Additional thought -- if you'd be able to tour the Playhouse Square facility, it might be a cool idea to bring them to an actual Broadway Show there. "The Addams Family" will be showing while you're there: http://www.playhousesquare.org/broadway/addams-family.html You can generally get tickets for as low as $10 a person in the upper balcony.

Student group trip to Cleveland - suggestions?
Love it! yes we are the experts :) University Circle, Ohio City, and Shaker Square will be the easiest to access via public transportation. Historic Preservation: Playhouse Square -- it was going to hit the wrecking ball in the 1970's, and is now transformed/renovated into one of the nicest theater districts in the country, especially for midsized cities: Cozad-Bates House (University Circle) -- built in 1853, currently being renovated http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cozad-Bates_House Tudor Arms Hotel (University Circle) -- renovated and opened in 2011 http://blog.cleveland.com/architecture/2011/09/tudor_arms_hotel_gleams_after.html Soldiers and Sailors civil war monument (Downtown) -- renovated in 2010 http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2010/06/soldiers_and_sailors_monument.html Tyler Village (Asiatown/Midtown) -- perfect example of urban reuse and renovation -- huge restored complex http://www.tylervillage.com/ Gospel Press apartments (Tremont) -- http://clevelandsketchcrawl.blogspot.com/2010/03/sketch-crawling-through-old-gospel.html Well-planned communities: Shaker Square for sure http://www.visitshakersquare.com/ Uptown (University Circle) -- currently under construction http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2010/07/developer_mrn_ltd_to_break_gro.html Brownfield reuses: Steelyard Commons shopping -- http://www.steelyardcommons.com/press_releases.asp informational: http://www.city.cleveland.oh.us/CityofCleveland/Home/Government/CityAgencies/EconomicDevelopment/Brownfield Gentrification: E.120-Euclid Ave intersection (University Circle) -- you literally have $400K townhomes next to $60K houses. Cleveland: Immigration News & Discussion
Good news in today's paper: Global Cleveland helps immigrant healers get back to work Published: Monday, November 28, 2011, 6:00 PM By Robert L. Smith, The Plain Dealer Maryam Mansour arrived in Cleveland five months ago with nursing skills honed in the hospitals of Alexandria, Egypt. She also brought a love for her profession and a resolve to get back to it. Almost immediately, she realized, she was going to need all of her ambition. Her Egyptian nursing degree mattered little in America, she was startled to learn. Her role in operating rooms assisting surgeries would not be easily duplicated. On a recent Saturday morning, Mansour joined 20 kindred spirits in an innovate class designed to get them back to work and contributing to their new community. The classroom at Cleveland State University stirred with well-educated immigrants, all of them skilled in a medical profession, most of them underemployed or unemployed. These 21 students hailed from Poland, Ukraine, China, Japan, Vietnam, Nepal, Algiers, Palestine, Congo and Peru. They included 15 doctors, three surgeons, several nurses, a dentist, a physical therapist, a pharmacist and a dietician. Some came to Cleveland for school or for a job. Some followed a spouse. Some came from refugee camps. All face a long climb back to their former status. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2011/11/with_help_from_global_clevelan.html

Wikipedia pages for Cleveland and suburbs
So I've been busy improving wikipages for University circle this weekend: Created pages: 1) Cozad-Bates House http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cozad-Bates_House 2) Michelson-Morley Memorial Fountain http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michelson-Morley_Memorial_Fountain Greatly improved: 3) Temple Tifereth-Israel http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Temple_%28Cleveland,_Ohio%29 Greatly, Greatly improved: 4) University Circle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_Circle However, I have hit a road block and need help. Last night I created the "Montessori High School at University Circle" page and was immediately hit with "primary sources needed" warnings across the top. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montessori_High_School_at_University_Circle As you can see, I went over the top with every source I could find mentioning the school, but so some reason the mods are still giving me a hard time, and I'm nervous all my research and work will be deleted. I wrote to the mod asking why my news paper articles were not "primary, independent sources" and he replied with: By reliable sources, it is generlly expected that sources will be multiple and have extensive coverage; newspapers should be established, not local, and be at least of regional, or in the USA, of state-wide distribution; this is of particular importance for schools as they often receive routine mentions in local newspapers. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2007/09/cleveland_montessori_high_scho.html for example, is simply an information piece on the opening of the school; at that time the school would not have earned any notability, while http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2009/06/new_high_school_in_university.html is little more than advertorial that again is only based on the school's opening. What else can I do to get those warnings to go away??

Cleveland: TV / Film Industry News
Luring more movies to Ohio: editorial Published: Sunday, November 27, 2011, 8:48 PM By The Plain Dealer Editorial Board Armed with film tax credits, the state of Ohio did boffo box office over the spring and summer -- with movies such as "Fun Size," "The Avengers," "I, Alex Cross" and "Boot Tracks." All were filmed mainly in Cleveland, generating thousands of local jobs. But Hollywood is fickle. It loved us until it ran through this year's available credits, then it left us for greener pastures, at least until next year. The $10 million Motion Picture Tax Credit the state allotted to seduce the silver screen industry in 2011 simply wasn't enough to carry through until the next funding cycle begins in July. http://www.cleveland.com/opinion/index.ssf/2011/11/luring_more_movies_to_ohio.html

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
I missed this article yesterday: University Circle forges ahead: editorial Published: Friday, November 25, 2011, 6:31 PM By The Plain Dealer Editorial Board This will be a busy weekend at University Circle as Clevelanders squeeze in a little culture between meals and show off the city's treasures to out-of-town guests. Next weekend brings the 18th annual Holiday CircleFest and the return of outdoor skating on Wade Oval. But as important as those events are in terms of driving visitors to the Circle's museums and restaurants and reinforcing its status as a key tourism destination, they only scratch the surface of the district's importance. The Circle's medical and educational institutions are huge and growing employers. According to University Circle Inc. President Chris Ronayne, the neighborhood has averaged 1,000 new jobs per year for the past five years, even in a massive recession. The clustered creativity at University Circle is helping to define -- and, in some cases, to invent -- the region's future economy. http://www.cleveland.com/opinion/index.ssf/2011/11/university_circle_forges_ahead.html

Cleveland: Downtown & Vicinity Residences Discussion
Great article! I'm going to post this here -- mods please move if there is a better place: With apartments full, developers look for new rental opportunities in downtown Cleveland Published: Saturday, November 26, 2011, 6:00 PM By Michelle Jarboe McFee, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio -- With apartments nearly full and waiting lists piling up, a sense of rental euphoria has fallen over downtown Cleveland. The downtown apartment market has tightened up dramatically, thanks to growing zest for urban living and a housing crash that helped make apartments the hottest commodity in the real estate business. The occupancy spike - to 98 percent or higher at some buildings - has developers looking for their next project and wondering whether Cleveland can create enough supply to meet renter demand. "Downtown needs more apartments, and it's just that simple," said Ralph McGreevy, executive vice president of the Northeast Ohio Apartment Association. http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2011/11/with_apartments_full_developer.html
