  1. seems more like they are angling for better deals on the privately owned land, while holding out for a bigger payout on the publicly owned land. it's early, does that make sense?
  2. if anyone ever sees this guy filming, please tell him to stop moving around. it is nearly unwatchable.
  3. meh. not being able to see through a building also makes it a barrier. as a person with eyes, I would like an unobstructed view of the lake. also, I would like a view that does not include this piss poor excuse for a building. burying the convention center is the best thing you can do for everything next to it.
  4. excuse me, I just looked at the map. I thought this piece of crap was to be placed in the flats. please replace lakefront with the word riverfront and the joke half works.
  5. 1) 500 room hotel 2) Enclosed atrium connecting the hotel and convention center and featuring shops and restaraunts 3) 500,000-square-foot convention center 4) Glittering glass roadblock to lakefront access
  6. non-sequitor...being that the state of ohio has its head up its own regarding tax breaks for film production in the state, any argument for tower city that includes the idea of turning the old convention center into production studio space is kinda moot at this point. no?

like any diet, veganism has its ill informed practitioners. but with proper care, one can get all the nutrition they need without meat or dairy. it's just a pain in the ass to do it right. I am not vegan for this very reason. and I love cheese. mmm cheese. for the record, I find more vegetarians and vegans are disgusted by corporate cattle farming and the environmental impact of large scale production of meat products than some sort of gross out factor over meat. since I haven't had any meat in 10 years, the smell of raw meat cooking turns me off a little. but I have no problem with someone eating it. it's still food. bees are heartless killing machines. they should die.

There's currently a photograph of the Chrysler Building by Bourke-White up for auction at Christies. Perhaps we can all go to together on it, the estimate is $30,000 - $40,000. The art market has been under performing in recent months, so we might get lucky. A print of Terminal Tower and High Level Bridge sold in April of last year for 10,000. I've got $20 and some pocket change, anyone else want to go in on this? If you simply want a reproduction, ebay is an option. A search for the photographer's name brought 35 results. You might also try searching for the subject matter. Photographers, even famous ones, aren't always listed on images. Also, if a Museum owns a piece, they may have reproduced it, especially if it has appeared in an exhibition. And, wacky idea time, consider finding a high quality digital copy of an image you like, and have it enlarged by a print shop. You might find the results more satisfying than any poster. If you want an actual photographic print, watch the local auction houses, and check the galleries. I always enjoy looking at Aspire Auctions and Rachel Davis Fine Arts for local artists, and locally related art works. It is plausible that a photo of Cleveland might turn up locally at auction. And of course, before making any purchase of a work of fine art, call or visit the Cleveland Museum of Art's Ingalls Library and do a little research into the object. Bidding on purely emotional investment in an object is unwise. If you have any questions, feel free to message me.
  9. if you read the full story, you will find the deal is quite amicable as far as these things go.
  10. oh yes, the demo has started. grind hammer grind, jackhammer, BOOOOOOM! you can hear it in the library. they are pulling the pieces inward, so much of it might not be visible. but there are portals in the east wing that look out on the construction for those interested. the next few phases will be shielded by the 1916, the north building, and the new east wing, so visibility of construction will be limited I think. there is a construction cam on the clevelandart.org but it is not currently online.
  11. dave's has two groceries near the center of downtown. not to mention the five or six specialty groceries that have popped up. you might not be able to walk to get your groceries. but there are numerous places that serve the downtown population. tower city has a movie theater. sure it can be a little crazy on a weekend night, but honestly, so can valley view. gordon square theater is opening in a year. a borders would be nice, okay. but the cleveland public library is right there, it's nicer and bigger than any borders, and its free. if you really want to buy a book, go to visible voice in tremont. so there you have it, a grocery, a movie theater, and a bookstore, all within city limits.
  12. double pfft. public school!
  13. now, if only st ignatious would expand over the wendy's.

you will have to report on your experience with the wait staff. my wife and I received such lousy service from one of their waiters last weekend, I may never go back.

so, they are essentially thinking, let's replace this big ugly bridge with a big ugly bridge. gee thanks odot, you're the best.
  16. If you are interested in learning more about Tiffany, Faberge, and Lalique, please visit the Ingalls Library, in person, or online at http://library.clevelandart.org. We offer many opportunities to explore the artists in the exhibition and the Museum's collection. If you have any direct research interests regarding art, architecture, design, etc, feel free to contact me directly.
  17. as a librarian, I am anti-shh. I also dislike shushing of any kind.
  18. in an effort to satisfy the social, economic, evangelical, hockey mom, nascar dad, talk radio nutcase, gun toting, religion clinging, big tent conservatives, the republicans will likely nominate a sentient potato. seriously though, conservatism needs to think about its feelings for a while. maybe think about what it wants to accomplish. for far too long, the worst people have set the agenda. it will be interesting to see how their message changes. oh and, the closest name above to sentient potato would be sarah palin.
  19. street scape-ing has begun along detroit. the barrels are out and everything. oh boy!

I actually like nyc quite a bit, but it lacks a few things. but my family is mostly in wisconsin and illinois. a chicago relocation would put me closer to them. hence, I like it the most. I also like pretty much all of the rest of the cities in the above list. serious, move me there, I will be happy anywhere.
  21. the funeral home at w61st and detroit has been torn down. I am not sure if this means progress on the lot. but I like what this does for the building next door. the backside of the apartment building is now in full view, and it looks nice. the funeral home was quite ugly, no big loss I think.
  22. as long as the whole neighborhood doesn't go out for coffee with itself, things will be fine until that point in the future when bp is finished. personally, I would prefer if things kept a neighborly scale. ha! and I hope you mean "of a province" and not "lacking in urban polish." because I polish up urbs all the time.
  23. battery park is 3 blocks from one of the nicest coffeeshops in the city. gypsy beans has great coffee, tasty baked goods, soups, sandwiches, etc. it is on the corner of detroit and 65th. the neighborhood north of detroit is fortunate not to have the usual assortment of lousy corner stores that sell beer and cigarettes. there is one convenient across from the the save-a-lot on detroit, that was slated to be renovated and improved. and there is also a cvs pharmacy on 65th and franklin. and a few more stores if you drive down closer to 49th. there are a pair of convenient stores across the street from each other on franklin too. point being, there are more than enough shitty convenient stores in the area, and we have one very nice coffee shop. everyone on the forum should move here.
