Photos of Saginaw, Michigan from my office building.
It's the historical museum, which was formerly the post office. It's actually larger than it looks and goes back to about where that lit skylight is.

seen it all yet? how's about a vinyl-sided new apt tower?
I was thinking more along the lines of this except 5 times as tall http://www.donohoeconstruction.com/images/solomons.large.jpg

Living Car Free
Remember the early days in high school when you couldn't wait to drive? Well, I can't wait to get back to Ann Arbor for my final year of grad school, where I can get everywhere via bus, walking, and biking.....and maybe the train if I'm feeling adventurous. I drive a compact truck and it gets about 24 mpg, so it's not what you want to use to get everywhere, so I'm going to take it to the top floor of a parking structure and keeping it there whenever I need it. I don't like keeping it on the street since Ann Arbor drivers are terrible. The ramp is a pay per hour, but the trick is to remove it on weekends when parking is free. There is no time limit. It's what kept my friend's car in a Chicago Transit Authority P&R ramp for 3 years when he was off in college lol. Anyone else going back to school or moving somewhere and ditching the car for awhile?

Nikon Lens Discussion
Hmm, so are you saying you'd have image corruption right on the card? Here was my problem. I saved a batch of NYC photos on my computer's hard drive from my Nikon. I also had brought my smaller more compact Cannon along and took pictures in Philly. Both cities were in the same folder. I have a bad hard drive on my laptop so I backed them up on an external fortunately. Later on, the photos in that folder got corrupted and I got a ton of CRC messages. I noticed the canon photos didn't get messed up, but the Nikon ones did. It was almost as if Canon jpgs stood up better to the abuse than nikon photos. I guess it really doesn't matter if you back up your photos. But it's prevented me from saving on my computers hard drive. I also backed them up an additional external just in case my primary external hard drive fails. The rendering for my nikon photos on D40 that undergo a CRC error are gray instead of green. But I've seen them in all sorts of colors. Visible scanline render error of a corrupted image on my PC. What happens when you shut down improperly at least 600 times in your comps lifetime. Yeah, it can be caused a lot by cheap cards, but don't forget there's also people who pull their cards out of the camera without shutting off first. I knew this one guy who used to do that all the time and then get pissed off at his camera when he'd go to view them and some were messed up. I find the best way is to buy a high capacity, good quality memory card and use the firewire cable that comes with your camera to connect to the PC as opposed to using slots.

I know, I was literally picturing ye old country house sheathing on a highrise building. I actually wonder what is the tallest vinyl sided structure.

China: Developments and News
I'd hate being the engineer for Hadid. But I love her work. She really sets the bar for challenging designs.

Post a Screenshot of Your Desktop
^ I love that park! I know I got some pics of that, but they are probably not as nice as your's. Since my laptop is being replaced at Dell, all I have to show is my work computer, and my actual desktop! Yeah, I know the default hp desktop is kind of wack

Burj Dubai Photo taken on 8/8/08 (WOW)
I've made my decision that I do not like the Index Tower. It's still U/C and located right of the BD in the first photos. It's looks like Chase Tower here in the states. Except this one will have balconies I believe. I think regardless of whether the architecture is good or bad. It's a good test place for leading edge design. We can borrow what we like and build it here. Some buildings would fit well in our cities, other's wont.

I think around the 70's or 80's Chicago was looking at building a world trade center. The building was huge. Big and boxy. I believe it exceeded the Burj Dubai by height and shear volume. The terracing of the building masses was nice, but it was simply way too bulky. I think the Burj DB is far more graceful. But you could you imagine this ridiculously huge box tower on the Chicago skyline...dwarfing Sears which would be just over half as tall?

That green image reminds me of what I used to see when I saved images on my comp's broken hard drive. I'd get cyclic redundancy checks and they al looked like this LOL. Then I got smart and put them on an external hard drive.

Philadelphia
Dude, I'm just happy that city has buildings. Much love for Philly, even though I effed my ankle there on there. Don't ever walk on those steel sidewalk grates! They collapse!

Suburban families move their loved ones from Detroit cemeteries
Maybe frowned upon wasn't the correct word, but for a very long time it was advised to use traditional burial processes. It's permissible, but as you mentioned they are specific rules and guidelines.

Suburban families move their loved ones from Detroit cemeteries
For the sake of avoiding a huge religious debate. I agree, we will end it here now.

Additionally, there's a lot of US firms involved in other projects. My friend works in Chicago and is involved in the design process for a major airport out in the middle east. Design professionals and engineers are all from the US. Our firms get big bucks for these projects as opposed to US projects where they receive very little. Many of their projects out there are actually budgetless. As long as they countries continue to contract US firms, I'm happy.

Well, they did contract US firms for this as well. And in case you didn't notice, building has slowed here in the US, so I'm happy to say the Burj Dubai is responsible for retaining some hundred US jobs.

St. Joe, Indiana - Pickle Fest
It's that time of year again when all the towns have a fest for something. I recently went to a Cheeseburger fest lol. Anyway, I'm not a fan of pickles so I doubt I'll be in St. Joe. Nice photos though

That's what cremation is for. My parents have mentioned they have been thinking about that, but I'm always reminded of the scene in Meet the Parents lol. Problem is my family is Catholic, so I don't think they realize it's frowned upon.

I would have preferred this in Chicago over the spire, sans the wide base. It actually doesn't look as bad heightwise when viewed with other highrises clustered nearby. Things will fill in and this thing will blend with the rest of the skyline much like Sears and JH, IMO

Prince Charles attacks skyscrapers
I'm not a fan of London's highrise buildings. So I'd hate skyscrapers too. I don't know it's a difficult topic for me to decide. There are times when I like new highrise architecture and times when i hate it. Parts of London look like the shelf of my medicine cabinet....as does Dubai.

Website I made
Building this particular website....approximately 100 hours. Done entirely from scratch. There were other concepts and work done along the way throughout the summmer, but this was built in just over two and a half weeks.
