  1. Channel 5 just annouced that the site selection is the MALL SITE. Can it finally be over?
  2. While the Mall site would be an awesome link to the lakefront, I think the Twinsburg "expert" has a point regarding the fall and winter conventions that could literally allow visitors to never set foot out in the cold. That would be unique. That being said, Scranton Peninsula MUST be developed. What kind of view do we expect to give our visitors? It's bad enough that Ritz Carlton has to look out on that wasteland. Either site being announced at this point will please me. Let's build this.
  3. I recently moved back to Cleveland from Los Angeles. One of my favorite developments has been the E. 4th neighborhood, which I have been watching closely. Do we know about the status of Blackfinn? Their website is still up for a Cleveland location. Also, I wonder what will be done with the corner floorspace at Prospect and E.4th, across from Flannery's. Thanks. Can't wait to try La Strada.
  4. Let the other cities and states do what they want with gambling. Comparing the potential of gaming to the potential of the medical industry would be like looking at the difference between ground chuck and fillet mignon. There's no way we should be thinking about gambling when the idea of being the medical capital of the country is in our sights. The existing hospitals and technology here, added with the vision of medical conventions and health-care companies coming to town makes any casino a waste of time. So let's not worry about trying to emulate cities like Detroit, Pittsburgh or any of our surrounding states. What the project's leaders want to do could be far beyond any of them. Perception IS everything, so I'd rather be a medical leader than some Windsor rip-off.
  5. As long as the surface lots are chipping in, I say it's negative attitudes like that one that are the biggest obstacle. This is one of the most promising projects in Cleveland, with some major players behind it. So as for me, I'm quite positive about it.
  6. Great to hear about some further improvements to the WHD. Have there been any more rumors about the Public Square Skyscraper that Jacobs is proposing?
  7. In response to the question about the former Hickerson's site in the Hanna building, this link is to an article describing Bricco's that should be coming in November. It sounds great to me. http://blogs.clevescene.com/cnotes/2007/08/turn_on_the_lights_bricco_to_d.php I'm hoping for much more development coming soon to Euclid Ave.
  8. As far as our downtown population, I have read that Cleveland was projected at one point to have a downtown population of over 21,000 by 2010. The article is below: http://www.brookings.edu/es/urban/top21fin.pdf Is this something that we are still on track to do? I know the goal would be 25,000 or more to have a 24-hour town. University Circle, with its projects, also expects to have around 20,000 residents by 2010. http://www.uptowncleveland.com/vision/ What is our current downtown population?? Thanks.
  9. All I know is, if it is placed on the TC site, Forest City better develop Scranton Peninsula. We don't need our convention guests looking across the river at the garbage that's there now. Also, I agree that we need a major hotel, even larger than the one shown in the rendering. Hopefully Jacobs can put a large hotel in his Skyscraper, just like he planned to have the Hyatt in the Ameritrust Center. We need a new 1 Public Square.
  10. this is sounding a bit too serious for my taste. It makes me wonder if they are close. I agree with the other posts about it being unlikely that they could get enough VALID signatures. I've learned to never underestimate an enemy though. They better not extend the deadline to Monday.
  11. I've been following the developments in Cleveland for some time now, like most of you. I can say that this Medical Mart concept is the single-most exciting idea I've seen for our city. It has the most potential. To think that a collection of chumps who lack vision could actually have a chance at thwarting this makes me just the least bit upset. People's livelihood's are on the line when we talk about economic development in Cleveland, and stopping something of this magnitude for the sake of saving a quarter of a percent is asinine. To quote transformers, No sacrifice, No victory.
  12. I get excited when I see things like this coming to town. No one said we should measure Cleveland by its luxury hotels, but it is certainly part of the bigger picture. A lot of things are coming together in this city. University Circle is shaping up to be a premiere neighborhood for sure.
  13. The Ritz-Carlton would certainly have many assets in University Circle to capitalize on, especially when the Art Museum is finished and some of these other developments. That would make us one of the few cities in the entire world with two Ritz-Carltons.
