  1. I don't know when that was, I graduated 98. There were plenty of drugs when I was there, but more pot, acid, shrooms, etc. I don't think coke and pills were as prevalent in those days (at least as far as I knew).
  2. It does happen everywhere, urban or not. I lived in Hudson in high school and I knew kids that would go into unlocked cars and garages and steal stuff. We are not talking about career criminals here, but kids will be kids (not that that's an excuse to steal). Even in Aurora, I would absolutely lock my car doors. And most cars these days have autolocks on the key or keyring, so if anyone has this and does not lock their doors, that' s just pretty damn lazy.

I recommend reading this, by former Clevelander Joe Posnanski. RIP Bob Feller Baseball | Comments Bob Feller threw three no-hitters and 12 one-hitters during his 18-year career -- all with the Indians. (Walter Iooss Jr./SI) One of my earliest memories was seeing Bob Feller in a jacket and tie. My father took me to some sort of morning meeting in Cleveland — a small room, in my memory, filled with metal folding chairs placed in uneven rows — and Bob Feller stood behind a lectern (and perhaps in front of a chalkboard; for some reason I see a chalkboard). I do not remember a single thing he said. I only remember him standing in the front of the room, and the awe he inspired, and my father telling me this: “That’s Bob Feller. He threw the ball faster than anyone who ever lived.” http://joeposnanski.si.com/2010/12/16/rip-bob-feller/

    Agreed.

    Very cool picture.
  9. Renderings did change over time. I think the original was changed as it would essentially have paved the entire plaza, with limited greenery. I don't have a final rendering. I was not involved in the discussions on the design of the plaza, so I have limited knowledge. Once the scaffolding is off the building, they finish the planting, and install the lights, I will take some new pics. I'm not sure, but I believe the Wright Center is not happening because of the economic downtown. Of course, it would still be good for something to happen down the road, once things are turned around.
  10. Thanks - and done.
  11. I don't know the reference and I will not respond to it!!!
  12. can you change my username to just - smith?
  13. Correct in that it will not be covering any more (I'm pretty sure) than what is seen in that picture.
  14. My understanding is that the brick being covered up was in pretty bad shape.
  15. My family celebrates but we never did the shoe thing, we each hung stockings and it got filled with candy and an xmas ornament. Two years ago, my dad woke up early and put stockings at the back doors of my siblings and I (he had to make 5 stops before we all woke up) which was a pretty cool thing for him to do.
  16. I heard that a restaurant was going in the Hts. Rockefeller Building. Should be interesting to see how it looks. I have been to many events in there over the years and remember going to Society Bank there as a kid. It is definitely a GRAND space. I hope they don't change too much of it. I love that building. It has retail, offices, and apartments in it.
  17. Cleveland talk on How I Met Your Mother (one of the characters hails from Shaker Heights). Some of you won't like - "He's been stuck in Cleveland his whole life." They think he's having a hard time, being a Clevelander and all, but by the end of the episode, the guy talks about how happy he is. http://deadspin.com/5690950/with-one-tired-sitcom-punchline-we-lose-all-our-sympathy-for-cleveland

I straightened it out a bit.

Thanks, I was thinking it would look good on canvas (after I straighten it out).
  23. So I can save in TIFF format from Nikon. The printer I use (myphotopipe) does not accept 16 bit TIFF files. I can save in 8 bit. I plan to get a 24x36 print on canvas - is 8 bit good enough quality? I am thinking about printing the following pic. I will rotate it slightly so it's straight, but what other edits would you guys make? As usual thanks for the great info Rob. I went back to take a picture of that door again so I could be farther away from it and it looks like someone stole the door. What's the world coming to when someone steals a door out of an abandoned building??

I got a new lens and went back to the Westinghouse Electric building. Here are seven pics, more on my blog (http://borncirca1979.blogspot.com)
  25. Oddly enough, I guess you can say I'm doing better. Since real estate prices tanked I was able to suddenly afford a house and the $8000 tax credit certainly helped me afford it.
