook) and placing them in a location where photos can not be regulated.

I swear if someone posted photos of me at a party on a forum I wasn't aware of, I'd be incredibly pissed.

Man, I can't wait to move there in May.
