  1. If I remember from the ins and outs of this, the Schaeffer Printing facade is also staying. Silver glass brick and all.
  2. Tremont news you can use: Press has closed and has signage that suggests a bowling alley bar is in the works. It will be called the Hi & Dry, after the old Tremont haunt that became the Southside. http://www.crainscleveland.com/article/20170119/NEWS/170119780/press-wine-bar-to-close-at-the-end-of-january Hopefully something will stick there, but it's been loser of a spot thus far.
  3. Oh wow, I just noticed they used clip art Mitch.
  4. World Class Signage™ in place for the Nord Family Greenway.
  5. Quite suddenly the Unique Thrift on Lorain is closing. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2016/10/unique_thrift_store_in_ohio_ci.html As ugly as the store is, it served a large part of the population of the neighborhood and the loss of affordable shopping will be felt by many longtime residents. In the meantime, that's a huge lot with a huge parking lot in front of it. If it's to be developed, I hope the whole building comes down and the gas station on the corner goes with it.
  6. I believe the CMA building is the Parade the Circle warehouse.
  7. I'm hearing rumblings that if the Indians make the post-season construction will start on the Public Square parking lot. Let's go Tribe!
  8. So essentially, it's a Taco Bell during the day and a Taco Bell that serves tapas and drinks at night. How is this something anybody wants?!
  9. Hopefully it will fail in a year and the damage to the building can be undone.
  10. Taint blasting aside, I think there is a lot of possibility in Tower City, but it just depends what Gilbert plans to do with what is now being called the mixed use site. If he builds something big, will it re-invigorate the mall. Or is he planning something else. I don't know, I just wanted to make a joke about taints.
  11. Ushabu is not open yet. There is also a fitness thing under construction into the three story building across the street, behind the 5/3 Bank. At least that's what the permit on the window said, "fitness thing." If I see the clipart bro in a Tapout tshirt milling around the area, I'll ask if he knows anything.
  12. That model is nicer than my apartment.
  13. It might have been an acceptable appropriation if it somehow depicted a tribe from the Great Lakes. Instead most logos use the idea of a plains Indian wearing a warbonnet as a stylistic pointer to authenticity, likely stolen in this case from the Indian Motorcycle Company and baby boomer nostalgia of cowboy and indians movies of the 1950s. It's trite and predictable. And I am glad it's gone. Now where are all the suburban nimrods going to park when they drive in to check this shitshow out?
  14. With such a large project going in, and the Creamery Building adjacent, it won't be long before someone gets a smart idea about the Pizza Pan building(formerly the Silver Fox, Tremont's classiest "show" bar). Hopefully it's someone with enough bank to making something really great happen.
  15. A bagel shop that is also a yoga studio? Or a bagel shop COMMA and a yoga studio.
  16. I tend to agree on the sub-par design contrasting poorly with the more interesting CIA building across the street and MOCA, but I think there's a more important issue at stake here. Are they really going to name the ground floor place Coffee Talk? Is a reference to a 1991 SNL skit the best you can do for a coffee shop name? I don't know what to say, I'm verklempt.
  17. This thread is my ongoing UO legacy, Variety Theater mention in the article about tax credits: * The Variety Theatre project, a long-discussed restoration of a 1920s theater complex at 11801-11825 Lorain Ave. on the city's West Side. Saved from the wrecking ball, the theater will become a restaurant and entertainment venue, while vacant apartments and street-level retail spaces will be restored. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2015/12/six_cleveland_projects_includi.html
  18. For over a century Cleveland has been a leader in the world class signage industry.
  19. Right, Liminis. Luminaires were the neo-folk band that sang the hey ho song. Apparently the theater is still active.
  20. The red and green building used to hold a little theater. Luminaire Theater maybe. I saw a play there maybe six or seven years ago.
  21. What's the over/under on a project of this magnitude working as a catalyst for other projects or slowing down the demand for other projects. Can we support nuCLEus, this, and whatever else is happening? Obviously there is demand, but how strong is it? With the adjacency to the Public Square parking lot, development there would be ideal, but is it possible?
  22. While it's nice that they've added a business and saved the church, even if it isn't actually that old, they tore down a perfectly nice home next to it to make way for the parking lot. This is actually the second time a nice old house has been torn down to make way for a parking lot opposite Lincoln Park. The first being an historic home torn down to next to the Ukranian Museum/Archives.
  23. Here is the article. What a bummer. http://www.cleveland.com/metro/index.ssf/2015/11/case_western_reserve_universit_69.html#incart_river_home
  24. Are they re-using the VanDuzer building or tearing down and starting new?
