Columbus: Italian Village: Jeffrey Park Development
Toddguy replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt is disappointing that there is a reduction here, but it is not a huge loss. It would be worse in a different location. And given the pandemic and all, if they follow through with this it will be "ok"(but not great)IMO. Now they should look at Astor Park to see how to do the dang garage right. We really need the density(and especially height)downtown-again, JMO. What we really could use would be more projects like this 40 acre development scattered throughout the city, older parts and newer parts, replacing dead retail or less dense apartment complexes, etc, especially those on major arterials where they just might help get some needed upgrades in public transit in this city.

Columbus: Downtown: Harmony Tower
Cautiously optimistic... maybe a Market Tower. Only because Schiff did the Atlas building right next door. And he would not need very many wealthy people to be on board since there really would not be that many condos involved.

Whitehall: Developments and News
Yeah it looks vacant-not a car or person to be seen. Oh well, on with progress then.

So they are going to tear down that existing neighborhood that shows as "Woodcliff" on Google maps? Dang.

I agree. For a suburb, this is really not bad at all. The housing density alone will be over 4,000 units per square mile(1,000 units in 140 acres) and that 140 acres includes the office space, retail, and parkland. This is really pretty good infill within the urban area footprint(given this is Cbus and car-centric and all). Now if we could only get some things like this in other parts of the area(including in the "uncool crescent" below 70).

Thanks for this update, I was wondering why they were going to paint the brick over again. At least they are using Sherwin Williams paint.

I can't see the article, but could it be related to this(which was posted in this thread on December 16):

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
For some reason I really like the way the render looks regarding the roadway along the Olentangy side. Having a roadway there seems to indicate a separation of the parkland and the housing, sort of showing that it is public parkland and not just a part of that development maybe? There will be a canoe/kayak launch area where the one path dips down to the water, right? All of what has been proposed/built so far looks great IMO.

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
Now all we need is a new rendering showing new buildings for the spot just north of the stadium, south of the stadium along 33, west of the North Bank condo tower, and in the infamous triangle of land they have chosen to turn into a nicely wooded area lol. *edit Also the strip south of Goodale and east of Neil. *And we can put the final nail in the coffin for the name "Penwest" . Astor Park sounds nice.

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
Apparently in Ohio 3 cities may lose their Metro status if the changes are made: Springfield, urban area pop. 85,256 Mansfield urban area pop. 75, 250 Lima urban area pop. 72. 852 https://www.thenews-messenger.com/story/news/2021/03/08/bye-bismarck-144-cities-3-ohio-could-lose-metro-area-status/4627250001/ Best for Newark to stay with Cbus. Newark would also need to have a good case for displacing Zanesville or Marion in the designation also. I am not sure what the conditions are that enable a city to be part of the designation given that only three cities can be listed?

Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
Wouldn't Newark(if it did break free from being a part of the Columbus MSA)have to be a Micropolitan area instead of a new Metropolitan area given the upcoming changes mandating the central city of an MSA must have a population of 100,000 now instead of 50,000? https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/bye-bismarck-144-cities-lose-status-metro-areas-76295168 And yes as you stated the designations are based on things like commuting patterns which is why Newark is part of the Columbus MSA anyway so there should be no changes.

Columbus: Westland Developments and News
Toddguy replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThey have been working vigorously on this site with one lane of 40 shut down as they put in huge new sewer pipes. Portions of the site have also been cleared out.

Columbus: OSU / University Area Developments and News
Toddguy replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI have heard talk about eliminating it for decades. Maybe we will get lucky and they will remove the ugly twins that straddle it.

Pet Peeves!
Actually if all of the states were proportional in distributing electoral votes, I cannot imagine how they would display this on a map for all 50 states. It would look like a mess. So yes it does look weird now and would look much worse if all states did as these two do.
-
Pet Peeves!
Actually I would prefer the whole map look more like those two states-it would mean electoral votes would be given proportionally in all states-as I believe they should be. All of the electoral votes in huge states like California and Texas going to just one candidate seems ludicrous and discourages voting IMO.

Columbus: OSU Medical Center Expansion
Toddguy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWell that could be. What else would the put on this parcel of land? is there some long term plan that shows some other development on this site? It seems they went beyond the usual with the lower parts though so I have my doubts it would be a short term garage.

Columbus: OSU Medical Center Expansion
Toddguy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt would be significantly better if they used brick(or some other material like metal panels) on the whole thing all the way up coverng the bare concrete. The white bare concrete skeleton just stands out so much.

Grandview Heights: Grandview Yard
Toddguy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionOk well I guess that does rule out heavy parking garages. oh well.

Grandview Heights: Grandview Yard
Toddguy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionTheir condo buildings along Long look good and are 12 -20 floors...I wish they would integrate height like that elsewhere. They did a good job with those buildings-they make a nice row(which they could extend westward of course) They really could go taller in the south area since it is smaller and separate and close to railroad tracks-by tracks might be a place where stacking floors of units on top of floors of parking might be ok and allow taller and denser buildings. *I wish Cbus could do the same thing(add garages to reduce surface parking and allow for new builds) in the Gowdy Field strip across the tracks from Grandview Yard-3 buildings adrift in a sea of parking spaces like it was in Dublin or Easton or something.

Columbus: Downtown: Capitol Square Renaissance (Edwards Cos.)
Along with these other things couldn't they also have a special tax on surface lots within a certain part of downtown?-something that might encourage some of the owners to sell to developers?
-
Columbus: Downtown: Capitol Square Renaissance (Edwards Cos.)
Yeah hopefully it will be refined(and maybe some extra height encouraged. At least it will help block the view from the north of that massive ugly parking garage. Could they go higher and utilize some of that garage for parking? And yes it will help that there will be some of that old building facade(and the ground floor retail that will go with it). A nice surprise anyways.
