Beautiful well kept houses. Great thread!

Tampa
Tampa would be nice if they would fill in all those parking lots around the downtown. It's trying to be like downtown Detroit.

Detroit- Delray
There is a plan to entirely flatten Del Ray and build a bridge. Everything you see in Zach's photos will no longer exist.

Roommates
Here's Hayward's top 9 things I can't stand I actually get along with all of mine pretty well, but there's a few ridiculous things that bother me. 1. Placing objects in front of my door. My bedroom is right off the living room. The door is between two chairs. They place their computers and other expensive devices right in front of my door. Why, I have no clue. But I trip over them every morning or night when I walk out the door. 2. Playing music on a laptop While you are in the same room either watching tv or doing homework should be illegal. I HATE that tinny sound coming out of that speaker. What's worse is when they try to sing along and don't know the words. 3. Cutting hair in the sink. One of my housemate's hair has required us to have our sink plumbing replaced twice  4. Leaving dishes out This can actually be very hazardous to your health. It's actually far worse than an unflushed toilet. 5. Turning the heat up right when you get home. We realize you are cold, but we aren't 6. Stomping down the stairs. You are clearly coming down the stairs. 7. Interfering with my television experience. Don't walk into the room and start scrolling through tv guide menus, taking half of the show out of the picture. 8. Just walking into your room without knocking I love when they say "Oh, I didn't realize you were here" which makes them even more guilty. 9. Permitting friends to become roomates We all have the same circle of friends, and it's okay if people stay a night or two. But when they stay over and just won't leave for weeks it's a problem. Two of my friends have just moved in because their high rise apartment flooded, and they tend to eat a lot, and not pay for it. It's clear they won't be leaving for awhile.

Cloverfield: 1-18-08
Alright since people have seen it now, here's what I didn't like. First off, let me say the special effects were superb. So good that I feel horrible for the people who had their work spoiled by the hand held camera premise. They could have showed more news footage, or perhaps a few stable camera shots, but everything was sweeping back and forth, it became obnoxious. I hated the character Hudson, whos obnoxious voice annoyed me through the whole movie. The effects made the movie worthy to see. If you like to see stuff get blown up, go see it. Otherwise, it was like watching a youtube video with moderately good acting. I don't care if that was the point of the movie of it all being based off of what someone filmed. It was obnoxious.

CHICAGO - Cabrini Green
I've been documenting this neighborhood for a very long time, but I'm posting photos I have handy. The transformations in this neighborhood are so amazing, you might just want to live here. Cabrini Green is a neighborhood located just west of downtown Chicago. Filled with numerous highrise housing projects, the neighborhood is notorious for crime and gang activity. At its peak, the neighborhood had 15,000 residents, but is now down to about 5,000. Most of the highrise buildings have already been demolished to make way for townhomes and midrise condo buildings. I was very fortunate to get some shots of the last few standing because this housing project was HUGE. It will be a mixed income community which means that units will sell at regular market prices to those who can afford them, while costs will be subsidized for low-income families and former residents of the projects. It may sound strange to some that a wealthy young professional is willing to buy a townhome in a neighborhood with such troubled history, especially when his or her townhome shares a wall with former residents of public housing. However, ALL of the units sold out before they were even built. The gates have closed on the last of "The Reds" of the Cabrini Green Housing projects. 929-939 N. Hudson, nicknamed "The Headquarters" Front of Headquarters The brown line in the background acts as a psychological barrier between Cabrini Green and Gold Coast/River North neighborhoods Demolition of 1015-1017 N. Larrabee aka "The Boulevard" Front of the Boulevard Front of the Boulevard 2 years ago Back of the Boulevard this past summer. Shiny new condos stand in the background. New townhomes now house former residents of public housing projects that once stood in their place. A much brighter image for an area that has had a dark past.

CHICAGO - End of the Red Line, Howard
Boooooo suburbanites! I can't blame them though. Sometimes the CTA can be tiring, no matter the distance.

CHICAGO - End of the Red Line, Howard
I have two friends who've grown up there, and one of my college friends had an apartment there. 1.5 - 2 hours? Never! Taking the El downtown shouldn't take longer than 30-35 minutes from Howard. Taking the purple line express during commute times is even faster. When I worked at a firm in Evanston, the commute from Main to downtown at the very longest during a delay took about 40 minutes. Too drive that, it would take about 25 minutes, but then you have to deal with parking downtown. The neighborhood overall is pretty safe. It's just had some rough times in the past and is beginning to recover.

CHICAGO - End of the Red Line, Howard
We've already had a Rogers Park thread here on Urban Ohio, so I figured I'd post pictures of the North-most section of Rogers Park near the Howard Street station. I was waiting to pick up my friend who lives nearby, so I decided to take some pictures within a 2 block area. Looking towards the CTA station One of my favorite buildings So my friend says this used to be a theater, but they demoed everything but the facade, and put a retail structure behind that. Looking East down Howard, near a recently built shopping mall. Across from the mall on Howard is this new apartment tower. Residents have a mixed opinion of it. Artist's rendition of the tower. This renovated loft building sits at the corner of the massive mall parking lot. However, its close proximity to shopping and the CTA line make it a good place to live. The court was an ice rink Now for some apartments and walk-up buildings

MayDay's Holiday Trip Part I (Orlando, Florida and Freeport, Bahamas)
Very cool. It's amazing how the cruise ships themselves appear as high rises off in the distance.
