Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
I DESPISE! the name Pen West. I guess it just is me...but I would take almost anything over Pen West. Arena West maybe? Just anything but Pen West-which makes me think of a cattle pen or something rather than the thankfully gone penitentiary, which is bad enough on it's own(a chamber of horrors where the third or fourth deadliest building fire in US history happened back around 1930 among other things)-good riddance to any mention of it. That is one piece of Columbus history that does not need to be embraced or even mentioned or remembered except for perhaps a memorial to the victims of the fire. Nearly all of those who died (over 300 people) were in there for relatively minor offenses (as opposed to major violent crimes) as well.

Along with the nice stadium we will be getting, I am so glad that this area will be known as Confluence Village and not the horrible "Pen West".

Columbus: Downtown: RiverSouth Developments and News
Toddguy replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionRight, because something bigger and better is automatically an impersonal monolithic structure, lol. Look at the box- I think that would qualify as the impersonal monolithic structure already present. To each their own I guess.

Toddguy replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWhat a sad little box that will probably keep something bigger and better from happening on the quarter block. Love the little da fuq? thing! lol

Columbus: Random Development and News
Toddguy replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionReally? A dozen or MORE proposals for buildings in Cbus in the last decade(since 2009) in the 400-500 foot range? I would certainly like to be informed about these as I have never heard about them. Can you back this up?

Columbus: Random Development and News
Toddguy replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe only proposal I can think of that was over 700 feet was for the Capitol Plaza building that was proposed next to the old Dispatch building in the late 80's which i believe was 711 feet or so. Contrary to what many think, the tallest in Cbus(ugly Rhodes Tower)was never supposed to be significantly taller than it is now. I looked it up and there was no reference to it ever being taller(some say it was supposed to be up to 750 feet). And I highly doubt this 700 foot plus current rumor will pan out.

Columbus: Downtown: Merchant Building
I am not happy with this rendition really, but maybe a better way to think of it is that if it is this height, this and the Hilton addition will be the first towers over 100 meters (328feet) in what?-over 30 years?-and will take our number of such towers from 14 to 16.* 100 meters is what is usually considered a skyscraper vs a highrise by such authorities as Emporis and I believe the CTBUH. Trying to look at the glass as half full here. *and to really be optimistic, Millennial Tower would take us to 17!

I like it. It will be a nice new centerpiece for the new district. Hopefully the office/residential buildings that will go up around it will be as interesting. SO much better than a casino or low density NRI neighborhood that was also envisioned.

Cleveland Browns Discussion
I love that OBJ's 2 million dollar watch turned out to be a fake. All of the hub-bub about watches for two weeks, right when he comes out as representing a (different)watch company. lol. He gets paid, gets more attention, and watches are spotlighted on someone "cool" for the watch companies. He knows how to play more than one game well. more on topic.. They are still building and coming together... They have alot of injuries... They are a new team really... Mayfield just needs time to adjust to the quirks of his receivers... Expectations were WAY too high for them...too much too soon. just give them some time...

Columbus: German Village / Schumacher Place Developments and News
Toddguy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIn this Dispatch article you can see just how nutty they are. Talking about all the tall buildings going up in the Short North and how that could happen to German Village etc. Even if that did(which is hardly possible)it would not even BE in German Village-both sides of South High are in the Brewery District. They are just nuts. Historic Preservation!!!-really? Parking lots and an ugly stucco one story thing? I would not be surprised for them to call for a Cordon Sanitaire to be bulldozed all around German Village...a block wide strip of asphalt parking surrounding the place to protect it from even abutting anything *gasp* not brick or over two floors.

Columbus: German Village / Schumacher Place Developments and News
Toddguy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI want to start a thread-which is worse, Victorian Village NIMBYS or German Village NIMBYS. (or Clintonville NIMBYS)

Columbus: German Village / Schumacher Place Developments and News
Toddguy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Construction^^ That is just ridiculous! You can see looking west down Livingston where High is part of the Brewery District. I almost hope they line South High with 12+ story buildings that will cause half the NIMBY German Villains to stroke out. First having gas meters *gasp* on the outside of homes, and now a monstrous five story building covering up low rise cheap stucco buildings and parking lots!-what will happen next!!!! -get me my smelling salts! I must have my aromatics and recline dramatically on my settee! /sarcasm.

Columbus: German Village / Schumacher Place Developments and News
Toddguy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt looks great-and it is hardly in the heart of German Village-it is on crappy Livingston for Christ's sake-it is not replacing anything historic. The German Village NIMBYS will be out in force with pitchforks and barrels of tar and feathers. smh

With all of the problems, they did almost take the game into overtime-they were not blown out. They are getting crucified in the press-after three games.

I really want something iconic and that looks like it is from Star Wars-and in a good way-kind of like the new Vets and all-unusual and good.

Columbus Crew Discussion
Well even if the last game is Sunday we still have to root for the Browns since their owners saved the Crew. Have to be loyal and all now. All hail the Crew, The Blue Jackets, The Clippers, tOSU, and yes, now (and very firmly) the Browns. jmo of course *I hope the rumor about the new stadium looking like something out of Star Wars is true.

Cleveland: Downtown: The Beacon
This is a great highrise infill building and the reality looks a bit leaner and dare I say a bit more of an even better fit than the rendering.

I do not want any problems whatsoever in getting the stadium and the area around it developed. Anyone or anything that stands in the way should be beaten with a stick. Nationwide had better damn well play ball(no pun intended)on this. No damn delays! Too much hard work(and worked nerves of Cbus sports fans) involved for this to have problems

Madison County: Developments and News
Also utility work on extending water and sewer lines from downtown West Jefferson eastward across Little Darby Creek to the 40 /142 intersection (and beyond) are progressing (and making rush hour on 40 a mess). This is to access the land annexed across the creek for a new 12,000 square foot Kroger Fresh Eats store and a mixed use development with 1,000 housing units-which would be the biggest residential growth in West Jefferson in decades.): https://www.columbusmessenger.com/bids-in-for-utility-extension-to-kroger-sky-ranch.html West Jeff really needs some kind of real grocery store-Family Dollar and Dollar General just do NOT cut it!
