  1. I agree, the HDR adds a whole new quality to the photographs. I've been meaning to try it, but I guess it's kind of complicated. I heard new cameras will have an HDR feature soon, so no more photoshop merging.
  2. I'd like to send you all link to some amazing photography in Detroit, by Ryan Southen who is currently a college student. I've seen some amazing pictures of the D, but his work is jaw dropping. Check them out here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/southen/

I'm actually switching out of architecture into urban planning. Or shall I say, I'm getting a bachelors in architecture and a masters in urban planning. But I currently have a job in architecture (in fact I've lied to my boss for over a year now that I'm going to grad school in architecture for fear they will no longer invest in me). I don't know, you say you don't want to be a GIS freak, but to tell you the truth, you don't want to be a CAD monkey at an architecture firm either lol. The good thing is, if you choose to continue your education in another field, you will become more well rounded academically and it could open some doors a bit higher up on the job market. If you want my own personal opinion on architecture, I'm currently working at an architecture firm that does some higher end stuff. I've had the opportunity to actually work in the design phases of some buildings, including a hotel conference center I designed the exterior for, but really who cares. It's all overrated, but that's just what I feel What matters is you enjoy the job you get, you feel your position is stable, and you don't get too stressed.

Just thought I'd mention, there are ads played for the University of Toledo on most of the local radio stations up here in Michigan.
  5. Very cool. I love the bridge.
  6. ------.....?
  7. Why is this such an issue in the south? It seems like everywhere else the police don't give a crap what you photograph. I mean, I've taken pictures under the Ambassador bridge in Detroit and border security and police just drove right past without caring. (not that I was doing anything bad, I just think the bridge is cool).
  8. I met ColDayMan in an abandoned building in downtown Detroit. He was eating Church's chicken and telling me of this website he started. So I joined, yeah. Well, the story is somewhat true!

These abandoned hospitals always creep me out, same with mental hospitals. Great pictures though, you really captured the light in these spaces beautifully.
  11. Thought I would post a few random shots that really dont fit anywhere in a photo thread. Sorted by city SAGINAW, MI (Where I grew up) Back of some old buildings. My friends and I used to play basketball here, and now the hoop is gone :-( Vacant warehouse. This building mystified me as a child. I would pass it on a daily basis and always wondered why I could see through the building on the 5th, 6th, and 7th floors. Finally a year ago I got in and found out why, because the floors are gone! 303 Adams warehouse Zilwaukee Bridge. A 1.3 miles long, 125 foot high-level, concrete bridge that carries I-75 over the Saginaw river and some industrial areas. It is the major connector of the Michigan Tri-Cites area. The bridge was finished 5 years later, but has had periodic problems since. It is set to close in 2011 Beneath the bridge. DETROIT Exterior of Michigan Central Station. Closed in 1987 Upper floor of the station (the least damaged) Concourse. This is a shocking image to compare to a video on youtube which showed the this exactly 20 years ago. 12. Awesome photos and awesome houses! I wish I would have actually gotten out and seen the houses closer up last time I was there. You really captured a lot of them well.

Straight, and now completely single! I was starting up a relationship but it really didn't work out. Hmmm, I guess urbanohio.com isn't the place to pick up girls since the poll only shows 5 so far!

Here's the subdivided house I live in. It's amazing how they can cram 6 apartments, each with a living room, bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen all into this house. I'm up on the second floor. Seeing this picture makes me glad its sunny and 65 out right now.

Looks a lot like Bay City.
  21. Okay, I promised some more. I couldn't last more than 6 days in Michigan, so I drove back to the Chi for some more! Here's a teaser for what is next to come. Original: http://flickr.com/photos/70205638@N00/418649067/ Click ALL SIZES beneath the title to view it at 4000 x 1024.

God, 5 more weeks of this crap and I graduate. I decided to be a bit organized and move my work to makeshift table instead of the floor.

ColDayMan, evening. I look better in this image. It was a light week of homework.

And you definitely aren't a morning person. Beware of the ColDayMan scold. I have to admit though, I feel madder and grumpier ever since my last year of architecture school. Fortunately, I got accepted into grad school in Michigan's Urban Planning program so I can end the sleepness nights of CADing. Although I must admit, I've had a good time working in the professional world.
  25. My manual settings were actually broken, alot of these were taken on Auto. So technically any of you can do these. Just make sure you use a tripod or set it on something solid.
