Columbus: Demolition Watch
Unionstation13 replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Architecture, Environmental, and PreservationWhat a gorgeous mansion. It would be a stupid move to demolish something so important to the history of Columbus.

manhattan: the first world trade center being destroyed today
The facade is only skin deep. Though its better then it being totally demolished it still doesn't show off the greek revival and federal influences on the roof.

Why Cleveland lacks significant rowhouses
Hm thats interesting. Was this due to avaliable land? Thats kind of how Indy developed.

Ohio Historical Society News and Discussion
What a shame. A historical society should not suffer budget cuts. Its a key peice in perserving culture and history. The historical society shouldn't have to pay or take care of ever historic property in the state. Why don't locals try and preserve their history? Why don't people take care of historic properties? Peoples lack of care for the culture and history of their community will be the death of us.

Does Historic Preservation Get In The Way Of LEED Principles?
I wish Indy had programs like that. Most green roof programs are for mason commercial buildings, as the historical housing stock is dominatly woodframe.

Does Historic Preservation Get In The Way Of LEED Principles?
My house was built in the mid-19th century. It has pretty high ceilings and windows. The windows are original, and the house is made from brick. I don't pay alot for heating and cooling. Its just an odd thing about my house, in hot summer I just have to turn one AC on for a few minutes and the whole house is cooled, same with heating.

manhattan: the first world trade center being destroyed today
Its not a haven of preservation. But where I live is Indianapolis where we have extremely tight historic preservation laws. NYC lacks it greatly. Due to demand for highrises, people rarely try to find ways to incorporate historic lowrises instead of just knocking them down. Historic preservation isn't only for people to keep certian styles intact, its also so people can look back and see what they are. This kind of development is absuloutly sick.

manhattan: the first world trade center being destroyed today
What a loss! This building could be a national landmark and these f$&king morons knock it down for probably an ugly hotel! This is one of the things that bugs me about NYC, its lack of historic preservation. Where I live isn't nearly as old as NYC and we give 10 x more consideration for historic architecture! IDIOTS!

Cincinnati entry in Ugliest House of the Year contest
^^ that house is far from hidiouse(though it would look much nicer if the turret was restored). How do they pick these houses?

Cincinnati entry in Ugliest House of the Year contest
I don't think its that hidiouse, it sure as hell prettier than most things being built today. It would probably make a nice restoration.

Demolition in National Register districts
Indy moved several civil war homes in the 1980s to the eastern section of downtown. Though I think restoring them in their original location would have been better, had they not, these homes would have been razed, though the historic stone and brick basements were lost. I say, if its the only way to preserve them, do it, BUT, if you can restore the houses without moving them, do that instead.

Tiffin: Seneca County Courthouse Demolition
Seems like the courthouse has a chance. Yeah, those two courthouses look identacle, loss of clocktowers seem like a major issues with historic courthouses. Many are trying to reconstruct their old clocktowers.

Tiffin: Seneca County Courthouse Demolition
That harrasment is stupid. I don't think those people are really thinking about this, its more of those "I'M RIGHT YOUR WRONG!" sort of thing. It just shows how stupid people are, and what little life they have. Like calling people and vandalizing their household is going to make them stop, especially such determined people. I have a feeling these calls are from friends of the two dumbass commisioners. Hell I don't understand why people are so against restoration of the courthouse, even with facts slapped in their faces. Where I used to live, a town the size of 800 people restored a 1911 library, and many houses in far worse condition. Do you think the economic issues of the city may have something to do with peoples denial of this issue? It isn't hurting these people, and lets face it, these commisioners are being stubborn because of their pride. The courthouse does not need to be bulldozed, yet they insist it. If they do demolish it, I hope it takes an economic toll on the people just so they realize and learn a goddamn lesson.

Hamilton: 1970-2007: Cladding, Demolitions, and Progress
its funny that the people in the 1970s thought they were being stylish, when just a few decades later, there was a public outcry for restoration.

Tiffin: Seneca County Courthouse Demolition
^^ Nice to see the governor stepping in!

Tiffin: Seneca County Courthouse Demolition
I think its stupid that people think its callapsing! The structure just needs a few repairs, it would cost more to reconstruct, PLUS demolition just because county commisioners are being stubborn! All this will do is tear the community even farther apart.

I was up in Chicago recently. I love downtown, all the neo-gothic architecture is amazing(since its one of my favorite styles of architecture). Gorgeous structures, they should be there untill the end of time!
