  2. More coverage from the PD: New aquarium taking shape: Attraction at Powerhouse in Flats to feature walk-through shark tank Published: Friday, November 25, 2011, 9:36 AM By James Ewinger, The Plain Dealer The finishing touches are weeks away, but the Greater Cleveland Aquarium appears on track to open Jan. 21. Built into a portion of the old Powerhouse in the Flats, the 40-tank aquarium is the handiwork of New Zealand-based Marinescape, which has more than 20 other such attractions around the globe and bills itself as the pioneer in walk-through aquariums. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/11/new_aquarium_taking_shape_attr.html
  3. ^^Thanks MayDay. 1) Here's the info on the Circle Walk addition if anyone has forgotten: http://www.cleveland.com/business/index.ssf/2010/12/university_circle_inc_aims_to.html Personally, I see this as another way of unifying University Circle, including more potential spinoff of other collaborations. The way-finding signs that went in last year have done wonders -- the Circle Walkw ill now be a great interactive tool for people to learn what exists in University Circle. 2) Regarding the UCI site, I did receive and email back and they made the requested fixes. BUT, I have found a few more factual errors and am compiling another list before I start bombarding them with more emails.

  6. Article from RustWire: ODOT to Cleveland: Drop Dead! 23 November 2011 There periodically arise big moments in urban development—moments that can affect a city’s life course. Here in Cleveland we are at one of those moments. The issue is whether or not we can finally break through the walls that have divided us from the Lake. http://rustwire.com/2011/11/23/odot-to-cleveland-drop-dead/
  7. Opening tonight: Opening in Ohio City . . . Energized restaurateur Sam McNulty's latest chapter unfolds today with the debut of the Ohio City Room in the basement of Market Garden Brewery & Distillery, next door to the West Side Market in Cleveland's Ohio City neighborhood. The expansive 110-seat space will serve as an extension of the restaurant and continue the theme upstairs -- what McNulty describes as "streamline modern meets log cabin." If it's anything like McNulty's other spots, it's bound to be a lot of fun. http://www.cleveland.com/taste/index.ssf/2011/11/chez_francois_leads_zagat_pack.html

Joyce Brabner, Pekar's widow, said in early November that $30,000 had to be raised by Dec. 5, for his tribute. The campaign, started online at Kickstarter, had already raised $30,787 through Monday with 669 backers, according to Carole Wallencheck, a reference associate with the library. With 13 days to go before the deadline, Wallencheck said any surplus donations will be given to the library to buy graphic novels. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/11/harvey_pekar_tribute_drive_sur.html
  12. From MedCity: Cleveland medical mart: MMPI’s minimum performance requirements Cleveland Medical Mart & Convention Center property developer MMPI must hit several minimum performance benchmarks as part of its agreement with Cuyahoga County to continue operating the facility once it opens. Those benchmarks pertain to the number of events, attendees, hotel room nights and occupancy of the medical mart, which is conceived as a collection of product showrooms for medical technology companies. http://www.medcitynews.com/2011/11/cleveland-medical-mart-mmpis-minimum-performance-requirements/

  14. Great show tonight--most of the performers would be in Opera Cleveland, All were from different cities, and came to Cleveland to perform Opera, but there are almost no organizations to perform with here (two said they moved here for Opera Cleveland). Only about 20 people attended, so it felt like a private showing. VERY COOL EXPERIENCE. I told them I will try and get the word out for next month. Next performances: Dec 12 Dec 19 (Christmas Show)
  15. ^ Sorry, I thought it was only a concert, which I haven't ever showcased, since I generally list the venue links at the bottom. Now that I see it's also a charity event, it's on the master list! Thanks for the help.
  16. Looks great! Thanks for the update.

  18. Cleveland International Film Festival receives $150,000 grant from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Published: Monday, November 21, 2011, 12:43 PM Updated: Monday, November 21, 2011, 1:05 PM Clint O'Connor, The Plain Dealer By Clint O'Connor, The Plain Dealer The Cleveland International Film Festival, already recognized nationally for its diversity, will increase its notoriety on that front thanks to a new $150,000 grant. The grant, from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, will run over three years beginning with next year's 36th festival, March 22 – April 1 at Tower City Cinemas. The Academy, best known for its annual Oscars presentation, already has an arrangement with the CIFF as a qualifying festival for its short films competition. The new grant will support the festival's "Focus on Filmmakers" program, with a spotlight on African American filmmakers in 2012, Latinos in 2013 and LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender) filmmakers in 2014, the same year Cleveland hosts the Gay Games. http://www.cleveland.com/moviebuff/index.ssf/2011/11/cleveland_international_film_f_12.html
  19. About 10 more updates -- don't miss out on any this good stuff.
  20. Oh it's on: Cleveland Mayor Jackson, council members blasting ODOT for handling of West Shoreway project Published: Monday, November 21, 2011, 12:06 AM Tom Breckenridge, The Plain Dealer By Tom Breckenridge, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Flashing rarely seen anger, Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson said he is outraged by the way ODOT is treating the city's long-held dream of converting the West Shoreway into a tree-lined boulevard. But an ODOT spokesman indicated the city's pursuit of more money for the project faces long odds -- especially when Cleveland wants to reduce speed "on a perfectly good roadway." They were shocked by the low score the city's $28.2 million request for the project's second phase has received in early reviews from state transportation officials. ODOT is too focused on moving traffic and undervalues the project's benefits to the community, city officials said. "I honestly believe they don't want it to go forward," Jackson said in an interview at The Plain Dealer. In fact, more state money will be hard to come by, given that ODOT has already committed $50 million to the shoreway project, ODOT spokesman Steve Faulkner said Friday afternoon. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/11/cleveland_mayor_jackson_counci.html

I want to give the message that clearly communicates we are committed to job growth. There are four components to that: attraction, retention, connections and communications."
