The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
Sorry, WR, this isn't about you. The problem is that there are a metric crapload of awful lists promulgated by websites and periodicals who have an interest in attracting readers/viewers. One of the best (and cheapest) ways of doing this is by developing rankings of cities. Doesn't take much time, since all that is required is the development of a methodology that may appear reasonable and the work of some lackey. No interviewing required or actual followup. Sometimes, one will come across a good, well-researched list that actually has a basis in reality. But usually, the list exists just to benefit its creator. CareerBuilder wants to get folks to look at their site, obvs.

The Official *I Love Cleveland* Thread
I personally ignore all of those stupid lists, but you know that somebody will forget the guidelines in order to post the latest missive from Forbes*, thereby annoying everybody. Contacting Forbes will give them the satisfaction of knowing that somebody is reading their rubbish. But, I do sympathize with both of these notions. I like the "Stupid City Ranking" thread idea. *My prediction: Worst Cities for Hemorrhoid Sufferers.

The Effect of a Cleveland Championship on the City's Psyche
Did you really sign up on this forum just to start this thread? Anyway, this "discussion" is best left in this here thread: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,18845.0.html By the bye, I feel no shame whatsoever. Sorry.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
No, no. The "CLE" is part of "San CLEmente". LeBron's going to be a Clipper. The problem is that the truth isn't as compelling a narrative as the sob-story being offered by Fratello. I LOVED the charge that LeBron took. What heart!

Help a New Yorker find a great Cleveland neighborhood
I don't know about "a lot", but many folks in Cleveland (esp OC and Tremont) do bike. The two main bridges across the Cuyahoga (Detroit-Superior and Lorain-Carnegie) include bike lanes. Very few streets are marked for bike lanes, but I've never had a problem with cars while riding in the street. And, I can't believe MTS isn't pushing his neighborhood harder, so I'll do it for him. Do check out living on Shaker Square. You'll be on both the Green and Blue Lines, and the Square itself includes a full grocer's, a drug store, lots of other shops, a coffeehouse, and several good restaurants with bars. I prefer Sarava, but the other ones are quite nice as well.

Downtown Indianapolis, part 1
To me, Indianapolis is very nice, but other than its fairly decent blues scene, the city seems culturally barren. Honestly, although I've been there several times, it never left much of an impression with me. Pleasant folks, though.

Cleveland Area TOD Discussion
1. While the architect was approved, the design is still in process. 2. Don't recall, but there was an extensive planning process, so I do believe that other proposals were suggested. 3. The plan doesn't interfere with the adjacent projects. In fact, it complements them. In brief: the 120th St. rebuild will take place, the entrance will be on Mayfield, it is helping move adjacent development on both sides of the tracks, and it is already in the RTA capital budget for completion in Spring 2012. Alas, it will likely be after you graduate, but you can stick around the city a bit longer if you wished.

Cleveland Area TOD Discussion
MTS, it's time to load up on the decaf; ccars was just expressing his opinion that the E120th station is unsafe, and backed it up with personal experiences that were backed up by the Good Doctor. Maybe there was some hyperbole, which I am sure you can recognize, Mr. "Ain't nothin' in Ohio south of the Turnpike". ccars, don't mind MTS. He likes to bite newbies. (EDIT: I didn't say that he only liked to bite newbies.)

Help a New Yorker find a great Cleveland neighborhood
I've lived in both Ohio City (1999-2002) and Tremont (2002-present), and can vouch for most everything that has been said. However, I am partial to Tremont, so I'd like to mention a couple of things regarding transit and availability of services. In addition to the 81, there is also the 23, which also runs to Downtown, and the 807 community circulator, which only runs until 6 throughout the week. The 81 and the 807 head to or near the West Side Market and Dave's (on Carroll off of 25th), but it is true that Ohio City has more access to the grocers. The 81 also runs south (kind of a big secret among Tremonters who think the world ends south of Clark Ave. ;-) ) and gives you access to the CVS and Aldi on Pearl, just south of I-71. Really, though, you're dealing with Buridan's ass when it comes to choosing between the two, so just decide based on the nicest place you and your partner can find. Also, get yourselves bikes if you don't have them already. Every RTA bus and train accommodates bicycles, and there are enough bike shops (Fridrich's in Ohio City, Shaker Cycle in Tremont, Ohio City Bike Coop between the two) to cover you. Also, I utterly second Gateway Animal Clinic; they are the best.

Scenic Route from Cincinnati to Cleveland
If you have time, as you are coming up Riverview Road from Akron to Cleveland, take one brief 1000 ft. detour. Merriman will turn into Riverview as you cross Portage Path. Drive another 2.5 miles up Riverview and turn right on W. Bath Road (right after you pass the water treatment facility on your left. yeah, I know.). Look to your left (about 1000 ft. east of Riverview on Bath) and there will be a pull-off lane on the north side of the street. Park, get out of your car, and look south at one of the largest great blue heron rookeries anywhere. It's the middle of hatching season, so there will be a ton of adult birds and some chicks that are just emerging.

Cleveland: Retail News
Boy, has this here thread gone off of the rails. Why aren't more folks going to Richmond Mall when it's the closest enclosed mall to Cleveland Hts? That's easy: - All enclosed malls are doing poorly, save for those that are regional draws, such as Beachwood Place. - Enclosed malls are now competing with strip centers (like Severance and Golden Gate and University Square). There is nothing that you can buy in Richmond that you can't in one of these other places. - NE Ohio is insanely over-retailed. - The internet. Read more about it here: http://planning.co.cuyahoga.oh.us/retail/ It's nine years old now, but most everything in it still reads true.

Cleveland: Downtown: East 4th Street Developments
I'm going to take this a little bit off-topic (sorry, moderators, but this might help in the long-run) just so we don't stray further... 327, despite the revenues that government entities receive, almost all of it is encumbered in current budget to pay salaries, existing projects, etc. Municipalities and other entities do not possess the large pools of capital that are available to lending institutions. Any monies available for investment are usually put into more secure mechanisms. What gov't can do is use the funds they do have to leverage private lending, which they do already. So, no: gov't can't (and shouldn't) finance projects themselves. For something as large as the redevelopment of that parking lot (about the size of the Key Tower block), you need a bank (or two, or three , or more). Shorter answer: take a public development finance course so you can understand this better.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
If I recall correctly (and I visited the Cleveland Anatolia Cafe many times when they first opened in Cedar Center), while the CLE and COL restaurants are not longer linked, the CLE joint was started by folks coming up from the COL place. They've diverged since then, but were certainly joined at the hip early on.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
I don't think that Avon Lake is a bad location at all for Symon's joint. In fact, I rather see it as a "My First Lola: By Kenner" inasmuch as folks who may not normally venture into Downtown or Tremont will get introduced (gently) to his food and may be enticed to try something more daring.

CLEVELAND - Praise Be...
Since I'm somebody who actually attends mass on a regular basis, let me take this opportunity to dispel your notion. If you look at who is in the pews in a Catholic church in the city (including, but not limited to St. Peter's, St. Augustine, and St. Malachi), who you will see will be a mix of folks in their 20s and 30s, some boomers, and seniors. If you go into a church out in the 'burbs, you'll see families headed by parents in their 40s and 50s, some seniors, and not a whole lot of young adults. Man, if you are going to be expressing your opinions on such a regular basis, at least make them informed. (On preview: Dammit, Prok: it would be helpful if you didn't contradict me before I expressed my view. Also, I'm really sad about your friends. Most all of my friends adore living in pre-war homes and neighborhoods.)

Cleveland: Innerbelt News
Well, yeah. The innerbelt bridge is a whopping 4000 feet long while the Tacoma Narrows Bridge is a measly 2 miles long and the Lake Washington Bridge is ONLY 1.8 miles. DUDE, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
