  1. Christ..in that case it probably would get built! smh.
  2. It is still a very bad look for NYC imo.
  3. Well with all the billions being spent, they could at least throw in a damn skyscraper or two. Just sayin' and all. I mean it is an innovation district...how about an innovative skyscraper or two, huh? ?
  4. Well at least they did not mention the Hilltop as one of the neighborhoods. The Hilltop is quickly moving to be the number one bastard stepchild neighborhood of Columbus, completely ignored and left to rot. At least there are initiatives or even thoughts about other neighborhoods-the Hilltop can apparently go(even further)to hell.
  5. West Jefferson getting another huge warehouse (over 850,000 square feet): https://www.dispatch.com/news/20190213/west-jefferson-to-get-large-new-warehouse-near-i-70-and-state-rte-29
  6. As this kind of development goes, it should be fine given it is in Hilliard schools. Now anything south along Alton like I mentioned would be Southwestern City schools, and Westland High School...which could be problematic.... (even though I went there it is not what it used to be.)
  7. ^^This is over on CU, and it looks like a pretty decent idea-just preserving most of what is there and building over it all. The NIMBYS will be hollering though.
  8. ^^ Oh mah Gawd!, Columbus is annexing itself into sprawldom again! No wunder it be the biggest city in UhHiuh! /sarcasm. *They need to fill in that far western strip from this on down to Galloway/east side of Alton Road.

I can attest to this. Now you cant find any 50-60' sh&t...maybe playing in nursing homes lol. It will be weird when all of the residents in nursing homes will be Brittany's Heather's, Chad's and such. Won't be too long before Moon Unit or Dweezil will fall and break a hip.
  10. This is why mass transit(particularly light rail)will never work in central Ohio-too many neighborhoods just. like. this. smh. NIMBY havens, but mass transit hells. How are we ever going to get the density to support mass transit when so many damn neighborhoods are like this? (And this is not the only one, every thing up High from Arcadia through Worthington is as bad). Hell even people in the Hilltop would probably oppose anything over 3 floors along Broad. We need new thinking and new blood in this city.
  11. I can't get over the exposed plywood on a place that is going for around $900,000.00. Disgraceful. At least from the pics the brick ones look a bit better.
  12. As a resident of Central Ohio for many years, you would be correct in your conclusion about the current mayor.

I will forever now associate Nashville with heinous older neighborhood gentrification...beyond help here.
  14. That one pic way back there(not even going to try to find it)was Naples at night, not Venice. Just sayin'. Good pics though. And yeah, the Hitler stuff is weird. I am glad I do not commute in Tokyo also. yikes.
  15. The problem is that current conditions often dictate future conditions, as in well established single family home neighborhoods(think Clintonville for the ultimate example)are not just going to disappear in the future. Most of Columbus is designed and built out for the car and that is something that we have to deal with, and current conditions will likely guide where future growth(especially TOD)will occur. This region(most areas of it anyway)will have problems with the upzoning and densification needed to make any dense transit system, especially a fixed in place one like light rail, able to be implemented. I hope I am wrong, but this is Columbus and all lol. We have problems when it comes to "the big picture" as you have noted. I would love to be wrong on this of course. We need a strong leader, a regional leader, something like a Coleman/Wexner hybrid mix to push for things like this and there is none such person to be seen, IMO. Another thing we lack that I will note even though a certain "lover of cities" thinks we are all mindless booster bro's and all. ?
  16. Well we all knew for years now it was going to be red...it was just what kind of red. This red looks ok as long as the quality is good(not like that six floor one on High where up close it looks very poorly put together and all.) Looks close to the color of the crane-not too bad at all especially when you compare it to what was posted in the renderings earlier in this thread. Hopefully it will be put together well and add a nice patch of color to a drabbish (is that a word?) area.
  17. Hell if we could just get some REAL BRT around town and at least a light rail line from downtown to the airport and up to Easton I could die happy. I really think that a real(as in really good and improved state of the art) bus system with BRT that we could convince people to ride would be the biggest thing we can do regarding public transit for our urban area population. I just don't see that many areas where we can feasibly implement light rail and have the accompanying density to make it work given our city layout and the intractable NIMBYS that would fight to the death to stop any needed increase in density in their areas. All the transit fantasy maps are nice, but are just that-fantasy. I would like to see a map (including some realistic light rail lines that would not be money pits or "boutique" lines) with BRT that might actually have a chance of getting implemented. It would be nice to include areas that could be upzoned for greater density to help support these lines as well.
  18. Well maybe the people who have to take the financial hit from empty storefronts might not think that it is ok. But they really do need to focus on either creating/maintaining retail streets(High) or focus on creating retail nodes like the one over on Fourth. And for the other areas they need to at least make the streetscape a bit more desirable in whatever ways possible to alleviate the "dead" feeling. Maybe public art, murals, green walls, amenities like fitness centers, etc. located along the street level, etc. They just can't have walls of brick or concrete. But just as all streets cannot be dead with no ground floor activity, all streets cannot also be alive and vibrant with ground floor activity-it just is not possible in the downtown that we have with so much office and government buildings. Just getting everything filled in on High will make the lack of ground floor activity in many of the parts of Riversouth less problematic. But with concerted effort the city can get more residents in, more mixed use, foster nodes of activity and try to enliven the existing retail streets while making the connections between them a little less gloomy and forbidding. *I really do hope I am wrong and they actually come through with something not only iconic, but with some decent height and good connectivity to the street. Hope springs eternal, I guess-even when it comes to downtown Cbus, which so frequently lets us down.
  19. Sorry but "iconic" for the skyline might to them mean a repeat of the new courthouse or the Coleman Center- 6-8 floors covering the whole grass lot and then demolishing a 19 floor building for a sorry ass poorly designed windswept barren pocket park from hell. Not in such a good mood today. *Maybe by "iconic" they could put the metal cooling tower thing that idiot from Cali designed for the Scioto Mile on top of the 6-8 story Columbus government building clone lol. "It would say COLUMBUS! like nothing else!!!".
  20. I agree that less than ten is not acceptable. But we are dealing with reality here, and we may have to settle. I still think we can do it with at least six floors(and a 80% of the existing surface lots/automotive centers/pawn shops/etc) filled in. The biggest letdown (to me)was 6 floors on the west side of High between Gay and Long. I guess hope Springs eternal. And speaking of Spring that street could use some damn height as you mentioned. Your parameters are good- but not what we will likely get, unfortunately.
  21. YAAASSS! This is looking good. Such a good compromise!
  22. You did not even know this nugget of info, and yet did not give me a like for it? LOL! smdh! (ok, I had a bad day and got the vodka out.)
  23. Don't forget certain "peer" cities, like Indianapolis, with an official downtown that is almost 6.5 square miles. Can you imagine what our "downtown" population would be if we, oh, let's say added the Brewery District, German Village, the Short North, Italian Village, and the University District south of Lane? Yeah we are lacking in new highrises(dammit!), but we are slowly but surely filling in...and even with 6-12 story infill downtown, if the trends continue, we will be just fine. We can do it with 6-12 floors if we have to, and it is the streetscape and street level activity that matters! (and with the Lord's help-which it may take-some better form of public transit.)
  24. There is still a chance for a *something* on the land north of Goodale between the cap and the garage. Maybe a boutique hotel with apartments/condos on top??? One can hope lol.
  25. They swore it would not be reduced. *sigh* If they can't keep their promises, then they need to stop making them. We will probably not only have the height reduction, but a really s@@t design to go with it-"but it will be good enough for Columbus" and all. smdh.
