wow. relax. oversimplification will get you nowhere on this forum. being excessively contrarian will do even less. shrill ranting...well if that works anywhere else for you, good luck with that. in the meantime, use your inside voice. oh, well, guess that explains it. when in doubt, go to sleep instead of posting at nearly 3am.

when the cement on my bridgework cracks and my fake teeth come out you can see all the way to the back of my mouth. in the clevealand of my mouth, my tongue is euclid avenue. but that doesn't mean I am going to leave it that way. of course, in this same metaphor, this rendering is like a grill full of gold teeth.

Cleveland: Bob Stark Warehouse District Project
exactly! the feb and whd would become the Grocery District. think of the lightpost banners. in all honesty, with a tj's and a heinen's, I think the constantino's evolves or goes under. it is essentially an upscale convenient store with a few extra grocery items.

for the record, krazy mac's is the new name of snickers/cheddars/fourseasons. and the old smaller store front beside the main part of cheddars er krazy mac's, that used to be cheddars before cheddars became the name of the whole place, is now full of odds and ends with a sign that says rummage sale on the door. complicated. also, thanks to all the bars and restaurants opening, det-shor finally has fewer tax preparers and leather shops than places to eat. a real triumph!

architectural firm websites are the most annoying websites in ever. so much clunky flash front end, it takes ten minutes to find pictures of anything. I mean really, is a 30 second soft fade really necessary on every link?! usability damnit!

Ohio payday lending regulation
frankly, I am surprised at the animosity towards this legislation. it is a clear win for consumers. there is no cure all for the financial industry, but incremental changes can do a lot of good. I look forward to every one of these horrible places going under. they are a horrible blight on the urban landscape.

in their pursuit of authenticity, stone mad also has leather topped stools. they have a rustic ren faire feel. curious to say the least. I am sure once a couple thousand butts have sat in them, they will be less obnoxious looking. bocce in the bar can work...see the union hall in parkslope for evidence: http://www.unionhallny.com/ I am just finding the arrangement here to be awkward.

my feeling with stone mad is that it is made to look like it has been there for 75 years. everything is well made and sturdy. though I agree on the cow stools. lol. they look like crap. wakka wakka. anyhow, I was troubled by the lack of a soda gun. all mixed drinks were made from tiny cans of sodas. seems wasteful, but hopefully they recycle everything. the beer selection was top notch. but the bocce court seemed like a cool idea that turned out pretty dumb. when I have seen it work well, it was a big thing, better than pool tables. but here, it was beside the dining room, and you couldn't take your beverage onto the court. when exactly will people use it? between courses?

Help me buy a bike...
coaster brakes fail, they have always been poorly designed. I prefer fixed gear with front and rear calipers. in this way, I am able to manage my speed with my legs and with the brakes. well, your tenacity is surprising. I checked out your bike on your blog. consider the weight of the frame you have converted to single speed. to me, that makes your statements about weight rather puzzling. the tubes on that thing are massive. it looks like you converted a mountain bike. not to mention the front shock on the fork, which is completely silly for urban cycling, probably weighs more than most fenders. add to that, you are rolling on huge tires. size down to something skinnier, and you will reduce a ton of drag. all that said, you are at least honest about what you are doing...you are a nut. and I accept that fine, bicycles are about customization, so there really is no right or wrong. :speech:

regarding mitch...proceed with caution. his shop is usually a mess. the hours are like: open during the day. stop by and knock if it is locked. he lives upstairs. his manner is a little abrupt. to say the least. my experience with the ocbc was completely positive. if you want to learn how to do things, like get your hands dirty and actually fix stuff, and build your bike from the ground up, then yes, ocbc is your joint. oh, I actually ride with my helmet on every time! the doof hat is very stylish. embrace it. I bought the same giro helmet listed above. it is very comfortable.

What will YOU do with your fiscal stimulus check?
let me see...1700 taxes minus 1200 stimulus equals = peanut butter jelly time.

o rly? while 504g is in essence more weight, it is not MUCH more weight. it is far less weight than say, the entire bicycle, which you may end up pushing or carrying home because you think fenders are not cool. and as I mentioned above, fenders are totally cool, in fact fenders are covered in awesomesauce. honestly, resistance is futile. :shoot:

a rain suit does not keep road crap off your bike. fenders look awesome and are shiny. no fenders = lamesauce. fenders = awesomesauce. you are defeated...admit it!

the above suggestions are fine, but honestly, the important thing is to buy the bike that is right for you. whatever that means, do research and think about what you want to do on a bike. fit is important! google information on how to find out what size bike you need. the nicest bike in the world can be wrong for you if it is too big or too small. fenders are a necessity. if you ride on city streets, fenders protect you and your bike from flying debris kicked up by your tires in any road conditions. in the rain, they help you avoid swamp ass. rain is the number on excuse for not riding your bike...fenders are the number one answer to that excuse. bike lighting is required by law if you are going to ride at night. both front and back. buy a helmet! if you have a ten dollar head, buy a ten dollar helmet. my head is considerably more expensive, so I bought this kind of helmet: http://www.bicycle.net/2007/giro-helmet-helps-saves-man-head-when-he-gets-run-over-by-truck if you want a nice bike, think of it as an investment in your health and the environment and you will be better able to justify the pricetag. beware of cheap bikes. consider buying a used bike. your price range excludes most new bikes, but that is not a bad thing. the bianchi and felt bikes listed above are expensive, but they are also made in taiwan. everything I wanted to know about bicycles I learned from the late Sheldon Brown. his website is a wealth of information for the novice bicyclist: http://www.sheldonbrown.com/

stopped in at reddstone this weekend. rough crowd, lousy atmosphere, etc. the patio is still nice. the interior could really use work. the type of thing I would overlook if say, it had a good crowd, or a nice atmosphere. but it was in general, a pretty awkward, uncomfortable joint. it went straight to the bottom of my list for the neighborhood. good luck to them. but I'll just hit the parkview instead. at least they have paper towels in their bathrooms.

I don't think I said that, but I might have implied it accidentally somehow. I was trying to speak more to my frustration with the escalation of prices around me, as my own income remains relatively static. consider it like this, I move into the neighborhood because it is cheap and quiet. five years later a big project makes the neighborhood desirable, and now I can't afford to do anything but rent for a couple more years and save. hence, I stay transient for another couple years, even though I have a great job and I am very happy living in the city. ergot, if a better job opens up elsewhere, I may move for it, since I don't own anything. despite the fact that I really like it here and want to stay.

if I may add, as a potential first time home buyer, I am often put off by the price of what I want. I am not asking for much, really. my wife and I live in less than 650 sq ft now, so we can adapt. but so much is just out of my reach. just more than I am willing to pay, with student loans and assorted bills coming out of my bank account. so instead, it is easier to rent for an exceptionally cheap amount. and here is where I make a big leap which you are welcome to pick apart. this lack of quality homes at a reasonable price is making me much more apt to move to a different city when the time comes. I am not tied to a mortgage, and I am not truly a part of the neighborhood. no matter how much I like it here, I am still transient. I don't feel like my brain is draining, but I am sure the pd will try to tell me it is. I always start a post on topic, but end up editing the bits out that related to the previous posts and thread. somewhere in there I wrote how I like bp, but would rather live across the street from it. how I like older homes rather than new construction, how I would choose a small house over a big house in most cases.

in general, I feel a bit early 20th century about bars. in so much, they should be on every corner, so no one has to drive to them. then, you don't need parking, because you are going there to have a drink or two anyhow. a sunday night pub quiz would be pretty fun, an excuse to go to the bar, think and drink.

I walked by stonehengemad yesterday. they looked to be having an opening party of some sort. so I guess I owe myself five bucks for betting against it. I was more than a bit disappointed to see that they tore down a house across the street to make a parking lot. there is no lack of parking on w. 65th, this seems unneccessary.

wow, awesome, thanks for assuming I didn't read the article. I did, and as others noticed, it appears to be possibility that this could happen. I like new attractions as much as the next guy. but I think aquariums are cruel.

can I say no thanks? if they build it with private funds, ok. but as it is I find aquariums with bigger creatures in them kinda sad and creepy. at least its not a sea world. ugh.
