  1. He also owns the former Bellows school in Franklinton that recently was struck by lightning. Has he had these properties for very long and is he able to successfully move forward on them? Seems like that pawn shop and that school have been "proposed for development" for quite a long time and he did not develop this site either but sold it instead.
  2. This looks like a good comparison. about 700,000 square feet in the building and about 300 million for it and I believe the parking garage as well. This a bit taller with the additional square footage seems like it could be close to 400 million, and it is also comparable because it was built within the last five years. This is 40 floors so add ten or 15 more and a bit more of a taper and there you go-landmark skyscraper. The design(to me)also looks unambiguously modern.
  3. Hopefully like a weed on fertile sun kissed soil after a warm summer rain. ?
  4. ^^ This is a good location for this type of infill. And God knows we need every bit of affordable/workforce housing we can get. It looks like it is located near a number of things including a pharmacy, several restaurants and other service oriented businesses, and what looks to be a sort of convenience store. per the CU article: Is this guy good at getting things done? The article mentioned the area has been a field for years. Is he getting things done with these holdings or what? Just curious here.
  5. Glad to see them moving right along with cleaning up the Topiary Park mess so they can rebuild. No waiting around at all. They should be rebuilding in no time.

Odell is a mess. I have loosely followed a thread on a forum where some people who are obsessed with him go over his life daily. He has lived a pretty messy life the last year or so. I can't believe he has not gotten Covid-19 given how he continued to run his own home as if it were a refugee camp for various sorts-might as well have installed a revolving door. And all though the pandemic as well. Parties and clubs but nary a mask in sight. He looks like he has aged five years in the past year.
  7. Will it be brown metal? I also do not like the colors on the single family home renovation(inside or outside).
  8. I can't access the site without paying. Can someone tell me if they are just going to redevelop the highrise or is there going to be more development on the rest of the site?
  9. ^^ I don't know why the can't use that type of brick siding along all of the garage or at least some other material over part of the concrete so it is not just bare concrete and nothing else. Would it be impossible to use some kind of metal or other type of panels over the concrete so it is not quite so obviously a hulking concrete parking garage? There really should be a law that especially in the older parts of the city, you cannot just have a naked concrete garage-that all visible sides should have to have some kind of treatment so that at least 50% of the concrete is covered or something. They are necessary but they don't have to be such damn bare naked concrete uglies.
  10. LOL it really does. I am surprised I like a building with the Schottenstein name attached to it given ARSHOT, Millennial Tower, that Central Station or whatever proposed for the railroad ridden sites east of the new Crew Stadium site(including the infamous triangle)etc.
  11. I surprisingly like the orange as well. Some part of me wants the beige to be a little Browner for some reason. lol.
  12. ^^ Those 60's and 70's suburban low rise buildings should not be saved-they should never have been built in the form they are(low rise and set back from the street)in the first place, and they are also ugly as hell. I would like them replaced if at all possible. They are horrible for that part of downtown. Save one if needed for whatever "historic LOL" reason and then get rid of the rest of them. These would be ok in suburbia, but not near the center of our downtown where they are abortions/abominations. And they certainly do not deserve any protection or "historic" designation. Raze them!!!! ?

Well not an auspicious start...I will leave it at that.
  14. I hope not. Hopefully the city moving forward in "The Peninsula" will be a cue to the developer to go forward with it now-by the time it is finished this pandemic may well be over/we may be in economic recovery?

It is. I would love to get a better look at the little ring of identical structures right along the river bank in the top right part of the second photo as well as get a look at where the canal used to be over there. They were probably slums but they look cool and that little area around them looks very European or at least German Villagish. But right on the banks of the river?-would be better along a lake or something but not along a significant river that floods-and this looks like they already widened the river.
  16. Not meaning to bust into your Cleveland thread, but I really hope this works out and you all get a nice tall quality tower. We can be from different parts of the state and still root for one another.
  17. I can't wait to see it built after all the city went through to keep the team. I am also eagerly awaiting the construction of the surrounding Confluence Village-and hoping they might up the # of units and have some really nice designs and quality materials to make the area really stand out and "pop" in it's relative isolation. I also hope this is a catalyst for construction to fill in the gap between this and the original Arena District-the area which I guess is now called "Arena West"/Pen West" or whatever. Maybe we will get really lucky and get another tower like TCANB as a sort of exclamation point for this end of the Arena stretch.

Now that last pic really shows how much the Scioto River banks were very nasty. What a contrast to the greenway we have now.
  19. I don't approve but you bet your @$$ I am gonna watch.
  20. This is fascinating stuff. Many people in that area were really spooked by this apparently(if you believe the internet anyways). Such a very foreboding, end-of-the-World look.

It would be very difficult to have a monorail go along High and not be aesthetically jarring, to say the least. But it would be a good idea to seriously propose one. The Clintonvillains and Worthingtonians would nearly stroke out-then you could say "ok well how about a streetcar/lightrail/BRT line as a compromise? lol.

    Interesting(and surprisingly graphic for youtube)video.
  23. Toddguy replied to Julian's post in a topic in Mass Transit
Yes. They would rather have that than a monorail. Anything related to public transport would have a better chance along the High Five from the Brewery District north through Old North Columbus. Stuff could go along High or near it. North of that forget it. I think it would have to bypass Clintonville and Worthington-maybe following a railroad ROW.
  24. Toddguy replied to Julian's post in a topic in Mass Transit
Anything development related should avoid Clintonville/Worthington at any cost lol.

But the German Villagers, Clintonvillains, etc. will not care. There is no way this could go along High through Clintonville and Worthington. You can't even get a building taller than 2 floors built along that part of the corridor-they would block the street with their own bodies before they would allow something like this. And they would have NIMBY allies joining them as well. I would have it stop(or veer off in another direction)before leaving Old North Columbus on the north end of it. It is a nice thing to wonder about-this and a streetcar/subway/etc. Some kind of streetcar/light rail would happen before anything else(and even that is not very likely to happen). Also this thing would have to be done in a neo-colonial way for Worthington-can you make a monorail out of red brick and white painted wood lol.
