Whitehall: Developments and News
Are they cutting the office portion down to get more residential or are they just adding more residential? It looks like they have the right attitude in Whitehall anyways.

Columbus: Crime & Safety Discussion
Columbus is up to 54 homicides and we are barely into April. Totally unacceptable! https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/crime/2021/04/08/three-more-gunshot-deaths-raise-columbus-homicide-total-54-mid-afternoon-thursday/7137318002/?itm_medium=recirc&itm_source=taboola&itm_campaign=internal&itm_content=BelowHomepageFeed-FeedRedesign

Columbus: Downtown: The Assembly (Former Kroger Bakery)
I noticed that too but I can't tell what it is...is it just something like a fancy skylight or something or is it something people will need to access via the rooftop? It looks like they could really have access to the roof given the taller parts sticking up on the existing buildings. Too bad they could not put a bar/lounge up there with access to an outdoor deck. There would be great afternoon and evening views.

Columbus: Merion Village / Southside Developments and News
They were everywhere and they had some really good and popular deli stuff. And yeah just like most retail buildings of the era, they were ugly. Reminds me of BBF's with the "whirling satellite" on top. Everybody's goin' to the BBF, and they're bringin' their appetite Everybody's goin' to the BBF, at the whirlin' satellite

Columbus: Downtown: The Assembly (Former Kroger Bakery)
Yeah it is mostly good news-especially given Covid-19 and everything else the last year. I think the windows area going to be huge in those existing buildings-maybe similar to The Julian(maybe not that big) or something?-lots of natural light. *It would be nice if the commission this goes before maybe makes a "recommendation" for a rooftop use to take advantage of those views?

Thanks for posting this-very interesting video.

Columbus: Downtown: The Assembly (Former Kroger Bakery)
It is not perfect IMO but could be much worse. Maybe they can be talked into adding a bit more to it? How does this compare to Jeffrey Park which is about 40 acres?-the equivalent would be 1800 units there I guess. The dog park looks a bit smaller on the map which really does not match up perfectly with the renderings. At least all of the surface parking(outside)is relegated to the perimeter to the north as you mention and it appears that at least a part of that will be under the buildings a bit. Too bad they cannot do more with the rooftops as well-the views would be great. Looks like the pandemic killed any real mixed-use ideas for place. Also they are going to have nearly 9,000 square feet of restaurant space per the article at CU-better than nothing I guess. And yes this is a weird area-reminds me of the "triangle" and adjacent parcels near Astor Park, but still having buildings about. *Also if they can put apartments this close to 670 here then they can do it in the northern section of Astor Park and the "triangle" parcels as well. Some of these buildings are very close to the elevated freeway-don't know if I would like that myself.

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
Seeing all of the cleared out land of the triangle and the section along Goodale makes me want to see something proposed for those areas. The grass patch along 33 and the railroad tracks has got to go too.

Columbus: Downtown: Discovery District / Warehouse District / CSCC / CCAD Developments and News
Toddguy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI really hope this is a surprise and turns out better than expected. I also was a bit shocked to see a 255 foot height for a 13 story structure. I wonder if that was an error? If not this thing will have quite an impact.

Columbus: Weinland Park Developments and News
If everything gets built that is proposed along with this and who knows what else that area is going to be very dense and thriving. And nary a peep from any NIMBY's to boot.

Columbus: OSU Medical Center Expansion
Toddguy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI know it must have been mentioned before, but what was the expected height of this again? And does that include the fin-like thing with the OSU on it at the top? Have we seen any diagrams showing the specific floor heights, etc. like we have for the Hilton Tower? And yeah, this thing is moving fast! OSU just does not play around when it comes to developments.

Columbus: German Village / Schumacher Place Developments and News
Toddguy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI am not sure, but I think much of it is related to "transients" as was stated by those people in Dublin against the apartment development there. Note that both of the big proposals in GV that have gotten the negative treatment are a hotel(transients) and an apartment complex(more transients). I think some of this anti-density pushback is really just classism and maybe even racism in disguise. They don't want "others"(and probably even more don't want "others of color")moving in unless they are wealthy enough to purchase a house or condo. Notice there was no pushback about the other development being changed to single family homes-that only wealthy people will be able to afford. I don't think classism is all of it, or even most of it, but it certainly is a part of it regarding Clintonville and German Village IMO. Many of these people are very privileged and entitled people with a mentality to match. *These people were already nutty-the boredom and pandemic is giving them time to express their crazy. ** You can see even in the commentary on much of this board*cough*current events*cough* that white wealthy privilege and entitlement(and the mentality that goes with it) is alive and well.

Columbus: Downtown: RiverSouth Developments and News
Toddguy replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI agree the building is not that great but it is the symmetry argument that gets me. I am used to it matching the other one on the other side of the Supreme Court building. If they did something to one, I would want them to do something to the other to match. I think the restaurant thing facing the river at the lowest floor is a good idea. Not sure about the rest-and yes it does have those tiny-@ss windows so I don't know how well that would work for residential? I think the base/lower floors could be worked with much more without having that symmetry with it's twin messed up too much. And just like the parking garage, it is really hard to think of this building as "historic".

Columbus: Downtown: RiverSouth Developments and News
Toddguy replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI am aware of this weird designation also. Leave it to Columbus to have a historically protected concrete parking garage...lol.

Toddguy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionOK this one seriously made me laugh. I vote for this one. At least nobody mentioned anything related to the Sperm Whale...

Columbus: German Village / Schumacher Place Developments and News
Toddguy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThere is absolutely nothing wrong with the proposed complex density or height wise. This development is not even in German Village so people like John and Regina should butt out. Let Schumacher Place fight their own battles. Where are the pro development people on this? I also wonder if the problem is really about apartments bringing in "riffraff?-would they oppose it so much if it were expensive condos? The city had better approve this project and I hope these people waste a lot of their money if they file some frivolous lawsuit. * I have no problem with SCHUMACHER PLACE residents wanting a better design though. German Villains should again, butt out and stay in their own little brick lane in the their own(admittedly very nice)enclave. Too bad Pizzuti can't be petty and after it is built make it subsidized low income housing for people just released out of prison.

Columbus: Downtown: The Madison / 100 North High
Well I hope this is the case-I would imagine a 400 car garage will be at least 6-7 floors alone. I wonder just how much residential would go on top of it? As long as they have most of the ground floor High street frontage as a restaurant I don't care about the parking especially if it supports a good number of residential floors. I really want to see this area finished, done, and looking good. *maybe we can get the height we should have gotten with the Nicholas?-who knows...one can hope right?

Columbus: Downtown: Harmony Tower
I really hope you are right-I really love the look of Harmony Tower and we don't have anything like it.
-
Columbus: Downtown: Franklin County Government Center Projects
I guess that is the big unknown-will they use the entire space for the building or only a portion of it. I am hoping for the latter.
-
Columbus: Downtown: Franklin County Government Center Projects
They have done that with several projects already like the 11 floors down to six next to where the cleaners was(leaving that dead looking bare wall), not to mention the six floors between Gay and Long(I can't remember the name, but I know you know it as you dislike it as much as I do...Is it the Nichols?) What should stop them from doing it again? Is the standard 8 floors or ten with an encouragement for more-something like that?
-
Columbus: Downtown: Franklin County Government Center Projects
We should have a thread for guesses on how tall the new courthhouse will be. Given the large area they have, I am going with 7 floors because I can't decide between six or eight. The very nice looking building posted a few posts ahead of this is probably out of the league of city officials here unfortunately IMO. I expect something like the Coleman center or the new court building southwest of Main and High. Not to be a downer, just trying to be realistic. *Are we allowed to make a "guess the height/floors" thread?

Columbus: Random Photos
Great pic! I attended OSU in the eighties. The change from then is HUGE. I remember when the Graystone Apartments were low income and sort of slummy. I would love to live there now but of course could never afford it. It would be nice to see things a bit more like this along South High in the Brewery District as well.

This has come along so fast...games being played in just a few months! I can't believe the number of negative comments this has over at CU.

Columbus: Downtown: Harmony Tower
What does the future look like for boutique hotels? I know that they were wanting at one point to put a 12 story hotel just down High to fill in that spot across from that low and disappointing new 6 floor development(can't recall it's name). I would rather have a hotel here and something else (like apts. over ground floor retail)there.
