in case people were worried, steelyard commons now has two starbucks coffeeshops. coffee and burritos...what a combo! I am kind of relieved that starbucks has been slow to inundate the cleveland market. without their overwhelming presence, we have been treated to great independent places like gypsy, lucky's, civilization, talkies, phoenix, etc.
  2. the space looks great from the street lit up. congratulations on a job well done. I will try and stop in over the weekend. is there a possibility of shows there in the future?
  3. I blame gypsy beans for my winter weight. thank you very much saturday morning muffin run. and pastry. and mocha. sigh. at least I walk there.
  4. you say eyesore, I say unpolished gem. I am quite fond of this building. I used to walk past it often when I worked downtown. I love the facade. it is an under-appreciated style, I won't argue. that said, I think decisions on the fate of buildings like this should have less to do with fashion. it shouldn't matter that it is ugly or beautiful. the potential should matter. I am an optimist, I see the empty building as a lot half full. tear down the building and you don't even have a glass to put your water in. ha!

In addition to the above choices, I am glad to help with all reference requests. I am a librarian.
  6. 1500 if the pattern continues the same on all four sides. 1050 if it is only on three of the four sides. if you look, it sets up in blocks of 30 windows. each short side has 300 tubs, this is assumed by me since I have no photo of the non-rotunda side to work with. I am also lacking a photo of the back of the building. but the front has 450 bathtubs. and now the punchline...1500 tubs makes the breuer building the world's largest upscale gay bathhouse! hooray cleveland! wakka wakka.
  7. after looking at the det-shor pdf I finally got the landing spot for the nwt straight. and in the above image, there is a pedestrian courtyard, where a small leather shop stands. that is if I am understanding this at all. also, the pdf contains images for the battery park to edgewater tunnel plans. everything looks excellent. hopefully when the market stops taking a crap, I can buy a home in the neighborhood.

oh geez, I did that to him for 4 years when he was my landlord. oh well. it doesn't help that they look alike, both have single syllable D names, and work in the same field. apologies.

what a shame. dave perkowski has such a great track record of rehabbing buildings in cleveland, this could really have been something. hopefully this is not too great of a setback for him.

I have been consistently impressed with oc-dave's ability to fulfill my need for belgian beer and goya food products. but when I think about it, I visit the grocery store closest to me, that I am used to. hence, if there was a marc's I would probably go.

stopped at steelyard friday. the walmart was crazy busy. like, 200 cars in the parking lot busy. I shop at daves-oc, so I will likely not be going to wallyworld. but nonetheless, it deserves noting, people like cheap crap. out of curiosity, are you a socialogist or a closet racist?
  13. if I may...I like it three. it appears to have an entrance on euclid, between the two buildings, as well as the larger, under the inchworm, entrance. with the original building designed around this middle entrance, I can accept this. the back end, mayfield side of the triangle wedge is currently a parking lot wasteland, so I like how this situates itself. this may be a situation wherein the interaction between the buildings is key. while this building doesn't do much but lift its belly to welcome mcdonald's customers to walk past their cars and go to the art school, hopefully with the new triangle development, we will see a greater interaction here. or not.
  14. mr rub is an interesting speaker, and very engaging. not to mention, these tours have been getting rave reviews around the museum. and you get to wear a hat!

manny still hasn't finished rounding the bases.
  16. thank you for this. since I started my new job, I have had to skip biking to work. now I can wear a tie to work in the morning, and a bike helmet home in the evening. I am looking forward to working this out.
  17. assuming this means the apartment towers, let's hope they spruce them up a bit.
  18. completely clueless, ftw!
  19. funny thing that. I found a website, for a place in columbus of the same name. I am no foodie, so I don't know if they do this kind of chain thing, at this level of restaurant. http://www.latitude41restaurant.com/
  20. talk about diminished civic phallic pride!
  21. lattitude is furnished and held some kind of reception a weekend back. they don't appear to be completely open, but it looks nice inside. it has a split dining room style, kind of like sage in tremont used to.
  22. stupidly, I saw the fence go up around this and I thought "great, someone's going to fix these great old buildings up." the next day I saw a pile of rubble.
  23. oh the thread we love to hate. e105th and wade park. the two buildings on the southwest corner have been razed. brick storefronts and an apartment building. all vacant, but all still in good shape before being taken down. visible on google maps. these are just around the corner from the ugliest apartments in cleveland, on the corner of east blvd and wade park. is this the site of the new va hospital bed tower, or am I getting confused? as a small side note, the building on the other corner is the worst sort of ass to the sidewalk new construction I have seen in a long time. where there should be an entrance, there is a threshold, and then an unbroken corner. hilarious.
  24. to me, cheesy bannering would be like the san diego little italy district. every ten feet, there was a banner on a pole. and they all had pictures of different italian american actors, ray romano or leonardo decraprio, and then it said, "san diego's little italy, brought to you by pepsi." it seemed really unnecessary, I mean, wouldn't the FIVE italian restaurants tell me where I am?!
