College Hill - Charmingly Ugly
Great pics. It's not too ugly...

Detroit
I use a half working Canon S2 1S. It still takes pretty good photos but the manual switch doesn't work. The first picture was actually photoshopped heavily as well. There's no shadows you will notice so it kind of looks CG. I need to file my insurance claim yet, so I can get a new camera soon.

Detroit
^ My finished model of Detroit. We architecture students work hard as hell  Here's another strange photoshop edit. This image was going to get thrown out, but I instead did a bunch of random effects on it, and for some reason it made it to flickr's most interesting page, and is also featured on several Detroit related websites.

iPod: Work Aid or Distraction?
I listen to my iPod at work all of the time. 8 hours straight of hiphop and R&B. If I don't have it there, I open up pandora.com. Usually everyone at my architecture firm listens to their ipod. Any conversation with other employees is done via an internal online messaging system, so it's not like communication throughout the workplace is dead, just less personal. I think it improved my productivity. I guess because you tune everything out, you need to be focused and working because you never know when your boss could be staring over you shoulder or something. iPods are big here on campus like they are at all colleges, and I'm not surprised that this trend will be perpetuated in the workplace as well.

NEW YORK CITY - MayDay takes Manhattan, Part II
I went to mass there a few times, and at one of them I got deputized to take up the collection. Although it was flawless, it scared the heck out of me being in such a big church. I didn't go to mass there for awhile after :-(

Lafayette, Indiana [Part 1]
It's been awhile since I was in Lafayette last, but I remember how many beautiful historic buildings it had. My favorite building though is that yellowish brick and limestone building with the green cornice.

Detroit
^ That's not a good thing to do in the hood though. It would raise properties values, and you know what nearby residents might do.....

Detroit
Hope you don't mind me posting a few pics here Zach. I was helping a friend do a study on transit in tha D. Because we procrastinated we weren't downtown until around 7. You know it! Hayward's a balla and carries $20's and $100's, he has no quarters. The study should be simple....no one was riding that night!

Detroit
The area where my friends and I purchased a house had contaminated soil. So don't eat anything from Detroit's East side.

Hayward + Flint
Closed in '92? So I guess when I played there the stadium really wasn't in operation. I mean, portions of it were literally destroyed.

Hayward + Flint
Thanks for the excellent info scottr. You've helped me learn a lot about the city as well. My hometown is actually Saginaw, MI which is about 25 minutes north for those who don't know. While I've always been close to Flint, it's a city I've never really learned much about. The vivid images in my head from the Flint of the past was when I played football in highschool, we had a playoff game in Atwood Stadium. I remember the heavy industry nearby. The stadium was in pretty horrible shape then. Parts were closed off because of structural weaknesses, but the field was brand new. I've heard there will be improvements to the stadium, which is wonderful.

Hayward + Flint
I used to really hate Flint, MI. Because everytime I go there it is very depressing. Just a few years ago, I remember the river was crowded with factories, now they are all gone. Just south of the downtown is a massive industrial wasteland of open concrete and broken down warehouses. But little by little, the bad areas are filling in with new development. The downtown is already seeing some significant changes, but there is still a long way to go. If there was one city to choose in Michigan that needs the most help, it is Flint. By far, it has lost the most jobs/population. Hopefully the large amount of redevelopment that has occurred downtown will continue, but it only will if new jobs will come. I was on my way back to Ann Arbor, so I figured for once I'd stop and take some pictures. Unfortunately, it was getting late, my camera was set on auto, and the roads were icy. So I was in constant motion taking these pictures. I figured to make them post-worthy, they would need to be photoshopped a bit. Especially the blurry ones. Hope you enjoy. Hamilton! - Gallery 14 - Historic Images of City Life and Atmospheres
Wow, some incredible buildings in there. These are the kind of photos that make me envy my grandparents for experiencing a more positive and beautiful time for cities. Thanks for posting these.

NEW YORK CITY - MayDay takes Manhattan, Part II
Excellent shots. I'm digging the closeups of the detailwork. Did you take any pictures of the foodcourt in the lower level of GCS? I miss that place a lot. When I spent a summer out there, I used to eat in that food court. Good selection of non-fast food like restaurants with reasonable prices.

Lexington, Kentucky by Sherman Cahal
I love these pictures of the city, but I also like your photography. I don't know if its the sky you are getting into the shots or what, but your second to last parking lot shot is actually kind of cool, and I'm not sure why I like it so much.

Sad to think a couple nice towers once stood next to this one ^^

Video of Towers Collapsing
I've been planning on uploading my architecture portfolio to my flickr sometime soon. Currently its filled with a few random projects... some are on the main page. http://flickr.com/photos/70205638@N00/ My group right now is working on our tower. We have six people which is over the suggested 4, and we are all arguing about its size and shape. We'll have to see how this one goes!

Video of Towers Collapsing
I think it's the person holding the camera that is doing most of the screaming, lol. Apparently the girl at the end of the video falls off the ladder, too bad the video doesn't go just a bit longer.

Video of Towers Collapsing
For my structures course in the University of Michigan architecture program, there is a project each year where students have to build towers out of thin baswood sticks. The towers are then loaded with weights to see how much they can hold up. My groups project will be due in a few weeks, but on the course website they posted a video compilation of the towers being destroyed from last year  Its all carnage, and kind of fun to watch. Here is the link: http://www.structures.tcaup.umich.edu/project/ARCH324_towers_compilation.mov

San Diego Nightlife (20 pictures)
The hotel was very nice. As far as the noise, I didn't notice. Our room did overlook the roofdeck. Then again when I got back to the hotel room, I pretty much just passed out. But the rooms are very nice. Very bold contemporary colors too. I have some pictures of the lobby, but like I said they are buried on my hard drive somewhere. BTW, in the lobby they have these cool stones you can draw on with water.

San Diego Nightlife (20 pictures)
We actually stayed at the hotel in the top picture. The rooftop area is really nice. But yeah, no tripod. It was all the camera. It was about two weeks old by then so the image stablizer was at its best. Doesn't work all that great now though.

Lorain High - R.I.P.
Wow, the way those additons were added are crazy. Makes you wonder what they were thinking back then.
