  1. Very good news! The red building looks good in that pic above just showing how "earthtoned" our downtown is.

All the way along High? lol. Clintonville and most definitely Worthington would kill it or die trying. German Village would be raising hell too even though it would go through the Brewery District. "Oh mah gawd, that elevated thing will have people looking right into second floor bedroom windows!!!! and think of the children!!!"

I had never heard it used outside my family until it was on an episode of "Law and Order" when Goren notes when someone uses it and that it is from western Pennsylvania. Our family migrated form Germany in the 1700's and slowly moved westward from NYC across PA to northeast Ohio settling in and around a town called Girard, Then we moved south and southwest(eventually establishing another node in Oklahoma). A relative from Hubbard tracked all of our family genealogy back in the day. I just thought it was an unusual Ohio thing until I saw that episode. I was just wondering if it also had spread into Ohio or was really centered in western PA and primarily never left there. Occasionally as an adult I have used it myself without thinking about it. I have never heard of anyone using it outside of that TV episode. *having looked at it I guess it did not come from the German part of the family...hmmmm.

Anyone else say "reddup" as in redd up the table? Anyone else grow up hearing that phrase?
  5. If I survive this pandemic I will go to our new stadium and watch the Crew play our new frenemies Cincinnati if it is the last thing I do.
  6. I wish it was a floor taller but otherwise it is ok. The front part is just a bit awkward to me in how it seems lower and in how it joins the rest-I like the back part better. There is the highlighted repetition in the back part but also some mixing it up on the top floor. It will be great to have this and the six floor building built. Is there any info on the number of units in the other six floor proposal? I know this one has 315 units. So will we be looking at 450 or so units or closer to 500 for the two of them?-which is huge for Weinland Park which is exploding with new housing and infill not to mention the nearly 20,000 square feet of retail/commercial/other space. *So I was just looking at an article on CU and they mentioned that the two developments will have 480 units on 4 acres so I guess the six story development will have 165 units. 480 units facing along Fifth is really a lot. This will add what, at least 600 residents to Weinland Park? I wonder what the existing population is there-these two project could be a ten percent increase(if not more)in population.
  7. I miss the Christopher Inn now(and it's never implemented tower with that revolving restaurant on top)! We need a rotating restaurant on a stick!-Being on a stick... I think the Ohio State Fair would be a good place. It could be erected just for the fair and all and then taken down..right?
  8. I think they should try to put all of the parking underground-I think they will be able to charge high enough rents(since there is no affordable or "workforce" housing in this)to cover it, and use some of the extra space provided to increase the retail component square footage so they could go for a small grocery store and probably increase somewhat the number of parking spaces as well-this is German Village and any street parking is really not available for this development for both the residential and retail component. That and a change in the materials. Also they better not just have street trees and grass in that area-that needs some significant landscaping there not just grass(I realize this is just a rendering of course and an initial rendering at that so it may be planned to be different there). I think the density and the massing of it is fine though and agree with the two comments above mine as well. I complain about the GV NIMBYism but they could try to placate them and the Schumacher Place crowd a bit in regard to some of these things which I don't think are outrageous complaints(more parking, more retail, not so monolithic/materials etc). This thing is in a pretty prominent place and while not in GV proper it is a pretty solidly historic looking location and they could put a real gem of a building into this space and this Covid-19 is not going to last forever IMO. They will fill these units and the retail component(including a small grocery store)with no problems.
  9. I agree with liking the massing/design, but not really liking the materials. They could definitely go for a more vintage look and try and make the same design blend in a bit more and look a bit more "German Villagey" and all. The height is fine. It does look a bit too much on the modern side for that area-especially the ground floor and the top floor. And the brick part is a bit repetitious and bland. These materials done this way would be ok for another area but not in this particular location. They could put a little more effort and $$ into the materials given that they will have this thing filled in no time and be charging premium rents too. Basically they need to "tart it up" with some old fashioned looking ornamentation/bric-bra/frou/frou and then it would be ok for the area. When push comes to shove, German Village and environs don't want a smart sleek young lady-they want a grand ole' *hore.
  10. Dammit I hate how Perth ruined it's skyline with that ugly Brookfield Place monstrosity.
  11. ^^ SMH this is why so many people do not intervene in public arguments, fights, etc. anymore to help people because you never know who will pull out a damn gun. Basically the only people who can intervene are people who are armed with a handgun themselves.

I have caught hell before for admitting to the Frampton love lol. I listened to Frampton Comes Alive more than anything else. I also attribute my little bit of hearing loss now to blasting Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, etc. on headphones(my parents were right-it has affected my hearing later in life lol.) I like literally everything they put out. I had only older brothers so I was influenced heavily by what they(and their friends) listened to-which is why I like stuff going back to the late 50's onward-it all seemed like it was "my time" music even though it preceded "my time*". *"my time music" referring to that period of music that people identify so heavily with when they are young and all-usually nothing before or after will compare to it. I like all kinds of stuff from all time periods fortunately.

I listened to the Eagles constantly in the late 70's along with...Peter Frampton...lol. I don't know what was wrong with me with that second one. I would go to sleep to either of those two playing. Also listening to a lot of Steely Dan lately along with Quiet Storm stuff from the late 70's and 80's.

Listening today to The Eagles. Good old 70's music(the kind that I would back in the day have on 8 track and have run over and over in my stereo sitting on my faux wood metal stereo stand with the required variegated spider plant in a pot to put me to sleep at night lol)
  15. Damn! OSU football player shot in the face: https://www.nbc4i.com/news/local-news/police-22-year-old-male-injured-after-shooting-on-ohio-state-campus/ Columbus has had 92 homicides according to the Columbus Police website.
  16. I am just surprised they have managed to get a season in. I cannot wait till this pandemic is over and the stadium(and surroundings)are built and the Crew are playing in it! I never thought i would miss sports this much. Also it will be nice to get to a new "normal" and build a nice healthy rivalry with Cincinnati.
  17. I seriously was wondering if there would be activity on this within my lifetime lol. If they are really breaking ground then yeah this is exciting. I think if the city just goes ahead and builds the public garage right off it will spur the rest since the parking will be in place. Start it off and the rest will follow-sort of like the other public improvements downtown like with the Scioto Mile, the Scioto greenway, etc. These public improvements help bring about the desired development. Maybe because it shows the business community that the city is strong enough about it's committal to downtown that it will put it's dollars into play?
  18. Yes this will be some serious density at this location. This is a good six floors (looks like seven floors) and who knows how many units and with the retail and with the other proposal with at least 300 units this area will be popping. They really do need to get rid of the eyesore that is the liquor store. I like the "warehousey" look and the big windows.
  19. Columbus had it's 91st homicide yesterday according to the CPD's latest press release regarding homicides.
  20. Very cool. I love used brick. Back in the late 80's bricks from the demolished old creamery in Pickerington(Central Ohio)were dumped on a relative's property near Sycamore Creek. I ended up(with some help)hauling about 2,500 of them to Cbus to use as a large brick sunken patio and several brick walks. I hope you find a buyer/someone to whom to donate them.
  21. Well I would think that 6 floors would be the limit given they can have a concrete ground floor and then five stick built floors above that per the codes. And 74 feet comes in pretty close to 6 floors(The crap at Highpointe is 77.5 I think). You could have eleven foot floor to floor(ten foot floor to ceiling)apartments and still have a 17-19 foot ground floor for retail. I would be very happy with five or six floors in that area. It is amazing how that area is filling in compared to what it was 10 or 15 years ago. I love this infill and densifying of these areas with some pretty good projects scattered about replacing some real eyesores.
  22. I think that only 300 units will be ok as long as the rest of it is done well-good design and materials and all. And yes if the parking is hidden(especially on at least three sides) then it will be ok. If it is open to the north that would not be such a big deal I guess. JMO.
  23. Hey now...this is not one of the 'villes. This is OSU and they don't play that game! (and I love it!)
