  1. Even if they just got them in black they would blend in so much better. I had barely noticed them but now they seem to stand out like sore thumbs!!! It looks like somebody threw a bunch of snowballs at it and they plastered themselves onto the building. Dammit I can't unsee them either now and the building is ruined for me lol.
  2. I agree. Also I think we should embrace our local culture of Buckeye fandom. So many people see that as a negative but it really is not IMO. It is part of what Central Ohio is and really is part of our "brand" as a city and we should embrace it and put it in the best light possible. Not doing that is like some form of self-hate IMO. Also without Pro Basketball and Pro Football we can support the teams already in place in Ohio and also occasionally catch a game(close enough to easily drive). And Lord knows looking at the situation of those teams they sure can use the support! ?

  4. I doubt you can show me anything that awful. That house is just so terrible on so many levels I can barely stand to look at the pic. And yes the glass block is terrible too but there are so. many. other. things. wrong! with that house. It literally hurts my eyes to look at it.
  5. That last house posted is just an atrocity looks wise. It reminds me of some of those awful new upper middle class homes built in Eastern Europe-just terrible looking. What the heck is that in the far left window on the second floor?-it just looks bizarre and random. All of the windows are just awful together. And all of that pavement and then that tiny patch of bare lawn and no landscaping save a single shrub makes the house look even more ugly and brutal.. Damn all of that pavement must sizzle with heat in the summer.
  6. Thanks yeah I remembered that Cbus was undercounted but I could not remember by how much it was undercounted. For some reason I keep thinking that we might be overcounted this time, just because the estimates have been so good and are showing such growth...almost like it is too good to be true-especially given how new residential construction seems to be lagging and all which makes me think where are all of these people living? I know the vacancy rates seem to be much lower than in 2010. I remember going to visit my parents and there were so many vacant properties then, and now you barely see any there. I also wonder with so many new immigrants and given the relatively large number of people living here you that were not born in the US(something like 185,000 or so I believe)if the birth rate for that group and family size might be higher than average. Well we will just have to wait and see. I hope that the stupid changes to the Census questions do not cause an undercount.
  7. Seeing how well the Buckeyes are doing in both football and basketball reminds me of how we really get by ok without major league professional teams in these sports. They really are like our home team, and are so good. Also we can enjoy them and know they will not just pick up and leave and become the Boise Buckeyes because we won't cough up a billion dollars for a new stadium or something...in other words we will never have to deal with a Precourt type!
  8. Interesting that Columbus appears to be approaching a density of 5,000 persons per square mile. Also interesting is the big jump in overall tracts over 10,000 per square mile-about a 50% increase. I really hope these estimates are accurate. Do you remember(or have the data)regarding what the last census estimate was for Columbus before the actual official number was released? I can't remember and I was just wondering how close it was. If I recall correctly the actual number was significantly higher for Columbus than the estimate, which was unlike many other cities that were considerably lower?

The renderings don't look anything close to that height? Good news that they are moving forward on now this regardless.

That is why I wish there was a better word than the go to phrase "ground floor retail", since what we really want is ground floor activation of some kind whether it be shops, restaurants, office space, amenity space for residents, etc. Anything but a concrete parking garage or giant blank wall. Even if the ground floor has no activity it can be livened up with art, green living walls, etc. I guess I get a bit tired of people complaining about a lack of "ground floor retail" when it really is much more than just that. Ground floor 'activation" maybe? ...I don't know.
  14. Me too...and also I would prefer they have half a dozen buildings of 30 floors or more in this development-but I don't think it is going to happen. ?
  15. It looks like the width of the parcel is about 122-126 feet. That is close to the minimum for a garage or about 2/3's of a quarter lot(which are 187.5 feet in most of downtown.) I don't think they could go much thinner or have a setback here. That would be for a garage with two inside lengths for car parking, two lanes for driving on either side of them, and then two more car parking lengths on either side of those. The Motorists garage along Oak is about 100 feet wide I think, but the spaces are all angled so it would cut down on the number of spaces if they did something like that. Probably more expensive to to have a cantilevered residential part also Maybe they could have some nicer material facing this side like brick along with the rotating art? I think something like this might work especially if it is along the pedestrian height level. Something with some interest for anyone walking by. There also appears to be a nice line of trees along Grant right here-very close to the street. It would greatly help if they kept these and just trimmed the eaast sides of them as needed-the greenery/tree pattern would help. *Hello Great American Tower...good riddance nasty Rhodes Tower! ?

  18. I hope they can manage to do more than bare naked concrete and all. Even if some brick or something like they did with the Goodale Street Convention Center Garage or something. Too bad we can't have anything like green walls or green roofs, but with public money I can see trying to keep the costs down. At least the two garages planned for this part are located in the back by the tracks. If it helps jumpstart this I am for it.
  19. So how much of this is about having an ugly open parking garage facing Grant? How much is about having something activated there(amenity space, office space, etc.). and how much is specifically about retail? I know the "ground floor retail" is the go to phrase, but if we are talking about actual retail, it needs to be in nodes and along retail corridors downtown. How much does this stretch of Grant apply to that criteria? I can get on board with not wanting dead blank spaces/walls/garages at ground level, but not so sure about "ground floor retail" specifically for every proposal. I would want retail more along Broad really. If you can't have actual "retail" along Grant, what reasonable alternative are there to just the dead space parking garage? And yeah, a long dead stretch of garage(especially the blank open concrete kind)is not a situation we need any more of downtown(or anywhere really). I guess I am asking if people think that this is close enough to the stuff farther up Grant to be part of a node or is Grant considered a viable retail corridor? *If every proposal has to have specifically "ground floor retail" then there will be a lot of empty ground floor retail around.

I am 56 and have peripheral neuropathy(they can't find out why I have it)in my feet and It is difficult for me to walk a lot but I still support the idea of walkability-if it gets too bad for people to walk then that is what handicapped parking spaces are for-for people who need to be close. Or ride services or other things. Most people can manage to walk a few blocks or more so-we should design for them and create alternative exceptions for those who can't(myself, I would not be able to walk more than a few blocks without some serious pain and cramping in my feet-but I am the exception really). Hell nothing worse than having to go to Walmart, parking close, and end up having to walk half a mile or more total in that place just to shop lol. *sorry if I shared too much personal info
  21. I think a lot of studies have shown that "walkability" for most people ends at a quarter mile. I guess this is why density is so important-you can get more "stuff" within a quarter mile and also have a denser public transit grid. Maybe that distance changes if you ad scooters or other smaller "vehicles" that are not really considered cars?

  23. The building is about 30,000 square feet. And they said 30,000 square feet of office space... not office/retail space. Hope that is wrong though.
  24. At the very least have some retail on the ground floor of the building facing Broad. Is this whole project going to be devoid of any retail whatsover?-not even a small coffee shop or something...anything? *Also another minor complaint...I am not a fan of the dark gray/black part. Too dark for cloudy Columbus. Overall very happy about this and the saving of 366 E. Broad! And yes! for the green rooftop for 366... unusual for Columbus-would love to see more of this.
  25. Room renovation does not sound like facade glass replacement(unfortunately). Also wouldn't replacing all of that glass cost more than 20 million?
