  1. I've heard plenty of rumblings that a coffee shop may go into the first floor of that tall abandoned building, if Dick Pace can finalize the financing to aquire it FYI.
  2. Another invite to everyone for the Case football game tomorrow...FREE BEER from 11:30 AM - 1 PM at the Jolly Scholar on campus before the game. WHEN: Oct 15, 2011 @ 1 PM WHAT: Case Western Reserve University vs Hiram College WHY: Alumni Weekend, Homecoming, supporting a winning team in the Cleveland city limits PREVIEW: http://athletics.case.edu/sports/fball/2011-12/releases/20111011x8idee
  3. 95% of them make ZERO sense! Side note: a majority of these donations are coming from outside the 216.
  4. Two things: 1) Some "skin" is going up today on the north side of Euclid on at least two different locations...only a few panels--but still this is UO ;) 2) I spoke to a Case alumnus last night and she told me she has actually been priced out of University Circle, specifically the Triangle Towers. She said they have raised her rent every year, and Downtown living is now cheaper for her. She moved from a two bedroom in the Triangle to a 2-3 Bedroom in Reserve Square for almost $400-500 less. The demand for apartments in UC is so pent up, the Triangle could keep raising their prices and remain at almost 100% occupancy....perfect timing for Uptown and Hazel Dr.

  6. I can't believe no one is talking about this...this is HUGE for Case Western Reserve, University Circle, and even Cleveland. Last night I was in attendance as President Snyder announced a crazy amount of donation news...$80 million was pledged yesterday ($50 million from Weatherhead's spouse, $20 million from an anonymous graduate) . Case Western had secretly launched a $1 BILLION fundraising campaign in 2008 (note when President Babs took over, the University was $20 million in debt) They are now over halfway there (over $663 million) and have the goal of reaching $1 Billion in donations by 2013. Case Western Reserve University announces $1 billion fundraising campaign Published: Thursday, October 13, 2011, 8:15 PM Karen Farkas, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio - Case Western Reserve University, celebrating the public kickoff of a $1 billion fundraising campaign on Thursday, announced a $50 million pledge, the largest in the history of the 185-year-old institution. The gift is from the Weatherhead Foundation, which was headed by longtime university supporter Albert J. Weatherhead III until his death last month. It is part of about $663 million that has been raised since the so-called "quiet" phase of the campaign began four years ago. University President Barbara R. Snyder also announced a $20 million commitment from a CWRU graduate who asked to remain anonymous. "We have a number of generous donors who believe in what we are doing at the university," she said in an interview Thursday. "It is due to the work of the faculty and the potential of the students." http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/10/case_western_reserve_universit_29.html Case Western Reserve University Launches $1 Billion Fundraising Campaign Oct. 13, 2011 CLEVELAND – President Barbara R. Snyder announced Thursday night $80 million in new commitments as part of the launch of “Forward Thinking: The Campaign for Case Western Reserve University.” The president shared news of the $1 billion fundraising initiative with more than 3,000 students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends as part of a campuswide celebration. “Case Western Reserve is an outstanding national research university poised to become even more extraordinary,” Snyder said. “Our alumni and friends recognize this institution’s remarkable potential and have invested generously in the programs, projects and people required for us to realize it.” http://case.edu/forwardthinking/campaign-news/10-13-2011.html
  7. "Canopy' will be the restaurant -- Mediterranean. The bar is currently open with the full menu available. http://www.freshwatercleveland.com/devnews/tudorarmsrestaurant021711.aspx Their hummus is the best I've had in Cleveland. The owner is Syrian I believe.
  8. From Freshwater: midtown tech park and health-tech corridor designed to stem outward flow of medical start-ups Lee Chilcote | Thursday, October 13, 2011 Every year, Cleveland’s growing healthcare economy nourishes dozens of successful start-up companies. Until recently, however, once these firms outgrew their space at the Cleveland Clinic or one of the city’s business incubators, they almost inevitably fled to the suburbs or moved out of the region. That’s because the city lacked the real estate product they needed: flexible, technology-ready office space with room to grow. But now, thanks to the recent completion of the 128,000-square-foot MidTown Tech Park on Euclid Avenue, start-ups that once left for the ‘burbs have good reason to stick around. Last month, Hemingway Development, which built the MidTown Tech Park on a former used car lot on a spec, inked a 10-year deal to lease 27,000 square feet to Cleveland HeartLab. The fast-growing start-up, which has swelled from eight to 80 employees in just two years, plans to move in next month. http://www.freshwatercleveland.com/features/healthtech101311.aspx
  9. Awesome! Thanks for the list! I definitely had lost track of all this.
  10. Great to hear! thanks Side note, two more storefronts are getting filled in at the Euclid Ave-Cornell intersection....they are...drumroll...Subway and Tropical Smoothie Cafe (Subway in Commedore Building and TSC next to qdoba)
  11. Cleveland Musuem of Art was featured on Travel Channel yesterday: http://www.travelchannel.com/Video/the-bombing-of-the-thinker-16310
  12. Ironic, I'm inside the KSL library right now looking out the window at the site...gonna be a nice game changer for Case Western. I'm a little bummed no bell tower. The sweeping views of the area would be incredible, not to mention the Downtown skyline is easy to see any above 4 stories in UC. I do like the footprint and overall interesting look. And having the eco-friendly look and functionally is a feather in the cap for the University.
  13. Mayday, great running into you at Presti's yesterday. Amazing shots!! I think I'm dizzy from the Cleveland tour!
  14. Sorry, I'm slacking like crazy! This weekend: http://unmiserablecleveland.com/awesomeness/2011/10/05/take-a-vacation-from-your-coat/ And the Case Western Reserve HOME FOOTBALL GAME tomorrow at 6 PM in University Circle ;) http://www.cleveland.com/pluto/blog/index.ssf/2011/10/finding_true_student-athletes.html
  15. Can someone in the know make some sort of Ohio City project break down... maybe kind of like how I did one for University Circle: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,2977.msg577274.html#msg577274 In the past three months, I have completely lost track of all the storefront renovations, additions, and proposals. Ohio City is advancing too quickly for me!
  16. Getting some love from Terry Pluto. Reminder, next home game is tomorrow at 6 PM. Finding true student-athletes at Case Western Reserve is easy ... unlike their classes Published: Friday, October 07, 2011, 4:25 AM Updated: Friday, October 07, 2011, 4:39 AM Terry Pluto, The Plain Dealer By Terry Pluto, The Plain Dealer I needed a break from the NCAA football scandal of the week, from all the talk of probations, suspensions and teams switching conferences. So I stopped by Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, where the team's top defensive player is studying to be a nurse and works in the summer restoring cars and motorcycles. And where the starting tight end has spent two summers working in the freezers at Heinen's warehouse and pursues a master's in business. The team's leading receiver is a chemical engineering major who interned for two years at NASA. http://www.cleveland.com/pluto/blog/index.ssf/2011/10/finding_true_student-athletes.html

  19. ^ So this is different from the New Circle Vistas?
  20. What do you mean? This link is Carnegie
  21. NEOBuckeye and Republicrats, very interesting-- thanks!
  22. Not sure if anyone knows more details, but this was on the Design Review District agenda two weeks ago: 8:00 EC2011-037: CWRU Triangle Tower 2 Retail Renovations © 11570 Euclid Avenue Gary Ogrocki, Dimit Architects Kevin Slesh, CWRU http://universitycircle.org/userfiles/file/Design%20District%20Agendas/ECDR%20Agenda%209_15_2011.pdf I assume it's for the proposed alleyway.
  23. Maybe Ohio City's momentum means spill over progress here too?? Condemned Franklin Castle is sold, may have new life yet Published: Sunday, October 02, 2011, 4:45 PM Updated: Sunday, October 02, 2011, 5:02 PM By Michael K. McIntyre The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The historic Franklin Castle in Ohio City has been haunted in recent years by unfulfilled dreams and unfinished renovation. An exorcism may be imminent. The Toronto-based owner of the property, Michelle Heimberger, sold the property last month to Oh Dear! Productions for $260,000. Cleveland City Councilman Joe Cimperman says the 19th century gothic-style castle would be divided into two residential units in the main house and another in the carriage house on the property. Cleveland architect Robert Maschke has been instrumental in the deal, he said, working with Heimberger and with the buyer, a European tapestry artist named Chiara Dona dalle Rose. http://www.cleveland.com/tipoff/index.ssf/2011/10/condemned_frankin_castle_is_so.html
