my dad lives in waukesha, but he works downtown. he still says milwaukee, but then he lived downtown until a few years ago.
  2. I ran through battery park yesterday evening. the spot mentioned in design review has unbroken ground as of yet. the beach volleyball courts looked nice. I am surprised they aren't more busy. it really looks nice though.
  3. really?! the last movement I have seen recently was the installation of the sand volleyball courts, and some extra sidewalking. and I run through it daily. I will scope it out this evening.

aaack, I am experiencing phony rock design motif overload. seriously though, I barfed in my mouth a little bit.
  5. I heard that the idea is to put the dog park in herman park. and the folks who run their dog there are non-plussed. unless the dog park encompasses all of herman park's greenspace, it would be a downsize for most people that use the space there now. disclaimer: I am a cat owner. insight: my cat rarely runs, nor does he need a dog run.

my biggest pet peeve is my cat. he is 17 pounds, and always in a bad mood.
  7. probably completely totally no.
  8. and it's the reference librarian in me that wants you to present your ideas in easy to read, bite-sized, posts. consider editing yourself.
  9. this house is nearly in my backyard. and to be honest, it is a fantastic addition to the neighborhood because of the contrasts. I would rather have this well built white box a block away, than the crappy townhouses at the top of the hill. those things are already falling apart.
  10. I tire of the cleveland is the rock and roll city so here's a stratocaster meme. make it stop please. it is lazy and boring.
  11. it looks super classy thanks to those marble columns! http://video.aol.com/video-detail/snl-marble-columns/3278923580
  12. my point exactly. leave the gaudy crap for north olmsted. this is the front porch of our downtown. thank you for stating a completely obvious fact. very useful. even though no one was debating the argument of empty space vs. crappy chain restaurant. thank you. absofuckinglutlely.
  13. wow. that is ugly. btw, all american bar and grill = stupid theme bar with mechanical bull? ffs.
  14. on a related note...the Gap has begun giving away deep dried cheese on a stick with every pair of ill fitting pleated khaki trousers.
  15. shakey's pizza in kyoto. it was like eating a piece of cardboard. yet...still my favorite chain pizza experience. because I had eaten only noodles and rice for the previous nine days. I ate so much cardboard pizza, it was amazing. when I was a kid, shakey's would have a clown doing magic tricks. he would pull a coin out of your ear or whatever. then one day, we saw the shakey's magician at the thriftstore, buying a broken cuckoo clock. he smelled bad that day.
  16. I grew up in florida, and it makes me sad. my folks live there still, in punta gorda/port charlotte, and every visit is unpleasant. hurricane charlie destroyed the older buildings, leaving only 80s and 90s crap. too much stucco and not much else. the last time I was in ybor, it was dead on a saturday night, dirty and full of empty storefronts. woohoo, old timey!
  17. so true, the economics change with the scale of the project. but it is so easy to break even on an independent record label, depending on the genre of music of course. taking that next step to making a living at it, well, that is a tough get. also the money is getting worse thanks to high gas prices and the like. it costs twice as much just to start the van. this effectively kills the casual touring band, because you need to put in enough time to fill the tank, etc. I imagine the price of gass will start to show up in ticket prices any day now.

how I never answered this before, I don't know. I am a librarian. which puts me in the arts.
  19. the idea that the sound of a record is somehow responsible for the death of the record industry is good press, but faulty logic. the industry is suffering because it's a dinosaur. the industry adapted slowly to how people acquire music and, more importantly tried to maintain the same structure to how they promote, sell, and distribute music. the result is suppressed sales. then when filesharing came into vogue, they blamed napster and college kids for their problems, they blamed cd burning, they blamed chinese blackmarket pirating, they blamed the ipod, they blamed satellite radio. anything but the industry itself. a few years back, someone posited that music has an expiration date. it lasts maybe two months. but even that has shortened. most records are leaked before they are released, and old before the cd is on the shelf. add to that, the forced release schedule for most musicians, and you have a watered down product being foisted upon an unwilling listener who is already over it. the end.
  20. walked through again today, this time through the new east wing. it is definitely a wow experience. I hope everyone gets a chance to come down this week for member previews or next week for the grand grand reopening. regarding the "world class" talk, it simply is. hands down, half finished, still the finest museum in the middle of the country.

frankly, if they are going to pass a law about panhandling, they should target the problem. outlaw the giving, not the asking. fine the people who give out the handouts, and it will disappear a lot faster.
  22. the new galleries look wonderful. our old friends are back on the walls, and even a few things we haven't seen before are up. I hope everyone comes for a visit. june 29th cannot come soon enough! I am really looking forward to the 1916 building entrance opening seasonally. the sightlines coming through those doors are amazing. and unlike the museum projects I have visited recently in chicago and elsewhere, there will be windows into the construction zone, so visitors can check out the progress. yay, museum. the art is back!

the ohio city photo you took is hardly telling of oc. the heart of oc is the w25th and lorain area, about five blocks south, around the west side market. because it was a sunday, you missed out on market day too. nice photos though.
  24. staffing is always a consideration. but the cpl has a used book store in the louis stokes wing last I checked. go in the front door and look left.
