Cleveland: NASA Glenn Research Center News & Info
A sigh of relief for NEO... NASA Glenn fares well under President Obama's budget plan, other programs face cuts Published: Monday, February 14, 2011, 7:09 PM By Sabrina Eaton, The Plain Dealer WASHINGTON, D.C. - Cleveland's NASA Glenn Research Center emerged a winner in the $3.7 trillion budget plan that President Barack Obama unveiled on Monday. The proposal also cuts programs that fund social and community services and environmental cleanup efforts in Ohio. Glenn's 2012 budget would rise to $809 million under the plan, a boost of more than $100 million over its 2010 funding level. Much of the increase comes from NASA's decision to base two facets of its new Exploration Technology Development program at Glenn. A new solar electric mission to be headquartered at Glenn will develop systems that use light to propel space ships. A cryo fluid management effort will develop chemical propulsion systems to operate in the low temperature and gravity of deep space. http://www.cleveland.com/open/index.ssf/2011/02/nasa_glenn_fares_well_under_pr.html

Cleveland Monsters Discussion
The Monsters are in second place and hot, hot, hot! Lake Erie Monsters soar into second in AHL's North Division with 3-2 victory over Texas Stars Published: Monday, February 14, 2011, 9:15 PM By Dennis Manoloff, The Plain Dealer CLEVELAND, Ohio -- For the Lake Erie Monsters, being in second place never has felt so good. "I'm not surprised where we are," Monsters coach David Quinn said. "I love our team. The guys work hard. They have a great attitude and great locker room. I thought we had depth to withstand injuries and call-ups; so far, so good." http://www.cleveland.com/monsters/index.ssf/2011/02/lake_erie_monsters_defeat_texa_1.html

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
A new skatepark by the Cuyahoga? Cool: editorial Published: Tuesday, February 15, 2011, 4:21 AM By The Plain Dealer Editorial Board The skatepark plan makes sense, on a lot of levels, as a way to make the riverfront -- and downtown living -- more inviting. The park would be adjacent to the new Rivergate complex, soon to be home to local rowing clubs, kayak rentals and waterfront green space. A bit farther north, work is under way on the Flats East Bank project, which will include temporary park space and a permanent boardwalk. All three projects will open up the waterfront for residents and visitors. http://www.cleveland.com/opinion/index.ssf/2011/02/a_new_skatepark_by_the_cuyahog.html

Cleveland: SUPERMAN!
Cool news! Super-signs installed in Superman's old Glenville neighborhood CLEVELAND, Ohio -- After 73 years, comes a hint of recognition. Street signs bearing the familiar stylized "S" insignia for Superman and honorary street names "Joe Shuster Lane" and "Lois Lane" were installed recently by the city to honor the neighborhood where teenagers Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster created one of the best known mythical figures in the world, Superman. The first appearance of Superman was in"Action Comics" No. 1, released by DC Comics in 1938. A mint condition copy of that comic today is worth more than $1 million. These signs are at the intersection of Amor Avenue and Parkwood Drive, at the site of the former home of Superman artist Joe Shuster. Similar signs have been erected at East 105th Street and Kimberley Avenue, where Siegel lived and where the two did much of their work. http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2011/02/super-signs_installed_in_super.html

Cleveland: University Circle (General): Development and News
A little editorial shout out from the PD. Not as in detail like Urbanohio, but it's still a little blip nonetheless: Fertile ground at University Circle: editorial Published: Saturday, February 12, 2011, 4:30 AM By The Plain Dealer Editorial Board The daffodils won't begin pushing up for several weeks yet, but there's plenty sprouting out of the ground at University Circle already. Construction continues on the $150 million mixed-use Uptown project along Euclid Avenue east of Mayfield Road -- 102 apartments and more than 50,000 square feet of retail space should be ready to lease this summer. University Hospitals and the Cleveland Museum of Art continue their expansions. And this week, ground was broken for the Circle's next gem: the Museum of Contemporary Art, at the southeast corner of Mayfield and Euclid. http://www.cleveland.com/opinion/index.ssf/2011/02/fertile_ground_at_university_c.html

Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
FYI about the Cleveland Improv: Powerhouse of laughs: The Improv in the Powerhouse on the west bank of Cleveland's Flats goes dark after tonight's show with Loni Love, the comedian known to regular watchers of TV's "Chelsea Lately." The move makes way for a new aquarium. Improv General Manager Lee Herlands was first to take the stage when it opened Oct. 19, 1989. He'll be the last on the stage tonight, thanking patrons for 22 years of laughter. The Improv will re-open across the parking lot, next to Shooter's, Feb. 22. http://www.cleveland.com/tipoff/index.ssf/2011/02/clevelands_supercop_james_simo.html

^This is another project that is quieting churning about which have have huge positive implications down the road.
-
Cleveland: Flats Developments (Non-Stonebridge or FEB)
To me, this is a no brainer-- an improvement project that is both an entertainment option and a tourist draw... all for less than $1 million. Not to mention, this small skatepark could also be a catalyst for even more development down by the river.

Cleveland: University Circle News (Non-Construction)
This is technically "construction," but FYI: Adelbert Road To Be Closed for Water Project Effective Monday, Feb. 14, Adelbert Road will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic just south of Euclid Avenue as part of a major infrastructure project for the area. In addition, the Binary Walkway will reopen to pedestrians on that day. Pedestrians may use the Binary Walkway to access buildings along Adelbert Road that are south of the closure. As a result of the road closure, vehicle traffic from Euclid Avenue will not be able to access Adelbert Road directly. Similarly, vehicles on Adelbert will not be able to access Euclid directly. The construction is expected to last about four weeks. http://blog.case.edu/case-news/2011/02/11/adelbert_road_to_be_closed_for_water_project
