  1. People are smiling all over Case right now.
  2. Well there are still strong rumors of local celeb chefs opening up spots (on the southside of Euclid/alleyway). That could be a huge plus as well. And Constantino's Market.
  3. According to the construction workers, the B and N will be on the northside of Euclid... Other side of the street from CIA.
  4. If I'm missing anything else from the list, let me know.
  5. Thanks. I think I did the exact same exclusion last time I tried to add everything up. Also, I forgot my own recent announcement of the ThinkBox proposal, which has almost received its $10 million in funding needed for renovation. When I can get to a computer... no IPhone... I'll make the additions. EDIT: I've added it in as "proposed" since it hasn't actually received any funding. The Cedar-University Circle station on the other hand currently had $12.5 million in funding.

  8. Another small gain -- this time from Chardon, OH: Chardon law firm Thrasher, Dinsmore & Dolan opens downtown Cleveland office 4:30 am, September 15, 2011 Chardon law firm Thrasher, Dinsmore & Dolan has opened a downtown Cleveland office as part of an expansion during its 80th anniversary year. The office is at 1400 W. Sixth St., Suite 400. It's illustrative of what Thrasher Dinsmore calls “growth through difficult economic times,” as the firm has added eight attorneys in the last year. The additions have doubled the attorney count to 16. http://www.crainscleveland.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20110915/FREE/110919931#
  9. Walked past today the soon-to-be Hazel Drive apartments and they're well into prepping the site. Basically, it's all dirt...I'll update with some pics soon whenever it's not raining.
  10. One more from Freshwater: new vegan bakery rises in ohio city's ever-expanding market district Thursday, September 15, 2011 A new bakery on W. 25th Street is out to prove that dairy-free desserts can be just as addictive as the most decadent slice of chocolate cake -- while also cutting back on the calories, health risks, and guilt associated with many of our favorite vices. Just ask Margaret Bilyeau, owner of the newly opened Maggie's Vegan Bakery, who boasts of her vegan "chocolate" cupcakes with "cream cheese" icing: "You need to come try them -- they're wonderful." http://www.freshwatercleveland.com/devnews/maggiesveganbakery091511.aspx
  11. Nothing that we didn't know, but it looks like renovation is faster than new construction: in race to roll dice, cleveland casino a winner Thursday, September 15, 2011 In the race to roll the first set of dice in Ohio, it appears that Cleveland will be the big winner among the four new casinos. Cincinnati, according to this item in the Enquirer, likely will be the last. "Latest timetables show the Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati opening at Broadway Commons in spring 2013, a year after a Horseshoe Casino opens in Cleveland. Hollywood Casinos will open in Toledo in the first half of next year and in Columbus in the latter half." Delays caused by the recent state tax budget fight are to blame for pushing back the opening of the Cincinnati casino. Because the Cleveland casino is a renovation rather than new construction, the delays were less detrimental. http://www.freshwatercleveland.com/inthenews/clevelandcasino091511.aspx
  12. More progress: freshwater wind farm snags $500k grant from uncle sam Thursday, September 15, 2011 The push to plant the nation's first freshwater wind farm just offshore from Cleveland has just received some financial assistance from The Department of Energy. The grant is part of a $43 million package intended to speed technical innovations, lower costs, and shorten the timelines for wind energy deployment. Freshwater Wind, a private Cleveland-based developer selected by Lake Erie Energy Development Corporation (LEEDCo) to build the initial 20-30 megawatt offshore wind project, is the recipient. http://www.freshwatercleveland.com/inthenews/windgrant091511.aspx

  14. Ohio city couple transform rambling victorian into public concert venue Thursday, September 15, 2011 It might not occur to the average house-hunting couple to keep an eye out for living rooms that can fit a string band and 40 folding chairs, but then, Lynn Phares and Joel Elvery are far from average. Why else would the Cleveland couple decide to turn their massive Victorian home on W. 38th Street in Ohio City into a venue for house concerts six times a year? The Mechanic Street House Concerts, which launched in January, continues this fall with a diverse lineup that includes the Spares, Mike Mangione and the Union, Putnam Smith and local favorites Brent Kirby and Mike Uva and the Bad Eyes. Phares and Elvery, who moved here from Washington D.C. a few years ago after Elvery landed an academic post at the Levin College of Urban Affairs at Cleveland State University, got the idea from house concerts they'd attended in D.C. http://www.freshwatercleveland.com/devnews/houseconcerts091511.aspx
  15. Rolling LED displays...always a winner. I love how E.4th keeps spilling around the corner with lighting and activity.
  16. Great summary! I didn't realize so much was happening.
  17. Last reminder! I'll be at the game tonight. PM me if anyone else is interested.
  18. Previously from the Midtown Cleveland thread: Maybe this announcement should be moved to there as well.
  19. Agreed. Like the new MOCA, this design adds another showpiece corner intersection to University Circle.

  21. Case beat cross town rival John Carroll to start the season. This Saturday at 7 PM is the Home Opener vs Rochester, NY. I encourage everyone to come see and support another solid winning team in the Cleveland city limits! And Fireworks after the game. http://athletics.case.edu/sports/fball/2011-12/releases/201109061dm4rd TEAM UPDATE: Case has a D-II transfer QB, a stud Freshman running back from Miami, FL (averaged 10 yards a carry last week), and a returning veteran defense who scored 2 TD's on John Carroll.
  22. Actually, it looks the money may or may not go towards the building I was talking about! From Case: http://thedaily.case.edu/news/?p=2039 The university is in the process of exploring site locations for the Richey-Mixon Building—including the possibility of renovating an existing structure.
  23. Yep, the money will be going towards what I mentioned above. Nice find! It sounds like the money will help cover the program as well as the renovations. I talked to them about it on Friday, so I'm not sure if this $5 mil is being counted in the reported $6 mil or not.
  24. I believe so. It's located right at Cedar-UC rapid station.
