  1. The time is now to really start developing Easton as a dense mixed use urban node! Look at what is happening in the World-the attack on Ukraine has to make Taiwan nervous. This should make US production even more important. They really should be proactive with this.

Because he is a political prostitute? Just throw them all away, somewhere off the planet.
  3. I believe they went away for a short while-I checked over there and the comment section was missing on the articles...but it is back just like it used to be. I looked at some of the recent comments and they were not that bad at all, surprisingly. Many of the usual miscreants and reprobates were not commenting.
  4. Unfortunately the comments are back. Jman has been resurrected smh.
  5. I love this! Build it has quickly as possible! The renderings sort of make it look like it is "THE center" of the Short North-it looks like it will have a nice commanding presence. The hotel they are planning right across from OSU on the plaza should be more like this in height and massing-something that makes a statement. I mean if we are going to be the silicon heartland and all, we need to step up. Just sayin. *I would like this even more if the Hubbard street facade was the High street facade.
  6. From what I saw on the list...OSU is around 22nd in the US and 37th in the entire World. 37th out of 100 is hardly a "fairly low ranking" and more like "in the middle". Just sayin'. 37th in the entire World is 'fairly low'? And on a list of 100 at that? ???
  7. Someone let us know when this starts breaking ground...I may want to go down and check it out in person...whale surfacings are rare in Central Ohio-don't want to miss it! *I may want to show up with a sign supporting this development and just walk around so the German Villains can see it lol.
  8. Whatever it is or is going to be, it is looking good with the new windows. It amazes me how wrong, and also how right, developers can be when renovating existing buildings. And when they get it right it is a good thing to see.
  9. They need to raise the age limit to 18. That 15 year old Russian skater had a damn breakdown. And if something is "up", they have that fallback of "protected status" because they are underage-nobody deserves any special protection, and if they need it then they should not be participating. Russia is the worst but not the only one-the whole system especially in women's skating seems to be a mess-just assembly line production of skaters who are products with built in obsolescence when they hit 18 or 20.
  10. This proposal is very good and I love the increased height. But I wish they could just build two separate buildings and leave Alhambra Court like it is. Why do they have to have that back segment connecting the two?-could they just go higher with the building on the CVS parcel? I guess saving the front part is better than nothing, and I do like the height increase at least. I hope this gets done in some fashion or another.-and with a good design and good materials since it will be great visibility all round.
  11. This will be fantastic. That rooftop is nearly 350 feet up-the views!
  12. This was a Grand Opening, and a Grand Closing! lol on topic, people in the neighborhood should make a big fuss about this and demand more and better.
  13. So much of that stretch is hotel and retail(that caters to downtown workers)so I don't think that parking would really be an issue in this case. I think if there is one small stretch of roadway downtown that could be converted this is it.
  14. Please keep posts that are not related to Columbus population trends in the appropriate thread and not in this thread. Not our fault if other threads got closed. Thanks.

It seems to be on the edge of the Mississippi Delta and like the rest of it, has declined with agriculture/the cotton industry and has also suffered from white flight(less than 20% white population). None of the other cities in or on the edge of this area are doing well either. places like Monroe, LA and Poplar Bluff have also seen decline. The LA/AR/MS nexus is a low/no growth area.
  16. I don't know how people do it. Maybe if it pays enough? I have no idea of how much these construction jobs will pay? Newark is the obvious choice but I don't know how much housing is available there or anywhere really. What about Mansfield, Springfield, Mt. Vernon, Marion, Chillicothe, Zanesville, etc.-areas relatively close to or in Central Ohio that have not had much population growth and may have some excess housing, maybe some in need of rehabbing? I am not really sure about how much vacant or excess properties are available in those areas either. Maybe Dayton?-at least once you got on a freeway it would be mostly freeway and(at least sometimes)freeway speeds. 70 to 270 around to 161-at least avoiding DT Cbus. Where is our expert on data johoh81? I know we can forget about Madison County because despite the job growth here they have built very little housing. Probably do not want "the wrong people" moving here and all smh. That and the difficulties with the Darby Creeks and the Darby Accord and all. West Jeff has rush hours now with people streaming in and out to work at the warehouses and industries in the western sections. But no. new. housing. here. I bet there have been less than 100 new housing units in the last 25 years.
  17. Actually they both suck-they both appear to be based on estimates smh.
  18. So just when do people think Cbus will hit one million? Will the pandemic and WFH cause growth to shift outside of city limits? Some estimates for 2022: https://worldpopulationreview.com/us-cities/columbus-oh-population 921,605. https://www.populationu.com/cities/columbus-population#:~:text=Columbus is the largest city,is estimated to be 918%2C429. 918,429.
  19. Well there have been numerous posts in different Central Ohio threads about how people commute from other parts of Ohio. I had coworkers who commuted to Hilliard from Athens way back in the 90's so I can see people commuting from Springfield/Dayton, even parts of NEO until(or if)housing ramps up like it needs to. Personally I would die-just drop dead-with a 1-2 hour commute one way...but others seem to do it. Again housing construction really needs to pick up here as well.
  20. Another good question is where are all of these workers going to live?-we have been underbuilding for over ten years and should have many more homes and apartments available. Maybe they can live in other places in the state initially and commute? If they come they will be needed to build housing for themselves as well-which is why we need to encourage relatively affordable apartments and housing construction vs so much of the luxury housing that has been being built. Suburban zoning is exclusionary as all hell IMO.
  21. Sounds like Intel is the one causing the problems for the other facility and do we really face the same construction labor shortages that Arizona does given the very high growth in Arizona vs the relatively stagnant growth in Ohio and surrounding states? I would also think higher construction job wages(?) up here might take some workers from down south of here-assuming wages are lower in Tennessee, Flaw-duh, etc.?-I don't know about that for sure. If possible we need to start importing workers if needed from areas with wages that are lower(if there are any). The continuing(and probably accelerating)growth in businesses and population in Central Ohio would be a reason for them to not only come here, but to stay.
  22. Those banner like colored things along the fencing will likely be the most color this area sees. I wish they would adopt more color in some of the buildings. Even in the pic preceding this, the townhouse looking stuff at Rich and Green would look just a tad better with some blue, light yellow, and yeah, GREEN lol. A bit too much gray. It always seems like a bit too much of one color or another. They should strive to match what they did with the different colors of brick and panels in the River and Rich development. JMO of course.
  23. There should be several mini cities(including a built up Easton)stretching from downtown and environs to the Intel location(and maybe on to Newark and environs and all connected by mass transit. The time is now for the NE transit corridor connecting Downtown, JG airport, Easton, New Albany, etc. out to Intel and maybe even to Newark which might as well with it's suburbs double in population-why not if it is well positioned and well connected?
  24. This. People with disabilities and the elderly make up a disproportionate amount of those needing affordable housing. Have first floor flats for them and walkups above and you won't need the cost of elevators if you only go 3 floors or so. And with changing shopping habits it is nearly impossible to have ground floor retail along every part of every street-place it at the crucial points. *Even worse, the setback is nothing but lawn! Move them closer to the street and have a green strip in the back for gardening, kid's play equipment, anything but unused deadspace lawn.
  25. Exactly, especially since they are ripe for improved public transit options as well. So many neighborhoods will be opposed in general to things like this so at least for now the thing to do is build "nodes" of dense developments and link them with densified transit oriented corridors such as the ones you mentioned. It should be a city(and really a regional)effort. The troubled stripmall dominated post war corridors inside and outside the city limits should be included as well-it should not stop at the pre war 1950 borders of the city. Things like what happened to the Kroger at Ackerman and Olentangy River Rd. should be replicated-and with a good percentage of affordable housing included. Now how we get this ball rolling for affordable housing is beyond me. Do we have an 'Affordable Housing in Central Ohio" thread somewhere? A singular place to discuss this on here?
