  2. Who decided the boundaries for the DDP? Can't they be expanded?
  3. .....and you are doing a good job!
  4. Your plans are soooooo much better than what is proposed. Since the City of Dayton is involved in this development, I don't understand why they aren't forcing Kroger to develop a more urban approach to the design...especially since they did it in Louisville. Let's hope the city gets it act together with Ballpark Village!
  5. Exactly. There's another opportunity to do a cool "urban" style development and instead it sounds like another set of large one story buildings surrounding a sea of asphalt. If Dayton wants to attract people they need to start doing things differently.
  6. You're probably right, but I just wish for once somebody in Dayton would have the courage to "think outside the box". If Kroger really wants to build a store there, I'm sure the city could have negotiated some sort of revised plan; but the city is probably so happy that some kind of development is going on that they will settle for whatever they can get.
  7. The layout is terrible. It looks like any standard suburban development. Since the City of Dayton is involved in this project, you would have thought that they could have forced the developer to do a more "urban" style of design. Why not put the Kroger store along Wayne Ave. with a parking garage on top. There is Whole Foods here in Philly on the edge of Center City like that. Another is planned that will have an underground garage.

I grew up in Dayton so I've heard this story for nearly 40 years. The story is this: After the alien spacecraft(s) crashed at Roswell, NM in the late 1940s, the government transfered the dead alien bodies to Wright-Patterson AFB (then known as Wright Field). Supposedly they have been in Hangar 18 since. The History Channel show claimed that there is a secret network of underground tunnels on the base to move things around in case someone starts snooping. The old 70s show "In Search Of" did a program on it as well. No one has ever produced any real evidence that they exist but it's always been an urban legend in Dayton. In the early 1990s I was working as a traffic engineer in Dayton and my company had a job to do a traffic study on the base. When we met with the Base Engineer to discuss the scope, he had a map of the base and was pointing our different buildings and at one point said "..and here's where the alien bodies are!" He was joking... or was he?!?

I grew up in Dayton, well Trotwood actually, and lived there till I was 27. I even went to the University of Dayton. I've lived in Philly (Ardmore) for the past 13 years but my Mom still lives in the Dayton area.

Great website, but I think the link to the Wright-Dunbar neighboorhood website is incorrect. According to Preservation Dayton's site, Wright-Dunbar's is www.wright-dunbar.org
  11. Nice pics. I grew up in Dayton and lived there until I was 27. The city has much potential but they just can't seem to get their act together.
