Toddguy replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Construction^^Looks good-except for the infill SFH on Linwood with the massive entrance. Everything else nicely blends in... and then there is that. If it was bigger is should be on reddit/McMansionHell.

Columbus: Merion Village / Southside Developments and News
I think at least for me part of it is that this is dealing with the South side, and so many times they have been screwed over and have had noxious facilities located there. There were even explosions and "fallout" from some plant before. It is easy to go right for the worst when something involves the South side. And yeah, I am glad that South Siders were proactive about this, even though it appears to be a false alarm, and the owner can explain things and it will be ok. *I kind of felt like a schoolkid getting my hands smacked with a ruler or something from 17thState's quote lol.

I feel bad about helping to raise the alarm without doing my homework on this.

Big Darby Accord Region: Developments and News
There are definitely two access points for the rest of this development unlike what is shown on the map. I wonder if there has been a change in plans? I kind a wish they would put in more apartments-more housing units can go in than SFH construction. Across the street the affordable housing continues to rise. I wonder what the residents of the Summerlyn subdivision think about it?

I don't bike but seeing the unprotected bike lanes on Columbus city streets I would never feel safe on them.

Columbus: OSU Medical Center Expansion
Toddguy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionLooking good...at least for the upper left. On the upper right...*sigh* those things have to stick up like two sore thumbs. Not trying to be all "complainy" but I really don't like them and 40 years after first seeing them close up and being inside them, the feeling remains the same. Is there any hope of a facelift for them? Or maybe a controlled demolition induced dirt nap? Again though, New hospital and OSU Stadium: it is all love.

Columbus: Merion Village / Southside Developments and News
Well I am glad you looked into it further-it does not seem too bad as you have posted. I guess it is a nothingburger. They should be able to explain this at any meeting. Too quick to grab the torch and pitchfork here. My bad.

Delaware County: Developments and News
Toddguy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIs she out of her effing mind? Also I really object to this new term "transient housing" being applied. It is degrading and ridiculous. I guess wealthy people never rent and never move(along with "country girls" who live right outside one of the fastest growing major cities in the nation *eyeroll*.) That pic also shows that wisdom does not necessarily come with age. *cause your typical "country girl" lives in a 5,900 square foot house. Right.

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
Older people are the epicenter of the loneliness epidemic.

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
You do have to make an effort. Before Covid(and I live near West Jefferson-(hell for a liberal)I had only spoken to 3 of my neighbors, but not very much. I made an effort and now I have had conversations with all of them(8) and five have been in my home-I have been in some of their homes too. I was isolated and I chose to do something about it. You reach out, if someone does not respond, reach out to someone else. But it isn't easy when you are a naturally shy person. People need to push themselves more than ever now to connect with other people. If they flip out, bow out and stay away from them and try someone else. Covid definitely is part of the problem-I did not realize how bad the isolation would be. And it is not sprawl out here, it is downright isolation!

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
But empirical evidence is showing that it is getting worse. Maybe this is the wrong thread for this phenomenon? It is easy to blame sprawl, but what is the real main cause? With sprawl, correlation does not necessarily mean causation. What do studies show is causing this almost epidemic of loneliness?

Columbus: Merion Village / Southside Developments and News
Oh I know you were not promoting it but just explaining something that is likely true. Those are valid reasons for the move but maybe if it was a business or industry that would be more appropriate, then we all would be more in favor of it. I guess I could have expanded on that in the post. My bad.

This is true but public transit usually serves density and density and fertilizer plants do not mix well.

Aren't fertilizer plants prone to blowing up*? Put that out in the boondocks not here. *Oppau, Germany(twice) West, Texas I would not want to live near one.

Suburban Sprawl News & Discussion
Back in the day to interact with anyone it was on the phone(and they stayed at home)or we had to meet them. The nature of interactions was by necessity more by the means we had to communicate with one another. Yesterday I was texting and talking to multiple people and exchanging all kinds of information and I never left the house. It just wasn't that way. We spend way more time online communicating with people we really don't know on our devices as well. And I don't think it was sprawl-communities still had neighbors who knew each other, kids ran in groups, people did things together more in their neighborhoods. Has sprawl changed since 1990 as communication has? Is there something about 50's-80's sprawl that is different from 90's -now sprawl?

Urban area would be a better measure. Just sayin' and all. OSU: 60K enrollment population 1,567K = 3.8% students UC: 40K enrollment population 1,686K = 2.4% students

Columbus: Westland Developments and News
Toddguy replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWell commercial/light manufacturing/distribution is not quite "industrial" in my mind, and could be best incorporated in a mixed use development. I guess I am from the West Side and know better than to expect much-that area does not tend to get good things without a lot of help.
