Columbus: Downtown: Discovery District / Warehouse District / CSCC / CCAD Developments and News
Toddguy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionDoesn't that kind of seem like the go to for demolitions now..."structurally compromised/unsafe/unstable"? And if they actually are it is usually absent owners who let the buildings sit vacant and deteriorate anyways-a sort of planned pre-destruction. Back to the Pizzuti project, they should get a legal agreement with the developer to build within a certain time, or no demolition for a parking lot. Not downtown.

Big Darby Accord Region: Developments and News
God knows that they need housing in this area, and the more affordable the better. I just want to see them complete the housing section as well(they always do the apts. and then the SFH's come much later it seems.) With all the people working in West Jeff and no new housing, maybe some of the workers out here can live a bit closer. Most seem to be streaming in from Columbus anyway. Little West Jeff now has a real hour/traffic problem with the commuting workers coming through to work from Cbus. Why they are waiting on the 1,000 unit plus development off of 40 and 142 I do not know. A Kroger Marketplace(or some such thing)was supposed to be coming too. Where is it all at? smh.

Big Darby Accord Region: Developments and News
Do you mean the area north of the Sunset Cemetery area/Murnan Rd.? That area is I believed being turned into a wetland/natural area. It has a ditch that flows north and then east into Hellbranch Run(the stream that flows under 40 between Alton and the cemetery. Otherwise I don't know of anything else. I think I brought it up in the general development thread and someone looked it up. Here is the discussion(if I am getting the right area you are talking about): -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://forum.urbanohio.com/topic/43-columbus-random-development-and-news/page/41/#comments Also the area around Clover Groff ditch north of Broad where the streambed was "naturalized" and is supposed to be a 40 plus acre park/preserve has already been invaded by Callery Pear trees. I could see the little tufts of white flowered small trees scattered all over. Those things are really getting invasive and you can really see it right now when they are blooming. Otherwise in this greater area there seems to be no action on the planned development in West Jeff along 40 east of 142(just pipes and stuff that have been laying there forever) and the apts. at Doherty and Broad(next to the Galloway Kroger)are done, but nothing on the part where houses are supposed to go.

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
Not to make this too personal but I really am wondering since I have become one of those people who has leg issues(genetic of course so nothing they can do)which makes standing/walking very much difficult and painful at times. Now if I could bring a bike and ride and park that, no problem. The problem is the weight/pressure on my feet, not on my significantly pandemic-increased butt lol. I imagine they have bike racks? I could lazily bike along with the crowd as they walked. I am actually planning to get my butt to a game. I want to go!

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
I was really asking for the people with the mobility issues. Everyone else should be able to walk the short distance really. As long as those people have some kind of accommodation(like a drop off or something?) then it should be fine. A quarter mile walk for most people is not a big deal unless there is some kind of really God -awful weather and though we complain about ours, we rarely have that issue to any kind of extreme. *Many could use the exercise-it may be all some get lol.

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
Thanks. I think they should have something though...even if only a very limited type of service. How are the accommodations for people who may not be able to walk too far, but have no problem sitting?(such as people with significant lower leg/foot problems)? LOL!

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
I know they talked about having shuttle busses to go from the stadium to the garage district around Front street. Is that still a thing? That way people would not really have to walk that far at all. Are the shuttles still a thing, anyone?.

Columbus: Downtown: Hilton Columbus Downtown Tower II
Just wait until we get to ogle the North Market Tower. And if we get another 500 footer plus, forget about it-More viewing/pics than Marilyn, and Betty Grable and Rita Hayworth during the war combined. We have been starved for tall Cbus building p0rn. Also don't forget the OSU Medical tower-we love us some tall elevator shaft p0rn! lol.

Urban Trees
I have a semi-dwarf fruiting pear tree blooming now and it has never had a bad smell. I have also been around the Callery pears when they are blooming(like right now)and I don't smell any bad smell for some reason. But I believe everyone else who says they stink. And the poster who mentioned the thorns was quite right-these wild kinds that come from the seeds are nasty like that. They are everywhere right now, blooming away. Some smaller abandoned plots of land out here are just nothing but Callery pears-they have crowded out everything else.

Columbus: Merion Village / Southside Developments and News
They could easily get 20 parking spaces including parking along Reeb. If these are studios with likely only one occupant and three bed units that are lower income with mothers with children, I doubt they would need to account for more than one space per unit. They could also align the 2 duplex units directly behind the existing building with a 20/25 foot courtyard between them and the back of the building, this courtyard extending to the greenspace behind the other two duplexes along Reeb. I mean this is very basic stuff-this is not rocket science here. I am glad to see the Southside Commission is opposed to the demolition.

Madison County: Developments and News
Great. But none of them in or near West Jeff, which has the greatest need for new housing given the thousands of new workers in the last 5 years. smh.

Columbus: Merion Village / Southside Developments and News
Oh for God's sake. Keep and renovate this nice existing old building into the one bedroom and studio apartments and build the other housing in another appropriate place. Why the hell are people so damn dense? What's up Gretchen? sheesh. Some people need to shoot some emails to Nationwide about this. The existing building actually has some character-much more than the probable cheap thing they want to replace it. I mean really, just what the hell? *There is no other site within a reasonable distance of the Learning Center? Does this mean impossible to make into housing for small families or what? They cannot incorporate the existing building-with this being a Nationwide/Children's Hospital supported thing? They can spend literally billions on the hospital but they need to wreck this building? Damn they just want to knock down every damn thing it seems.

Columbus: Driving Park / Southern Orchards / Southeast Side Developments and News
I admit there is really something about the Cube that I like. It has a sort of streamlined Art Deco look that I like. The front also looks like it could have some nice big-ass windows too. They should save the front Cube and just add another floor to a bigger new one behind/around it. The proposal is for 4 story buildings. They could go to 5 with no big changes I believe. I think at 6 floors the ground floor has to be non-residential per codes? *I can hear it now though..."the building is unstable and cannot be saved because of X, Y, and Z partly due to it being abandoned and left to decay for years......"

Newark: Developments and News
Toddguy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionHow is downtown Newark doing? I admit I do not know much about it, but is it in a state or condition to allow it to grow with new residential and densify with Intel coming? It seems that it might be a nice alternative for people looking for an urban node but on a smaller scale than Cbus or something like Easton? What nearby neighborhoods might be attractive to new people coming in? Is there a nearby neighborhood next to downtown that is, well, more "upscale"(not saying that is better than working class or anything)that could sort of stretch out and connect downtown with outlying "upscale" neighborhoods? Something like Cbus has with High street? Again not saying this is better than something else, but this type of situation is where the development dollars usually go. It is what it is. Also what is the housing situation like? Especially more affordable housing?

Urban Trees
If you own your property, it might be a good idea to get rid of it. It is almost certainly a Callery pear and they are an invasive species that, as noted in a post above, is about to be banned. I see them everywhere now when they are blooming-entire fields are covered with them. They do not contribute much to the environment and outgrow and crowd out native species. *stinking white flowers mean it is almost certainly a Callery pear. They are also not nice trees as they are not particularly long lived and usually have weak branch attachments and angles and can be torn up in storms. They often have a symmetrical appearance and the storm damage therefore disfigures them. Unfortunately, these trees have been planted everywhere in Ohio.

HB 616 ("Don't Say Gay" / CRT Bill)
LOL! I am going to search for it now...maybe youtube? Which Pinko/Commie sang this among the list of famous Pinko/Commies listed like Cicely Tyson, Roberta Flack, Rosey Grier and Carol Channing? lol Off to search. BTW it was sneak-reading my mother's Cosmopolitan magazine that made me realize what I was. And here people have been thinking that playing with Barbies is the gateway to homosexuality!(I never played with them unless my little girlfriend wanted to destroy hers-we usually melted them lol)

HB 616 ("Don't Say Gay" / CRT Bill)
I never saw anything like this*edit-unfortunately. Not in school at any time including High School. And the latter time was 40 years ago.

HB 616 ("Don't Say Gay" / CRT Bill)
Well what about the ones who are not "innocent"(as if one is than they must be "not innocent" and somehow "tainted"?) I knew I was gay at 6 years old. I had a crush on two boys in my first and second grade classes(hope you don't see this Lynn Smith or Mike Cottrill lol). Having knowledge that some people have two mommies or two daddies and that gender identity is a thing does not male someone no longer "innocent".

Columbus: Driving Park / Southern Orchards / Southeast Side Developments and News
Apparently the 'thing that will be done to it" will be demolition. :( They should at least try to save the front facade. I know I know people we need affordable housing, but does it have to look like...that? This. And I usually want color...but not this mess.

^^ It does seem quiet. Not as many announcements or not very many people commenting, or both? The Cleveland forums seems to be very active lately.

Urban Trees
My brother had all ash trees in his yard and he lost them all. The one at the home I grew up at is still there-it has some resistance somehow. I have also seen a huge number of dead and dying pines and spruce-don't know if it is climate change related or what. The biggest problem is we are losing way more urban/suburban trees than are being planted to replace them. It is particularly galling to me to see old established neighborhoods with alleys and back garages and homes over 100 years old bare, naked of trees and stripped of greenery except for the ecological disaster that is called lawn.

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
If they don't build it, nobody will be able to live here without paying outrageous rents. They have been underbuilding for years! Someone make it stop! YOU must do something! lol. Tell them you are leading a horde in from Mexico to Central Ohio! And they all have money and need homes(not all luxury damn it)and apartments. * that was a weird movie to me, but I liked it. *And good riddance to OT at AWF.

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
It means they are chomping at the bit to get this going so everyone(including builders of housing units)who is not blind can see this IS happening and the housing needs to also start NOW don't wait-it is coming for sure. McMansions in the exurbs, dense infill in places like Easton and in Cbus, Newark as well, not to forget some residential towers downtown...c'mon now developers...it is happening. If they are going this fast for the first two fabs just wait until the other 80 billion comes in...don't miss out! Russia has shown we need to have better supply chains and be in control of more of our input and output-this is only going to push forth the creation of the great Silicon Heartland! The people are coming! and more will come, and then more, and even more, and you want housing to rent and sell to them right? Got to think positively lol.
