you people (and the media) are going to make my hypochondriac self freak out. Should I start stockpiliing canned goods for when I decide not to leave my house for fear of getting swine flu?

I just took my bike in for a tune up at Cain Park Bicycles on Lee Road. The cost was only $20, plus they fixed a broken spoke for me. They were very friendly and were not "insufferable dicks." I would recommend them if anyone is looking for a tune up on the eastside.

I disagree that in Cleveland Heights the vast majority rely on on-street parking. In fact, most streets in Cleveland Heights do not allow overnight on-street parking. I highly recommend Lennox Road in the Cedar-Fairmount neighborhood of Cleveland Heights. I have a one bedroom and my rent is $625 per month including heat. This is huge as heat bills can be quite expensive in the winter. I also pay $30 a month to the City for parking in a city owned lot. There are not assigned spaces but it is a large lot and never a problem to find a spot. Also, you are just a stones throw from Case's campus and the neighborhood includes a Starbucks, grocery store, restaurants, and banks.
  4. This is a good move. When McCleveland said a while ago that a known restaurant is thinking about moving to the corner of east 4th and prospect across from Flannery's...i thought melt...and would have liked that. (McCleveland, im still waiting for the potential suitor). Can anyone speculate on where in Cleveland Heights? I can't think of any open spaces that would be that big. Maybe it is a spot where a current tenant in not renewing. I am assuming it would be on either Lee Road, Coventry, or Cedar-Fairmount.

I agree and I find it funny as well. It just would not surprise me if some people didn't like it. If we can't laugh at ourselves then who can we laugh at?

This should elicit some interesting opinions...
  7. You sure they BOUGHT a mall? I think I read recently that they would be taking over management of a mall in Denver.
  8. Thanks!
  9. does anyone know a good resource for finding foreclosed property for sale? whether it be foreclosed upon for tax delinquency or bank foreclosure. Was wondering if anyone knows good websites I can find some. Thanks!

I also recently read "The Brief Wondorous Life of Oscar Wao" by Junot Diaz. I thought it was a very good book full of comedy and tragedy (plus, I think the title is fantastic).

I read that. Very interesting book. I find it amazing that 20-30 years ago there would be approximately 30 gangland bombings in one year. In places like Cleveland Heights, South Euclid, Lyndhurst, etc. Isn't that crazy? Can you imagine if there were regular car bombings today? I also read "The Road." I thought it was a good book, but depressing. Don't ever give that book to someone who is suicidal, they may just end it all after reading that book. I am currently reading "Killing Yourself to Live" by Chuck Klosterman.

I'd love to go to Cuba, especially before the US drops its restrictions (which are absolutely ridiculous). I have read that Cuban officials don't want Americans to get in trouble for visiting so sometimes they will not stamp your passport.

Notice how in Clinton's speech last night how she directed people to go to her webiste and write to tell her what to do? I say she is doing this so hopefully (for her) these people will also donate money to her. I say she is still only staying in for a few more days so she can get more money so she can try and pay herself back some of that money she and Bill lent the campaign.
  15. Let's not get ahead of ourselves, I don't see any way this gets built unless they get one of the large tenants still out there.

Anyone read Chuck Klosterman? One of my favorite passages is from his book Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs (great title by the way).... "You're missing the point," she said. "What you're saying makes sense in theory, but not in practice. You're trying to compare apples to oranges." "Why do you keep saying that?" he asked in response. "Apples and oranges aren't that different, really. I mean, they're both fruit. Their weight is extremely similar. They both contain acidic elements. They're both roughly spherical. They serve the same social purpose. With the possible exception of a tangerine, I can't think of anything more similar to an orange than an apple. If I was having lunch with a man who was eating an apple and - while I was looking away - he replaced that apple with an orange, I doubt I'd even notice. So how is this a metaphor for difference? I could understand if you said, 'That's like comparing apples and uranium,' or 'That's like comparing apples with baby wolverines,' or 'That's like comparing apples with the early work of Raymond Carver,' or 'That's like comparing apples with hermaphroditic ground sloths.' Those would all be valid examples of profound disparity. But not apples and oranges. In every meaningful way, they're virtually identical." "You're missing the point," she said again, this time for different reasons.
  18. Was it bought by Deklan (sp?) from Parnell's? Is he going to operate both places? Yes, its going to be more food and pub themed than Parnell's. Both places will remain. (I also hear he kept the old Pub on Lee staff) Anyone been yet? I heard they were supposed to open 4/1.
  19. That's a cool trick, thanks.
  20. Mayday, you rock! How did you make the picture B & W except for the Great Lakes portion? Is that a PhotoShop trick?

I saw this blog as a link from an ESPN blogger a few weeks ago and love it. It is absolutely hysterical. Another good one is "Having Gay Friends".... "Gay friends are an essential part of a white person’s all-star diversity roster. But they are always on the lookout for the ultimate friend; a gay minority. It is generally accepted that a gay black friend with a child is considered a once in a lifetime opportunity - like a quarterback who can pass, run, kick, and play linebacker. White people will crawl over each other for the opportunity to claim this person as a friend and add them to their roster of diversity."

I agree with the Tremont and having east access to the highway. My Dad lives in Cleveland Heights and has been commuting to Canton for about 7 years now. Spends alot of money on gas, but he would rather live in Cleveland Heights. I couldn't do it, but he does not mind.
  23. Another good tip I know is: When you move out, assuming you give the LL forwarding contact info, the LL has 30 days to provide written accounting for any deductions from the security deposit. If you do not receive this in 30 days, you are entitled to be refunded the entire deposit. I have never had to use this law, but I think it is great to know.

I think Kohl's has hijacked Cleveland.com. when I go to Cleveland.com, I see the page for about 2 seconds and then it automatically goes to Kohls.com. Not sure if it something wrong with my computer, but pretty annoying just the same.
