Ingenuity 2007: Saturday (pt I)
I was told that Bart broke loose from the couch during the storm on Thursday, and when I was there on Friday, people kept yelling at kids for sitting on him. Maybe that's why he disappeared?

downtown canton
Pshaw. Canton is waaaaaaay classier than Springfield. :-P

Relocating - Job in Middlefield, where to live??
I know this wasn't addressed to me, but in my experience, the county and the amusement park are both "jee-AW-guh." It's also "ky-uh-HAW-guh" and not "ky-uh-HOE-guh," although I think the latter is spreading because of the influence of non-native news and radio casters...

Ohio: Third Frontier News & Info
Isn't that just speculation? I haven't seen any definite locations or figures for the steel mill or Strickland's "major investment," if that's what you're referring to.

The Changing Face of Cleveland: Getting a Lift in Arts Districts
I think I heard that Detroit was actually called something like the Paris of the Midwest in the 19th century because of the supposed magnificence of its architecture. On topic, I agree that it's ridiculous to market such a giant swath of the city as any single district. I showed a friend from a Boston exurb the google satellite image of Cleveland, and the first thing she said was "Wow, there are so many trees!"

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
Well, it wouldn't just be a rehab, but an adaptive re-use, with "adaptive" being the operative word. I remember reading somewhere (in this thread, I think) that the architect proposing the re-use said that the county's space and floor-use requirements could be easily met with a modest addition. Besides, nothing's keeping the county from building the other tower!

I personally think it's kinda cute.

Cleveland: HealthLine / Euclid Corridor
I think that was deliberate because the Red Line is heavy rail, whereas Buffalo and the Blue and Green Lines are all light. Even though the Red Line is integrated with the Blue and Green, that might be venturing into apples and oranges territory.

Cleveland: University Circle: Cleveland Clinic Developments
Welcome to the forum, panajohn! That's an excellent point you've made. I hope the people at Ritz-Carlton realize that Beachwood has nothing compared to UC!

Cleveland tour
I don't know, but it might have been a deliberate archaism. The only other place I've heard it is in the Battle Hymn of the Republic, but that's much older, of course.

Cleveland: Cuyahoga County Gov't properties disposition (non-Ameritrust)
Yesterday I got an email with a form letter explaining Hagan and Dimora's position. The first few paragraphs were a brief history of the complex, so I decided to leave that out. This is the rest:

Preliminary FBI crime data released today - Cities over 100K
EDIT: Florida Guy beat me to the punch with this, but I did find a more complete answer about the population figures. The crime data comes from city police departments, so I don't understand why the numbers are that different, either. As for the population numbers, the data declaration says: The FBI calculated 2006 state growth rates using revised 2005 state/national population estimates and 2006 provisional state/national population estimates provided by the U.S. Census Bureau. The FBI then estimated population figures for city and county jurisdictions by applying the 2006 state growth rate to the revised 2005 U.S. Census Bureau data. Granted, the report IS preliminary, but I'm wondering about the homicide discrepancy, too. There's contact info for questions: If you have questions about this table, contact the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division via e-mail at [email protected] or by telephone at (304) 625-4995.

Where to live in Cleveland? Recommendations needed:)
But isn't that true of all American cities?

Cleveland: Random Development and News
It would do plenty of damage should it fall on someone, but that argument is specious. Forest City should hire competent contractors and should maintain the tower to ensure that it doesn't fall apart. FC is just being cheap. I just think that our city's signature tower deserves something nicer than fiberglass.

Cleveland: Random Development and News
They're resurfacing it in fiberglass? That's high quality, I must say.

Relocation to Cleveland
Please refresh my memory: that store is near the street corner, but set back from the road with planters or something in front of it, right? If that's the case, maybe Chipotle thinks they aren't getting as much car traffic as they could be, but I don't think that would really matter in an area like Coventry. That's the only reason I can think of, but it's really only speculation.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
Oh, don't worry, I didn't think you were. And "confit" is a way to prepare duck, not my name. I still don't think we're talking about the same thing, so I apologize for not being clear. I'm not talking about flights from Cleveland to China because, for the many reasons you've enumerated, I figured we probably won't see them in 2012 or any time soon, although the runway extension wouldn't hurt (which is what I was getting at in my first post.) I'm asking if CLE might see more domestic transfers because of China flights starting elsewhere. (Would there be a correlation? I don't know how the system works.) Something that just came to me: using your Houston-China example, do you think it's possible that Continental would shift some of IAH's European flights to CLE to make room for the new Asia flights? Maybe urbanlife is right, and Continental will answer some of these questions for me.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
I know the full runway extension was postponed indefinitely, but maybe "indefinitely" should be sooner rather than later. Here's the first part of an article I found on the CBS website. The rest wasn't really relevant. Even without the runway extension, I wonder if we could expect increased traffic at Hopkins due to shifted domestic flights.

Cleveland: Restaurant News & Info
Wow! If the PD ever began an article like that, I'd have a heart attack! Gypsy sounds really neat. I'll have to get over there sometime. I love all of these unique local restaurants...

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
Theguv- I'm talking about the parking lots south of "future entertainment" and the building to its left (both on the west bank.) Looking at the image again, I'm not sure if these parking lots are preëxisting or not.

Cleveland: Flats East Bank
What disappoints me most is how close that parking is to the river. Not only are there runoff issues (oil leaks and such,) but you'd think the developers would want the best possible views for their buildings.
