Learning Photography basics
Yeah, the people at Dodd are super helpful and friendly in my experience. I always go to the one on Lander Circle. I don't mind spending a little bit extra to support the local company and to have the personal interaction.

Cleveland: Rock and Roll Hall of Fame News & Discussion
^I would if I could, but it doesn't sound like I can. The website says: "Can I bring a camera or video camera to the Inductions? All cameras, photography, recording and filming are strictly prohibited. " I don't want to bring my camera only to be turned away at the door and have to walk back to the car. Although, I do wonder if they are doing a red carpet. I think last time they did.

Learning Photography basics
I agree that if you are new, start with an inexpensive camera, whether it is point and shoot or and entry level dslr. I had a point-and-shoot for a while and used it just as that, a point and shoot. After a while, I decided to get a bit more serious and got a Nikon D3000 (before I got even more serious and got the D7000). I have gotten books, both from the library and for purchase. Personally, I don't get very much into books that "teach" you as they tend to be so technical and boring. Plus, it is hard to learn how to do something when you are reading it from a book and not out there actually doing what they are telling you to do in the book. I prefers books that just have pictures as I find it interesting to see other's work. I do know that if you buy a dslr from Dodd, that have a free 1 or 2 hour class to teach you the basics of the camera, although this is probably more applicable if you got a dslr.

Cleveland: Suburban Crime & Safety Discussion
There was an attempted break-in at the building I own in CH, luckily the deadbolt held up so there was damage, but they didn't get in. Also, I have heard there have been several successfull break-ins of businesses on Lee Road. Cops told me they catch one and there's six more to take their place.

Cleveland: Ohio City: Development and News
The old Ohio City Blooms space. It was a dump when I saw it and the landlord wasn't willing to put any money into it at all.

^^ (my quoting isn't work - darn work computer!) I would argue that Home Depot, not Wal-Mart put Seitz out of business. People do still buy hardware, they just go to Home Depot. I admit I am 100% guilty of this - I always got my home improvement items from HD. Also, I remember the old Severance Mall as I grew up two blocks away, so I was a frequent visitor. I went to many a baseball card show when they would fill the public areas of the mall with stands for sellers. They had a bowling alley, food court, and if I recall correctly, 2 movie theaters - TWO!!! Does anyone else remember this or am I mistaken? I do know that I saw my first R-Rated movie there - American Me - needless to say after watching that movie I was horrified of prison.

Cleveland Heights: Development and News
a few notes regarding the Cedar Taylor neighborhood: I have one tenant in place in the building I own - they are called Another Enemy (www.anotherenemy.com). They do t-shirts and hoodies. I am working with the city on some renderings so I can finally redo the storefronts on my building. I hear there is a sneaker shop going into the building that has the driving school in it. Please "like" the Cedar Taylor Development Association on Facebook. This is a recently formed non-profit to bring the merchants together and to find ways to beautify the area. We have some good ideas re: landscaping, signage, and bike racks. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cedar-Taylor-Development-Association/226842990741493

"The Most Overrated Sandwiches in America" - Maddox Article Discussion (Hehe)
I can't click on the link at work, but is he saying Subway is overrated? Doesn't something have to be highly rated to be considered overrated? I eat it from time to time because its cheap, convenient, and relatively healthy, but I don't know anyone who raves about how good Subway is.

Cleveland: Looking for the right neighborhood!
I lived in the Cedar Fairmount neighborhood for about 6 years and loved it. It's very safe and very walkable. My rent in a two bedroom was $750 and then it was $625 when I was in a one bedroom (heat included). I did have to pay for parking.

Great review of SOHO. My only complaint - they should have used one of my pics!! Southern Belle West 25th welcomes yet another fine new dining spot by Douglas Trattner When it comes to southern hospitality, nothing's more gracious than inviting in a stranger and setting out a plate of pimento cheese. That's precisely what takes place nightly at SoHo Kitchen and Bar, the latest in a flurry of new additions to Ohio City's restaurant row. Snug, cheerful, and glowing from within with candlelight, SoHo (short for southern hospitality) embraces visitors like a hug from Grandma. Mercifully, Ohio City's newest eatery is not another gastropub. It's a "New Southern" bistro, serving fresh takes on cuisines such as Low Country, Cajun, Creole, and barbecue. Here, diners will find classic southern staples like shrimp and grits, catfish po' boys, and chicken and waffles, all dressed up for a more demanding modern audience.
