This could also go in the pet peeves thread - It pisses me off that they have mobile units that literally hide behind rows of parked cars in school zones. I got a ticket a couple years ago for $200 for going 28 in a 20. Are these police officers manning these mobile units? If you can pay a cop to man the mobile unit, how about he just actually pulls people over???
  2. I lived in Cedar-Fairmount district for 6 years and can attest that it is probably one of the safest areas in CH. As to parking, it is a pain, but you have a couple options. There are several city owned lots that have parking meters. There should be a few meters that are something like 25 cents for and hour or two. You can just load a couple dollars into the meter. The other option, which worked for me, was that I lived directly next door to 5/3 bank. We would park cars overnight there, as long as the cars were gone before the bank opened.
  3. Great call - I live in CH and am usually too lazy to drive out to Eton just to go to Trader Joe's.

You can also call the utility company and they should be able to tell you the exact amount billed for each of the past 12 months. I have a 1200 sf house and I pay budget - $124.00 per month for the entire year.

anyone know where I can get a Bernese Mountain Dog without spending $1000? I am open to a rescue, but since they have relatively short life spans, I wouldn't want the dog to be much older than 1 year old.

I went to the Botanical Garden to take some pics to enter the PD photo contest for pics of orchids. If you feel like it, check out my blog (link below) and vote in the poll to help me pick the three best to submit. This is my favorite, but I am not sure if it is an orchid.

Real good foreign film I saw recently - French film called "Tell No One."
  11. Stunning pics Ram - I like those a lot. I'm not quite up to that level with my urban exploring yet.
  12. Gotcha - personally my preference is to print in standard sizes due to the cost. Joann Fabrics seems to sell its frames for 50% off practically every other week. These are not the best quality frames, but when you are trying to put a lot of pics on your walls (like me) it is cost prohibitive to custom frame them all. Is it possible to adjust my camera so it takes the pictures in more of the standard sizes as opposed to full frame? (or is this frowned upon by the pros?)

From what vantage point did you take the pictures of the Sam Laud? Is it a private residence or is it somewhere public?
  14. Thanks guys - some good things to think about. I am looking to get a bunch of pictures on the walls in my house and in general, for now, I probably don't want to print full frame due to added cost of printing non standard sizes and the need for custom matting. That being said, maybe with this one, I will find a printer who can do the full frame. What do you guys do? Do you typically crop your pics to one of the standard aspect ratios or do you print full frame?

    Great pics!
  16. Well, when I upload this picture to that website and choose 11x14, it automatically gives me a box to move over the image to crop it, as in my camera takes pics in a different size than whatever is required for 11x14 pics. I edited the pic I took in photoshop prior to uploading it, but I didn't do anything to the size. The problem is, I lose the first columns if I were to crop it the way the website wants me to.
  17. Since you're in Cleveland, I'd recommend Camera City in the Caxton Building on Huron for larger prints. I usually walk in and drop off a disc. http://cameracityaudio.com/ Someone recommended this site to me. It seems to have decent prices. http://www.myphotopipe.com/platformChoice.php Next question - Apparently I need to crop my photos when I upload them for printing. The problem is, I lose important parts of the pic. Can I someone resize them in Photoshop? Or do I need to be taking wider pictures to allow for crop?
  18. I felt the same way. Why did Litt bother to write up that article. If he wanted to create discussion around closing the entire square, couldn't he have found some prominent local architect or planner to discuss the view. Plus it's not original. Here's an idea - they can write an article quoting me as saying I would like to see the lakefront developed, but I am only speaking for myself.
  19. Personally, I don't see the news here in that... "He has no official backing, and only speaks for himself, not Forest City, he says. "
  20. anyone have a good website for ordering 11x14 prints at a good price?

Yesterday was a great day for some urban exploring. The following are 12 out of 25 that I posted on my photoblog (http://borncirca1979.blogspot.com/). Not sure when the building was abandoned, but one of the magazines on the desk was dated 1999.

You probably want to consult an attorney. The title agency probably won't allow transfer with the lien on it though. Liens generally "run with the property"... meaning they will still have force after resale... especially if you knew or should have known about the lien. So, like I said, consult an attorney. If the seller is desperate, you could probably get him/her to sign what is called a cognovit judgment. Meaning, if he doesn't follow through, you won't have to sue him. Rather, you would just be able to go straight to collection. But then you have to worry about assets and his/her collectability. You always want "clean title" so I would be hesitant. But, if the house is a great deal and the lien is not that much, the juice may be worth the squeeze. I believe you can have the escrow agent have the back taxes paid at closing to the county. This way the seller would never receive that money.
